The old Winchester hill is great when going down it and i have managed to get up it but only by getting the turn at the bottom right. The rest of the bit that can get boggy is also good going down not so up.

Most women first experience some kind of sexual assault (doesn’t have to be physical to count) before they get to secondary school. Men don’t.
Most of the women i know its the harassment or unwanted attention that they are avoiding, most men don’t even see this as a problem or worse as something real.

I have noticed more and more cars either beeping or actually pulling off when people are still crossing under a flashing crossing light.

At first reading the report i thought it over the top but then after more reading i can see why the judge has gone for a split fault though i would have gone a nit more for the ped as they were on there phone and not aware of the surroundings

I’m not sure you can expect the unexpected, the clue is in the name is it not.

I take a clean pair of trousers once a week and clean shirt, pants and socks on a daily basis. I’m lucking in that i have a full size locker to use so shoes are left here permanently along with shower stuff. After having had the days where you have forgotten something i now leave everything at work and swap over in my bag the things from the day/week before in the morning. I also put my clothes inside a plastic bag in side my bag for a couple of reasons. One it means that if the bag leaks or any of my lunch does then the clothes should be ok also it keeps my shirts and trousers from getting creased.

I never used to stretch or really worry about it until i started doing Taekwondo where i very quickly realised just how tight my hamstring and Achilles had got as i could nearly reach my ankles let alone my feet. As flexibility is very important in Taekwondo i started stretching every day and after a year not only could i reach me feet i am almost able to get my chest to my knees. Other areas have further work to get them where I want them though.
We always stretch when warming up at Taekwondo but sometimes miss the stretch at the end and I feel that when we don’t but its more stiffness rather than DOMS.

How do you work out what size backer rod for different width tyres. I want to fit some to my commuter which has 28mm tyres which are already tulles but due to the state of some of the roads I have to go down I can feel the rim get hit regularly also which width would I go for for 2.35 tyres 40 or 50?

When out on Saturday i saw a group out riding and they were on a mix of normal and ebikes. They guys on the ebikes were all older, they looked to be either at or over retirement age where as the others were more like in there 50’s (I’m in my 40’s). Thye all seemed to be have a great time out and to me that is the beauty of ebikes in that they allow people to get out and enjoy themselves when normally they would have struggled and not bothered.

If you like the flat bars then i would say take a look at the Giant Fastroad advanced as it is a carbon frame with tubeless wheels and the current ones have bolt through wheels as well. I have an older one and the carbon frame coupled with the dfuse seat post makes it very comfortable to ride I use mine mainly for commuting everyday with the odd longer trip.

17.5 miles each way it’s pretty flat and either on quite roads or cycle paths. I do it everyday all year round. In fact in the summer I often take the MTB and it goes up to more like 30-35 miles home as i go the long way through the forest.
I’m lucky to have secure, covered cycle storage and showers with lockers to use.
It’s often not that nic in winter but the right clothes make a huge difference, that and slipping past all the cars stuck in queues and road works.

I use an osprey escapist 25 and carry my laptop to and from work once a week. The laptop fits in the main pocket fine with clothes in the lower one plus space for food. There are also useful pockets on the waist strap and a pocket on the main body that i keep spares and tools in. It is very stable and i find it comfortable. The rain cover does a great job of keeping it dry, it has only leaked once and to be fair to the cover the conditions were horrendous. The water got in to the bottom of the rain cover and slowly soaked up into the bottom pocket but i have always carried my clothes in a plastic bag as i find it keeps everything neater, so they stayed dry.

I haven’t tried the red filter but I was recently bought some Encroma glasses and for somethings they make a huge difference. They are not cheap mind. The biggest one for me so far has been with skittles and how different the green and orange ones are as normally I struggle to tell the difference.

The only way I can do it is to try and see it flick from one to the other or ask my wife which colour it is.

I use both and there are times that it hows on Strava before Connect. Never had a problem with it syncing. Leave the Connect app open and it syncs as soon as you save the activity

An ambulance was called for me last year. A fast response paramedic turned up first but that took almost an hour and he was surprised that the ambulance wasn’t there. That ambulance turned up over half an hour later. When chatting with the paramedic in the back of the ambulance he was telling me that they had been all over the place that day. I was picked up outside of Beaulieu and they were the other side of Burley when they got the call to come to me. They had been in Newbury earlier that day and based in Bournemouth.
I did require an ambulance as i had an unstable fracture and was lying in the middle of the road.
They are hobbribly stretched and were are just about to make it harder for people to come here and fill the roles.

I fitted a set of Hutchinson Fusion 5 all seasons at Christmas. They have been great so far even on the icy mornings we have had this week. I have only done a few hundred miles on them so can’t comment on wear. Other than they don’t seem to have. They were easy to fit and went up easy but i do have a compressor which makes life very easy.

Nasher you need to like their facebook page as they often put up videos showing more of the resto work.
I whatched that one first time round and it was a very emotional episode but handled very well.

I have a 2005 XC90 which is currently on 244k miles. I’m still getting 38-40 mpg from mixed driving (goes up on a long run), though mine is a manual. The older D5 engine only has 163 bhp but its also only euro 3 so no dpf to worry about. They really are huge inside and you even get a reasonable size boot with all seats in use.
Down sides are they are a heavy car and as such are hard on components which are not always the cheapest to replace. I do all my own work which saves a fair bit.
The XC90 is based on the P2 chassis of the older V70 where as the XC60 is from the newer Ford era one. The XC90 never got the 205 twin turbo D5 as it didn’t fit in the engine bay whilst the xc60 did.

Matt you need to go onto the Volvo Forum as its a mine of useful information. http://www.volvoforum.org.uk

Make sure that you get the aux belt and tensioner done at the same time.

Last time i bought a tensioner from Volvo it was an INA one in a Volvo box.

I have both of those bags. I use the Osprey one for work as i also carry food with me.

They are both good bags but for off road the parachute type harnes is very stable compared to the conventional type on the ospreys.

Both bags have rain covers which work as well as pockets on the waist straps, which are more useful than you may realise especially for keys.

Personally i would go for the Osprey as its a better commuting bag and the extra room is useful.

I always liked the ones with Edd in, slightly less so when they moved over the pond. However the new ones gloss over an awful lot of doing things and seem to have a massive budget each episode compared to the original premise.

I do like car SOS as an alternative even if there is a fair bit of scripted jinks in it.

My wife actually runs a Sling Library as well as being a trained consultant so we have lots of different ones to use.

When our youngest (now 2 3/4) was first born we used what is know as a stretchy wrap which is basically a large piece of material that you wrap around yourself and then insert the baby. This is very good as it keeps the baby close and helps regulate their body temp. As she got bigger we used other carriers that were mainly what they call buckle carriers in that they clip together with buckles/clips and these can be used both front and back. I can still carry her on my front now which she enjoys as there is face to face contact but she also enjoys going on my back.

Last October I spent some time in th lakes walking with my daughter in the front carrier which was great as we could talk easily.

Carrying like this is very good for both baby and parent as it helps form bonds that you don’t get with a buggy.

There are many other benefits to using slings/carriers however as with all these things there are those that fell you should do things only a certain way but they tend to be easy to avoid by just not going to those forums/chats

I have a carbon framed flat bared road bike that I ride to work ( a Giant Fastroad Comax) and last January I had an off where the bars spun round and hit the top tube or at least the shifter did. This resulted in it chipping the paint off but didn’t damage the top tube. It was quite a violent off for the road as I also snapped both the bones in my ankle.

We have one of these for at home.

We also use them at our club and they seem to last well though the club ones are starting to get floppy from use.

Love the Avantime. It was so bonkers, only the French would take a people carrier and stick a 2 door coupe body on it.

We had a same vintage VelSatis for a while. It was a very comfortable car to drive but the 100 litre fuel tank was expensive to fill from empty and in fact a couple of times I had to stop pay and then restart as I had hit the £99 limit.

The sas on the xc90 isn’t coded but they did change the around the 2005 model year and it became part of the clock spring. This is actually straight forward to replace nad the longest part is leaving the battery disconnected before removing it.

I run an XC90 which is currently on 240k miles. The p2 generation of volvos are very well built. I also do all the work on mine myself so that does save quite a bit. It is worth investing in VIDA and a DICE unit which is the Volvo diagnostics software and interface as it can help solve lots of these problems. I paid £100 ish for mine and it soon pays for its self.

its also worth going on volvoforums.co.uk as its a mine of information on these cars.

I had an odd one riding to work a few weeks back. I road i go down often has lorries parked on one side of it, other side to me. I was just riding along and was just getting to the parked lorry when i saw that there was a car coming the either way and not slowing for the obstruction, the driver must have suddenly ralised that i was there and did a hard stop pulling in behind the lorry. I went to raise my hand as a jester of thanks when the female drive stuck her middle finger up at me. No idea why.

You really need to get the codes read on Vida (which is the Volvo software) as it could be anything to do with the breaking system including the abs and traction control.

Babies and toddlers don’t really get into a sleep pattern, like an adult until they are about school age.

They tend to sleep in short cycles and will happily wake in the middle of the night for a few or more hours. Their melatonin production is not set up right when they are born and takes a while hence the school age.

You also have to remember that one persons all night will be from 11 to 5 where as another persons is 7 till 7

Thanks. I will look into the areas you have suggested for parking. If I went the Gosport route it would be parking right out and riding in. What’s the tactic like getting into Drayton/Farlington area if I come over portsdown hill.

    owenfackrell

Going to Gosport is a possibility. I need to be in before 8:30 and won’t be finished until 18:00 so that might make a difference to the density of traffic. I plan to try it out before starting as I should have a week off between jobs.

I drove a 125 version from Southampton to Yorkshire and back. I didn’t know it was a 1.0 till I got to Yorkshire as it was more than powerful and torquey enough. Not to sure what it would be like fully loaded though. The only real down side was the size of the tank which is really small I got just over 400 miles to it but it is something like 45 litres of so.
