And it depends how much motoring you’ll be doing. If you’re a 20,000 mile a year driver, you’ll have a *very* high miler very quickly.

And it depends on the condition. Etc etc. Personally I’d spend the same on a Focus TD and probably get half the mileage, but I’m boring.

It really depends on the price.
    I bought a 150,000+ Volvo 740 once, but I only paid £400 for it.

IF HS is so good, why not have the private sector pay for it from the outset?

Infrastructure shouldn’t be built on the basis of its own single balance sheet. Personally I think a proper high speed rail system on a par with those in most of the rest of Europe is a no-brainer

the story may be fake, but there ‘really’ are some sick people in this world to publish a story about someone dying in a car smash as ‘entertainment’

It’s just a generic story creator. You can put any name in the URL.

Big George wondering how he’s gonna tell Lance about breaking on of his bikes…

True and dull story: I was sitting in a bar in Roubaix when that happened, watching on the telly, and Roger Hammond’s missus was there too, having wandered up the road, found the bar, and found us chatting in English. What I learned that day: Having a significant other racing in Paris Roubaix is a nerve wracking experience. When his teammate’s bike explodes, you go a very pale colour

May be it would be more productive to write to Kier Starmer and get him and his staff to show some balls instead.

    Damn good idea.

Recommendations for comfortable road saddles also?

Brooks, if you happen to suit them. Mine is incredibly comfortable. I’ve done some 100+ milers on it and not even thought about it.

And another trick the media enjoy is comparing the bare bones price of a foreign price of kit with the home grown alternative, ignoring development, through life costs, training, parts etc etc.

    This, absolutely.

We do it all over the place, not just the military. Witness trains being bought from Germany for a fraction less than the price of British built alternatives, because the rules mean there is way too much focus on that single balance sheet, not on the wider economic picture. £1bn spent in German factories is seen as better than £1.1bn spent in UK factories, despite the fact that the latter is far better for the overall UK economy.

You’d have to ride it with a replica yellow jersey.

If the governing body turns out to be completely complicit and unapologetic, what are the IOC (notwithstanding their own squeaky clean track record) going to do? “Oh, that’s okay, come along anyway”

the fact you are buying a beef burger and getting upto 29% horse meat……

29% meat in a supermarket burger? I’d be impressed!

(i.e. “They were all at it” is too simplistic a viewpoint when some of them were coercing the others, with threats of demotion/loss of livelihood/never making it at all)

I’m not saying it does. But I’m saying that those applying the pressure are guilty of something worse than those giving into it. That’s a perfectly normal legal/moral position

Many people clearly need to read “Bad Science” and take a look at the provenance of some of the claims on the internet, for instance when the main lobby group is run by a “Dr” whose doctorate is an honourary doctorate of humanities awarded by a non-accredited university.

If the most important member of a team is basically telling others that to ride at the level they want to ride at, they have to dope, then yes, it is okay to pin additional blame to him. But you know that already, I don’t know why I’m biting.

As far as I am concerned it was a level playing field

Why do people keep trotting out this line even though the USADA report (among other things) show clearly that this just isn’t true? I don’t get it. It’s like wearing ignorance like a badge.

Could anyone whose argument effectively amounts to “I get a crap deal, therefore other people should too” please kindly stop it? That’s just the kind of race-to-the-bottom that powerful people love to encourage with their divide-and-rule strivers and shirkers nonsense. Thank you.,

I don’t really believe that frame stiffness is going to be a huge factor worth more than a few percent on a climb.

I do believe that muscle conditioning around a particular geometry, and simply knowing the “feel” of a bike on a climb can have a big difference. I definitely acquired much better ability to climb on my road bike just by doing it more.

Not trolling its a genuine question I always thought actual proof was req for someone to be guilty

Why? If twenty people see you steal a car, but you manage not to leave fingerprints, that doesn’t make you innocent. Witness testimony is not the same as hearsay (which is more like “I heard X say that Y did it”)

his misfortune if you like is to have won the TdF so many times and to have the spot light on him….

He tried to ruin people. Ask Emma O’Reilly whether she thinks he’s the same as any other doper, but for a bit more success. You can’t just put aside the fact that Lance, more than pretty much anyone else, has been on the offensive in terms of shutting up his critics in some of the harshest ways.

but instead he is going to name and shame all the way through the highest levels in cycling.

Or he could be adopting the penitito model so beloved of mafia trials. Show remorse while obfuscating the story in a mish-mash of implicating new and old people and confusing the story enough that we’ll still never really know everything that went on.

    We’ll see.

Part of the criteria is that the care must be six years old or younger, and less than 160gsm emissions.

I bet you could get something dirt cheap. A high-milage small Kia or something.
