The Disco 3 is a little out of our price range for the millage we would like. We are only looking at the D5's due to fuel costs.

I have a nice dark commute and use a cateye abs 20n as my main light angled to light up th eground ruffly where my car lights do. I haven't had any problems with it at the moment but then its not that bright. There is a strech of road through the forest wich is closed to motor traffic at the moment and as such i tend to turn my front lights off and enjoy the darkness, the other day there were a group of roadies coming the other way with their lights on and they were what i would call blinding in fact at first i thought that they were a couple of slow moving cars. I wouldn't want to be driving in rain and come across them as stated above it makes judging how far away they are very hard. I can understand super bright lights for technical bits or under the trees, there are 2 short bits on my commute where i would like more light, but for the most time getting noticed is not a problem and you don't need 2000 lumens of power just like in the car you don't need rally night lights.

If you have to return it then he has to pay the return postage on it as hes mis described it as in perfect working order which i would read as has no marks other wise you would mention them.

Never had much luck with brake pad longevity – it's OK but I still go through them at a fair rate.

Try the superstar sintered ones. I found mine to hard for the summer but they show no signs of wear in teh wet wether yet (including a wet afan ride and a very wet test vally tour).

So its perfectly ok to refuse to sit in the seat hes just sat on and to run away,GIGGLING LIKE CHILDREN.

You didn't really watch did you? At no point did they say he cme from sheffield that was just before they talked to him they were acting the way they did as he came accros as creepy and admitted to fizzing sensations.

Like others have said. Where is the homophobic parts? i would lean away from a women if she said she had a fizzing feeling there as well as not wanting to sit in the seat in the same way they did. I though that it was all just crude willy type jokes and set up but funny never the less.

They wern't discussing sheffield at that point but a fizzing feel just behind your penis.

My theory is that when you bend a 'flexy' crank at the start of the power stroke, you get that power back when it springs back at the end of the power stroke

I could see this if you were twisting the shaft as it would pull the chian but side ways flex doesn't help drive the chain and just absorbes energy.

would anybody really notice the added stiffness in the BB/cranks?

I did when i swaped my square taper road chainset to a GPX one. You could see the chain rings flex when pedaling and more often than not here it as well.
I have a Hone chainset that is 5 years old has been on and off a fair few times (even swaping frames) and the splines on that are as good as new.

Moses. It is a proven fact that we are coming to the end of an ice age and also that the dinosars lived on antartic which had forset in the middle of it. It is the fact that we have accelerated this change and what the planet does about it that is the concern.

Strictly speaking retor HIDs are illegal as to get round uk law HIDs have to conform with European law which is that they have to have headlight washers and self level all to avoid blinding people.
The ones i hate are those stupid blue effect bulbs that are ment to fool you into think that they have hids with projector style lights.
My car has HIDs and i like the colour of the light compared with the yellow of halogens which becomes really obvious when you drive with them for a while.

Twice for me (sort of) the first time i was about 13 and doing a paper round in the dark and went round a courner straight in to the front of a parked van Got off with nothing worse than a dented pride. The second time was a few years ago when riding down a hill an old lady pulled out of a side road realised she couldn't get past the parked cars next to the junction, stopped and i couldn't. that left a dent in her boot and a dead leg for me with a lump on the top of my calf (which is still there). She tried to tell me it was my fault as i lay in the road. I pointed out that she had pulled out in front of me and i couldn't stop in time at which point she said i should get better brakes (I had discs and slick tyres and it was dry) and drove off with that comment.

I had to bring the car this morning as i can't risk my daughters saftey in the trailer in these winds plus when a moderate wind hits you with the trailer on the back its a bit like you have just run into a wall i hate to think what it would be like today.

    Couple of questions on these.
Is there any difference between the 2 on the website other than the head strap?
Does any one use theres for dark commutes?

It comes down to V=I*R but yes 240 "could" kill you. the only voltage considers safe is 50v(ac) or bellow which is know as SELV (Seperate Extra Low Voltage).
With AC you will normally get through away from it/let go of what is giving you the shock with DC (ie batteries above 120v) will leave you holding on to what has shocked you.

On the commute from my old house i didn't use any cycle paths as they made you give way at all junctions and even some of the private drive ways which means that you can't get into any kind of rhythm and the road is a 2 lane one that the traffic doesn't move that fast on. On my new route there are a couple of paths that i use that are fine in that you can ride them with out having to stop and they keep you off fast moving busy roads so do use them. the rest of the time i ride on the road which is the right place for a bike.

We need to promote tolerance and respect, not segregation. The reason we have so little respect is because car-only drivers think we are not traffic and should be out of their way on our own little lanes.

I also use a Tesco torch as my back up light (mainly commuting) and have got it on my helmet where is is good aslong as its not raining or misty. There is a tip in this months MBR that shows how to make a glow ring for torch type lights.

the only downside with the 170 is it's a 2.0 which uses all the fancy high pressure injector stuff, which are VERY expensive when they go wrong. The 1.9 uses a relatively low pressure system, which as mentioned above, is very reliable.

Thats not true. The 1.9's use a multi pump system with one pump for each cylinder and are higher pressure than a common rail systems they allow for more tunability and more bhp than a common rail but they are noisier.

Oh and i have found that the pad cleance on my XT servowaves to be more than the Juicy's they replaced.

    owenfackrell
    Free Member

Then a wet ride round Mam Tor destroyed the rest of the pads and half the backing plate in two hours. And for most of that ride they were rubbing like cuss.

I had this last year doing the test valley hot challange a set of well used but not really worn pads disappeared in less than 35k.

Shimano pads are generally organic ones. My tip would be to get some (Wait for it…) Superstar sintered pads. IMO when I had my XTs on a VERY VERY wet TransWales that they are better then the Shimano pads in every way for about 1/4 of the price

I would also recomend these for winter. I found them to hard for summer/dry use as they set up vibrations throught the frame and forks but after a wet ride at afan recently the rear looked the same at hte end as it did at the start.
I am about to order some for my tektro brake on my HT before the hampshire grit eats them.

I have a double and bash on my FS (36t) and thats mainly to stop the chain falling/bouncing off the ring and to stop the apperance of any more scars on the inside of my right leg. I still have a triple on the HT though and wouldn't want a bash on there but i use my bikes for different riding.

We got one with our second due to major complications with our first where we ended up going in for herat/movment checks every other day which went on for 2 months along with scans every week as she wasn't growing.
My wife wanted one for reasurance the second time as the first time she didn't get many movements anywayand what she did were small. We only got the growth problems picked up when she hadn't felt anything allday. They are hard to use and can cause panic but we had got it down to a fine art after doing it for so long with the first.

In a nursery they are not class sizes as it is not a school. they have to have a ratio of carers (not teachers) to children and that depneds on there age.

The child/staff ratios for different age groups are as follows:

children under two: 3:1. Provision will be made for extra staff if necessary, such as when there are a lot of younger babies on the premises, when it might be necessary to have a ratio of 2:1
    two-year-olds: 4:1
    three- to seven-year-olds: 8:1

If you are looking at the vw/seat/ford proper 7 seaters what about the 807/C8/fiat as they seem to get good reivews and use the peugoet hdi/ford tdci engines. The new espace is ment to be better than other renaults in terms of reliability and if you stick to the 2.2dci then its fairly common used engine. It gets some of the best reviews interms of what its degined for and you can put the rears seats where you like as they all have the seat belt fitted to them.

My vids with it can be found here
Lummox's other coments also apply as i would like a chest mount but haven't worked one out yet.

The problem of numbers of kids in this country and most of the western world isn't an issue as the avarage has fallen below 2.1 so we are only maintaining our levels its the third world countrys adn the emerging ones where they have lots per couple.
I love my kids and are currently planning on more plus i see all of my time as me time its just that some of it happens to revolve around my kids some my wife aand some me (with the rest going to work  )

So winter boots are fine unless it’s wet (which it tends to be in the UK during winter), in which case they let in water and freeze your feet?

When wearing shorst or tights mine let the water in though in the middle of winter i tend to wear trousers off road. I have yet to get cold feet in my northwave boots as even if the water gets in the cold air doesn't. My over shoes that i use on my road commute also let water in the top but again as they keep the wind out my feet stay warm.

Depends where you ride. And whether you get off and walk a lot, they're not good for walking in, but you're a biker not a walker, right?

Rocky & rough => winter boots

Muddy & deep puddles => overshoes

I would disagree with you on the muddy and puddles one as the mud forces the overshoe up and gets insdie of it plus they offer no protection from walking in water.

If you commute overshoes are great – mostly dry / mostly warm shoes when you get to work. Combined with some seal skins my toes stay happy all winter long. I get about a year out of overshoes until they fall apart. Good value for money I think.

Actually MTBing – overshoes last until the first muddy section you have to work. Then it ends in tears, dummys spat, overshoes cursed, etc

I would whole heartly agree with this. I use some neoprene ones for my commute and Norhtwave boots for off road. they have the advantage that you can walk through a few inches of water with out it making your feet wet as well.

i've got a mitsubishi rvr thats fits my bike INSIDE so that it dont fall off and injure/kill some poor bar steward! bike racks is crap!

The only trouble is that some times there is no room insdie the car sue to family and luggage so it has to go on the outside.

    oliverd1981 – Member
I'd never trust anything other than a towbar rack, I like my car and my bikes too much.

I can go one better than that my rack bolts to the tailgate and isn't going anywhere.

In this case i feel that he should be banned from the road for life and if he then drives that should face a custodial sentance as it would be a deterent.
This is a tragic set of advents right up untill this

You sought to prevent any proper investigation into the circumstances of Mr Spink's death," she said. "You pulled the bike out from under the lorry. It was plainly damaged.

"You must have realised you had collided with a pedal cyclist and that the cyclist must have suffered serious injury, and given the circumstances of the bike being lodged under the lorry, you must have realised that the cyclist might have been killed.

at which point he has shown total disregard for anothers life for all he knew it may have been possible to save him at that point.
I ride on the road and have had stick on here for using a helmet cam on my daily commute but in these sort of moments it would prove things with out question.

What about a Saab. Admittedly the newer ones are based on Vauxhall,

Its only the newer 93 that is the 95 can still trace its roots right back to the fiat whatsit.
My dad has a 95 and it has been as good as gold with them and you will be hard pushed to find a bad word said about the older generation ones. I have been thinking about a 95 estate as our next car if i cna get 3 kids seats in the back.

metal does fail just as easily as that but you tend to have more chance of spotting it before that point but that only works if you are looking for it. In fact there are a lot of applications in engineering where you want it to fail that way.

The plug is a us one and as such the unit will be set up for 110volts and not our 240 so it not that supprising that some have gone pop. you would need to transfrom the voltage down to 110 to make it safe.

I have been using Conti ultra gator skins (in a 23c size but they do bigger) and find them to be good in most conditions and have only had a one puncture since using them. They have been on there for over a year and i am just getting to the point of needing to replace the rear one it has done over 3000 miles.
