See mines at that tricky stage where it’s still dark when I leave but sunny before I arrive which always leaves me in a quandary about glasses as it’s hard to see into the low level sun but my tinted always seem to dark for the dark but.

I had never got a tubeless ready tyre to seat with my track pump and now have a compressor, however I recently bought some Huchinson Toro tubeless ready tyres (a steal at £10.99 each) and they are what you would call a tight fit but the seated easily with the track pump. I have struggled getting normal tyres to seat some times but with tubeless ready they do go with out resorting to lube. This is on proper mavic ust rims.

Having been a first on the scene to a off set front crash between a new scoda octavia (or at least new in 2013) and a modus. The renault had been completely spun around but the doors still opened which made getting the driver out easliy. The skoda however you couldn’t open the drivers door and the driver had to be taken over the front seats in to the rear (the passenger door was hard up against the bank). We had to get him out as the engine on the modus had caught fire and the brigade, whilst on there way we’re going to be 20 minutes due to the location. Both drivers only suffered minor injuries which wouldn’t have been the case of the cars were older.

Our renault has one and that’s an 06 car. It is good espcially as the air on is not working at the mo so this also de-mists the screen. I wish the Volvo had it but the car desgin is pre ford days. I use luke warm water and had no problems. I don’t use enough to leave large puddles that could re crease but as the cars are on my drive I aslo don’t care if it does. Using water means the windows are cleared straight away with non of the crap that goes with de-icers also it saves a bit on screen was a if the windscreen is dirty.

The Volvo d5 engine is good for really big miles. Our xc90 is on 193k and there are plenty out there with equally high. Yes things wear out and need replacing but a lot can be done at home if your competent with a set of spanners and there are plenty of specialists out there who can work on them. The v70 is not all a ford in drag even less so if you avoid the PSA diesel engines. The s40\v50’s are based heavily on the focus. The Volvo forum is a great resource as well as a friendly place.

Do they suffer the same problem the laguna dash does in that it can be damaged by an electric spike and only work I kph?
I currently have a vel satis that has done 110k. Bought for £450 and it had new tyres on it that cost that much. I like French cars and all the cars I have had have been French except for the xc90 we have. I have taken most of them to beyond 150k with little problem part from the normal. They are to me such a nicer place to be than the boring interior of the vag group (my mother in law has had a few of them).

Espcially as that bit of road is a 3 lane dual carriage way and has no street furniture near the edge of the road and it’s not like the guy wouldn’t know the road as he lives locally.

owenfackrell – I would be interested if you are close by. I’m in Scottish Borders.
Out of interest, did you cut down the legs? The IKEA site says that the bed needs a min ceiling height of 270cm, so I’d probably need to cut about 30cm off the legs as the bedroom ceiling is only 240cm

Unfortunatley I’m in the south of England. We didn’t cut the legs down and out ceiling is about. 2.40 I have heard of others who cut some o the legs and there is the length there to do that.

Fair enough. It’s a bit worrying when I get full-beamed when using just a 300 lumen torch light but if you lean the bike up with the light on, crouch 30yds in front at driver height, it’s quite dazzling. As GrahamS said about reflectives recently, it’s a useful thing to do.

This is why the light on my bike is angled down and has the top half tapped over to block it. The one on my helmet is angled so that in my normal head position it points down in front of me but just by lifting my head I can see right down the road. Most of my commute is on unlit roads and half of that through the new forest so I would really like to see the animals before I come across them.

I apparently have to much on my phone as with 1.5gb free I need a total of 3.5. According to the phone it only has 13.6 for data as the rest is taken up. If I reduce it by a further 3.5 I end up with 10 which is crap. Is this a way to try and get us to only get the larger capacity ones?

What ever changes they did in Friday have really speed there boat up. I think they spent most I their development time on the foiling side of things and not the up wind. It would be interesting to see another lighter wind race to see if they are still competitive up wind as it was in the lighter winds they weren’t going as well.
I to cant ne drop as I don’t race just sail for fun though I did see sir Ben on this years round the island race.

Dibbs they were the smaller ac45’s rather than these. They are 45 odd foot wide. I would hate to be on the up side when they almost went over. I sail a cat and know how far they can go before they do go over and watched that with my breath held thinking that’s it for them.

I have fitted the mud lover versions of these a few times. if you cut the liner just loger than the last ferrel is seems that it is tight enough fit to the cable to stop any thing getting in to it. The liner doesn’t move just the inner. They work really well and the only reason i have had to change them is either a change of frame or i have had to repalce the shifters and mech.

I lent a tube to some guys at afan once. They were coming down Skyline as i was going up whites. I sadi they could keep it as i normally carry 3 (tubless wheels) but they asked what car i was in and i found it on the roof when i got back. I have also stopped to help people in the New Forest who had all the kit but the pump they had was set for the wrong valve type. I would stop and ask anyone who looked like they had trouble of any kid regardless of the transport type. If you were pushing and looked ok at a glance i would have at least said hello.

Can’t remember where, but I saw a photo of a bolt through road fork/hub combo a few days ago.
it was a specialized prototype running discs, i can’t find the story though

    edit: found it

edit 2: nope it wasn’t that one

It was on a giant cc bike wasn’t it?

ETNZ seem to have the foiling down better than Oracle who always looks bow down to me and twisting in the frame.
They have got the ACWS 45’s foiling now as well, this may be more affordable.

First off i have skipped to the end after page 3.
I cam to the following conclusion the other day. people don’t like anyone getting passed them be it overtake in a car or filter on a bike (either sort) as they are seen as jumping the que which just isn’t british, even if the person going past isn’t having any effect on the que in question.

You need proper 4 wheel tracking done if you take off a wishbone which will sort the camber, castor and toe in/out..

Whils’t that’s a perfeclty valid point if the OP was driving a fully rose jointed sports car with independant double wishbones all round, and one the salesman for the 4 wheel alignment purveyor probably drilled into you. but he’s driving a Volvo, not a Westfield. How exactly do you intend on adjusting any of that beyond the tracking on a McPherson strut?

The only adjustable thing on 99.9% of cars is the toe in/out on the front, everything else is as it left the factory. The most they can do is tell you that it’s out of alignment and leave you to figure out whether thats from worn bushes or a crash.

The XC90 does have alround 4 wheel independant suspession and is well know for needing 4 wheel alignment.

I have also been told that it easier and cheaper to just replace the wishbone at some thing like £130 each for proper volvo ones and that it is really hard to get the old bushes out let alone the new ones in (ie needs a lot of force and most garages don’t have presses that go high enough).

I thought that the West Quay Retail car park was concil owned but run by some one else. For what its worth if shopping in Ikea you are better off parking in their car park as you can get the ticket validated and park for free.

What we found to be the biggest problem is not the width of the car but getting to each of the belt buckles as the biggest problem. I would also recomend the xc90 as it by far and away the best family car out there.

I haven’t had a drink for 19 odd years now. I don’t like the taste of alcohol and stopped drinking it when i was 17 (so when most were just getting started). I discovered that i could have more fun sober and it ment that I never had to worry about getting home. It also meens that you can remmeber all the embarassing things that others have done.

I had my first ride up there in a few good months and i like the extra distance thats been added and you can even run it with both your forks and rear shock locked out. It is more fun if you do turn the lock out off mind. Good work by all i just wih i had the free time to come and help but even getting a ride in is a bit hit and miss. For whats its worth i run sepc ‘the captian’ tyres all year round and find they perform well iin most situations even QE park in the wet.

We had an xc90 (and still would if circumstances were different) and as a family car they are great. They are big but no longer than the s80/v70 as they share the wheel plan. they are not fast cars but the engine was easily up to the task of carting the car around. Ours was an 04 model so it had the 163bhp engine with the 5 speed auto. the newer ones have 185bhp, but also have a particult filter and a 6 speed auto box. The latest ones now have 200bhp.

Mine some times does this. I find that you can often get them undone by holding the main valve body with the key for tightening it and using a pair of pliers on the end. I have found the best way of stopping it is to give the valve a press to release a small amount of air before doing it back up. It also helps to rotate your wheel so that the valve is in the 9 or 3 o’clock position before doing this.

For us it has always been a fine line between earning enough to make it worth while and our family life so much so that my wife found it best to work a almost term time only contract and look after the kids in the holidays, out of term time is a real cost once they go to school. She likes to go to work so that it excercise here mental facilites and gives her adults to talk to. We are lucky in that our child minder is very flexable and offers discount for sibilings plus the nursary we use is run by the trust i work for and offers fee direct which works the same way as the vouchers but has no upper limit.
The nursary costs £4:05 per hour and they open 07:00 until 18:30 which is very good. Our childminder charges £3:50 for the first and £3:00 for the next. This in the Southampton area.

I have Look Keo Easy pedals and the grey cleats. The cleats will wear very fast if you walk in them at all and as i use mine for my commute i have a pair of cleat covers that are rubber and fit over them. They make walking easier and less slippy plus the only cost £8 or so so are cheap when they do wear out. The Keo easy’s were cheap to buy and came with cleats. The cleats seem to be wearing slowly from the pedal and they have coloured bits on them that indicate when to replace them. It will take a bit more pactice to get in them than SPD’s as its a slightly different way of doing it as they are single sided ( i assume this is also the case for the SPD-R’s)
