Well if people are just doing it for fun what difference does depo make?

Messing up other people’s fun is ****. The gentle but fair competition is part of the fun.

It’s pretty **** to mess up Strava, given 99% of people using Strava are just having fun.

It’s like being the loser bully kid who stomps on other kids’ sandcastles on the beach, because the other kids are actually interacting and having fun together. You know, they know sandcastles are all a bit meaningless and temporary, and if they really want to build something they should become a civil engineer, but it’s a bit of fun together and oh-for-****-sake-that-kid-has-jumped-on-it-again-what-a-tosser

What’d be really great is if a site full of cyclists decided it was a good idea to build disparaging and negative stereotypes of other cyclists. We struggle to find enough motorists to do it, so let’s make sure we help them to make our lives a misery.

People who say they never see cars jumping reds are simply not looking. On busy fast roads it happens pretty much every time a light turns red. How many times have you driven through just as a light goes yellow, and looked in your mirror to see at least one or two cars coming through behind you?

I had massive problems getting tyres on with cloth rim tapes. Ended up improvising with a thin strip of gaffer tape just covering the bottom of the channel.

Don’t go down the emissions route, you’ll just look silly. It’s a red herring. The tax is for using roads.

Proof? Buy two cars, run one on the road, use the other only for closed course rallying and racing. They both produce the same emissions, yet only one has to pay emissions road tax.

Okay, I’ll buy two VW Golf Bluemotions. Oh dear, that’s your point kind of ruined.

Seems a bit weird to assume that all frames from China will be roughly the same quality. Last time I looked, China was quite big. I wouldn’t even assume that all frames from, say, Northampton, would be the same.

I reckon 90~% of popels problems are user error

I know the techniques, I’ve been cycling for decades, I’ve even watched all the Stans sites videos just to see if there’s something I’m missing.

The tape is the big difference. It goes on fine without it.

Politely… but is everyone here made of money? I’m not going to just buy a new tyre because I’ve had to replace a broken wheel.

I just want to use up these tyres for one more summer, they’re a bit old so probably not ideal for tubeless.

Strava’s great for road biking, if nothing else but to track your improvement. Very motivating. I’ve worked on road bike climbing on a local hill and it’s been great watching my times improve. I’m now fitter than I’ve ever been and Strava has been a big factor in that.

If you have the van driver’s details, surely you should pass them to the insurance company?

Is that actual “causing havoc” or BritishDriverSpeak’s version of “causing havoc”?

The latter usually translates as “taking me off autopilot and perhaps making me wait a moment or two”.

As for the comments about rules “only applying to the able bodied”, well that’s absolutely fine with me. Seems a miniscule “price” to pay for being able bodied.

Not much in the way of noticeable healing going on…

…and nor will there be for a while. You’re probably roughly at the peak of the pain now.

You’re probably not having to reaccelerate the wheel as much over small bumps, but really, 2lbs is not a lot of difference. It’s less than a litre of water in a camelbak, for instance.

Facism is explicitly NOT a free-speech agenda. That’s where the free-speech argument breaks down. Groups whose ideology doesn’t subscribe to it can’t hide behind it

A lane to the left is meant to be moving slower.

Just wrong. It is specifically required to give way to cyclists in a lane to your left as you turn across it.

No that it matters, here’s the first three I’ve found on a quick search:

    https://jobsearch.direct.gov.uk/GetJob.aspx?JobID=1648709 – Minimum wage.
    http://www.placingpeoplebedford.co.uk/jobseekers/job-info.php?job_id=1224 – Minimum wage.
    https://jobsearch.direct.gov.uk/GetJob.aspx?JobID=1557187 – Minimum wage.

    £400-500 a week? I strongly doubt it.

But anyway, it shouldn’t matter. If there’s a problem with dust flying around, affecting machinery, and the council figure there’s a financial or safety reason to ask nicely, then that’s all good. Just bag it up. I bet plenty of people chuck all sorts of rancid stuff into bins, loose. Cat litter, metal shavings, whatever. They don’t have time to work out whether it’s a bit of floor sweepings or something worse, they’ve breathed it in already. Just be polite and chuck it in a paper bag.

Jeez, they asked nicely enough. How long does it take to pour the stuff into a paper bag?

Know of LOADS of erroneous data though. A local loop our club use for a 20 mile TT has some ridiculous times. The course does take in 4 laps of a 4 mile circuit as well as a 2 mile start and 2 mile finish. Fastest Strava time is about 28 minutes!

Strava has to allow for a lot of stuff. You can’t really blame them for this one. I believe the rule is that you have to have been “on course” for 75% of the track for a segment to be counted. That corrects GPS wobble… but of course if you get a nice sharp reading over 3 of those 4 laps, there’s your 75%. Probably the quick rider only did 2 or 3 laps, or some other mash-up of roads in the vicinity that meant they’d covered enough of the course for Strava to count it.

You’re not setting it an easy challenge with 4 laps and a run in/run out.
