I've had a Crumpler Donny Frank for 3 years, use it for commuting and general bag useage…still looks new despite all it's use! Highly recommended.

A few attempts whilst out on my Ute today but this was the closest half decent one!…

The pannier's on order – it seems Kona don't ship too many extra panniers to the UK so have been waiting for Kona Europe to send some over. Very much looking forward to more even weight distribution on my shopping trips!

The stock (slick) tyres that come on the Ute are pretty large by 700c standards so you could possibly get some slightly knobbly 29ers in.

Supersessions – it'll be fine on Sustrans routes!

Got mine on Cyclescheme but if you do get one then make sure you get a second pannier ordered at the same time as the bike only comes with one! Mine's been on order since February but should hopefully finally be here this week!

I'm intending on getting a child seat for mine but a rack mounted one for the rear. Check out Practical Cycles for a range of child seat as they have a pretty good range.

LBS sold me a road HTII BB last time my hardtail needed one. Couldn't be arsed to go back so continued to ride with it. Operationally speaking it didn't feel any different to the MTB one, but only lasted one winter compared to the 2 years I usually get out of a MTB BB, so I'd guess the seals aren't as good.

If you fancy getting some family biking in, you can ride the Coast to Coast route between Portreath and Bissoe. If you're not bringing bikes then you can hire some from Bissoe.

Otherwise, pretty much as everyone has suggested. Go for a drive along the coast between St Ives and Lands End – proper remote feeling you won't get anywhere else in Cornwall (except Bodmin Moor!). There's Paradise Park in Hayle which has all types of exotic birds (feathered variety)- not been tehre for years admitedly but used to like it when I was a kid. Talking of Hayle – the Maize Maze looked pretty barren when I drove past last week so don't bother with that. Praa Sands is nice as is Gwithian/Godrevey for beach action.

Scillies is good for a day trip, but it's a flat bottomed ship so if the sea is choppy, the 2hr or so trip over is not pleasant! You can fly over but it's pretty expensive.

I've got the latest Kona Ute and love it. However it doesn't come in a frame only option and has 700c wheels, so fat tyre choice is slim. It is a good bike though and lighter than the Big Dummy and Yuba. Those bikes are built more for carrying heavy loads so are a bit heftier weight-wise whereas the Ute is lighter and designed more for shopping/commuting/lighter loads.

In addition to the District, Trek have the Soho which comes with mudguards so a bit more commuter-friendly…doesn't look anywhere near as good as the District tho!

Got the same problem with mine and like SFB I only paid £50 for it in the PC World sales, so the idea of paying more than that to get it fixed hurts a bit.

Been using my Android phone a lot lately to record tracks but don't want it getting scratched or dirty so might end up getting the Garmin fixed.

I'm a big basketball fan with my team being the Orlando Magic who play at the Orlando Arena (or at least as it was before sponsorship naming rights changed it)…the Orlando Arena was affectionatley shortened to the 'O-rena'. 45 was the number one of favourite Magic players wore back in the day.

P.S. Go Magic tonight against the Celtics!

There's some stuff out of Minions – I joined Cornwall MTB for a ride there a few months ago, route here – http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=108580619908404806981.00047f918989483aae9c6&t=h&z=13.

Wharncliffe is probably your best best.
    Otherwise Canncock Chase/Stile Cop DH.
Locally, Drum Hill north of Derby has a little bit to play on but only worth going if you live close by.

Trek Fuel EX8 with Maxxis ADvantage 2.1 – perfect choice for me. Did the Dyfi on my Scandal last year (also with ADvantages) and felt pretty sore at the end…this time round I felt much better afterwards. Full suss was definatley a good choice!

My second Dyfi as well – enjoyed it more this year than last – for me, some how it didn't feel as bad as last year despite me being less fit than last year…still finished right at the back as expected tho!

Rightplacerighttime – not sure if was you but I reckon someone got an awesome photo of me on the last descent at the end of the day 8) Looking forward to seeing the gallery later in the week!

Oh yeah…and World Cup Descent was 'rad to the gnar'…just wish I wasn't forced to take a breather half way down after bashing my nuts against the saddle. I'm calling that downhill 'The Nutcraker' from now on :-)

Muddy tyres + slippery slate + general wetness = me wondering whether to wear knee pads (just in case like) :?

Alternatively, a can of MTFU might be more appropriate!

B*ggered mine up on my 08 Fuel EX8 last year, went to local bearing suppliers who said it was a custom bearing that they couldn't supply – didn't bother with my LBS (Trek dealer) as I knew they got their bearings from the same supplier.

Ended up forking out for a Hope headset in the end :?

If it's similar to our off-road C2C route then there will still be a fair amount of road miles so I wouldn't go for anything too sticky otherwise it'll hurt!

    As above generally plus:

    Beyondpod – good podcast app
Co-Pilot Live – Sat Nav (my Hero is still only running Android 1.5 so not able to try Google's free sat-nav yet).
Grid Reference – for obtaining your location on OSGR format.
    Last FM
Mileage – for keeping track of fuel costs/mpg
    Tweetcaster – for Twitter
