Trekster I use that forum and whilst i agree that they are not the most reliable of cars they problems are fairly easy to fix in general as they are known about. it is when you get a car that doesn't have a lot of problems and it brakes that it gets really expensive (that and if you let a garge do all the work). I have had to change the window regulator on my laguna and it only cost me £45 where as i know of people who have spent a good few hunded to do the same by paying someone else to do it.

To me th epoint of have tyres that grip well and have hight limits is so that in the event of needing to avoid anything i have cofidance in my tyres.

I always resaerch my tyres before i buy them and base my purchase on what the manufacure fits and what is rated by the magazine test (mainly auto express) as they can tset them properly.

It is easy to spin a fwd car when hitting anything slippery as the back of th ecar is light and can just step out. I think that the skid pan should be part of the driver training just as it is in scandinavian countries.

The only thing i would add is that the 2.2 dci is a cheaper engine to both run and tax with out any real lose in performance (though it is nice to have a v6 ;))

Hora the bigest problem i have seen is that people don't let the car idle before turning it off which is even worse when you see them reving it as they are parking it. This doesn't give the turbo a chance to stop before the oil to the bearings is cut off. Mind you you don't need to use the throtal to monover a diesel.

I have the 2 bliss sworks versions in both 2.0 and 2.2 sizes. I run the 2.2 tubeless on my full sus on mavic ust rims and the others on my HT but with tubes for now.
I find them a good all year round option. They are not as fast as a hard pack type tyre but then they are more than ok in the mud and clear well.
The sizing does come up fairly large, the 2.0 have replaced a pair of conti 2.2 race kings and they are slightly wider than they were.
I have found mine easy to get to work tubelessly on the mavic rims but have yet to try the getto way (which is what i want to do on the HT).
Just to add i have used mine a lot here on the southdowns/new forest/salisbury plains as well as trips to afan and the peak district.

You are obsessed with the fat lady.

It does have some of the best/cheesyist lines in it.

Intresting topic that one hora. It does confirm what i have witnesed that people don,t know how to drive a turbo powered car and just drive them like a normal petrol.

i went to the south of france with 2 kids( one 5 year old and one 9 month old) and 1 bike plus luggage and nappies and even managed to get the bike inside of a laguna estate. it sounds like your wife has to much luggage

Halogens are going to be a round for a while as they are relativly efficent. Incadesent bulbs are being phased out over the next couple of years altogether.

What stuff were you taking to make a 406 boot to small? MPV's have even less space than an estate unless you are carrying bulck items.

The bike i cliamed for was a custom built (mainly from spares) and they just asked me for a list of the parts fitted and made me an offer based on that it was worth about £800 from memory and they had no problem with the cliam they didn't even ask for any proof of what was on the bike.

I have the aa and have had to cliam for a bike which was easy. Like you i have a couple of bikes under the 1.5k limit and one over.

As for firmer tyres under the same pressure.. I don't know, doesn't sound right. Were you using different tyres?

Also agree as i find it the other way round.
I am just about to try a getto conversion on them HT as i dislike the feel (and getting punctures) of a tube tyre now as i have been running tubeless on my FS for over 2 years.

    & you are narrow-minded & resistant to/scared of change.

Things move on… Maybe you should too?

The thing is , chap, I'd bet that the vast majority of STWers have or have had FS & HT MTBs and can see the advantages of both, even if they prefer one or the other (I have both, I use whatever suits)

So, you're just never gonna get anywhere with this argument in a millon years……

In 2007, cyclist Peter Messen – who killed a pedestrian while riding on a pavement in Cornwall at 25mph – escaped with 300 hours of community service.

    Thats wrong.

Wasn't he that person who was mentally handicaped and deam as not fully understanding his actions?

The best way is to go to a lbs and try them on for size and fit.
If it fits you i can recommend the specalized one thats around that price (can't remmember its name.)

this point about injuries is a nonsense.

When has anyone heard of similar injuries being caused by spokes? Never, because riders do not fall into each others wheels.
I agree with this also there is a chainset spinning round that has a nice sharp toothed edge to it and that isn't seen as a problem and don't tell me that the riders leg protects others from it as that would only be true for part of the rotation.

If (when) they bring road racing disc will they be carbon so that they can be moulded as one with the hub?
Aren't disc currently not allowed in top end cyclo cross? when they allow this i recon that the road can't be far behind.

I have insurance for when i am cycling through the CTC, which also covers my daughter when in her trailer in the event of me having an accident (my fault) and her getting hurt etc..
I think that a lot of the problem on our roads is the "i must get past this…." and the "i need to be there" mentallity that goes on.

I would like a road bike with discs. On a side note with regard the drop outs the ones on my focus hard tail both (ie forks and frame) face forward diagonally, it actually makes getting the rear wheel in eaiser.

Continuing the thread hijack – I can't believe someone hasn't run into the back of me already as I have a habit of stopping for amber lights, something I haven't noticed anyone else doing. The occasions where I've judged there's not enough time to stop before the line and carry on I get a pang of guilt until a quick mirror check reveals the car behind me (and quite often the one behind that too) doesn't seem quite so bothered about amber lights.

+1 and the same goes for when it turns red just after you have crossed the line.

I have a triple as i don't like the jump with a compact and as i also pull a trailer with my road bike i like having the lower gears. Mine is 52-40-30 with a 12-26 cassette.

You can use most 6 bolt ones. i have tried Hope floating ones and aztec ones but prefer the feel of the xt 6 bolt ones. (this is xt brakes but the calipers the same ish).

Which is exactly the attitude I normally take to temporary roadworks lights

You're allowed to jump temporary lights (even in a car) provided that you can see that the way is clear.
I've gone through loads, both on a bike and in a car (after checking that it is safe to do so obviously!)

Are you? got a link to this? (not that i don't belive you i just wish to see it writen down fo rpeace of mind.)

I will be trying the kevlar ones for my xt brakes when i need a new pair next as i find the sintered ones to hard when it is anything remotly dry though they seem alright on my avids so far.

I do actually regularly jump a red light myself – but whilst that might still give the wrong impression, it is totally legal.

How is it legal? you can get off and walk across but that isn't jumping them.

I see they are pulling the lience one over there forgetting that a car is extremly dangoures in the worng hands where as a bike can't do that much damge if you don't know how to ride it.
