Kevin Cunniffe (Blackhound) finished last night in 29 days-ish so mucho respecto to him.

He emailed half way through the tour and sounded close to quitting as he was so knackered but thankfully he continued. Once the pain has subsided and he’s recovered, I bet he’ll be glad he did!

    Well done Kev!

Overkill for XC riding but definitely worth considering if you ride DH

My original post from 2 years ago – looks like I may have been lucky, but worth a try contacting them, you never know!

Try giving Thule a call, I snapped one of mine accidentally and after consulting with the STW oracle was told to give them a call and they might send me a replacement for free. They did :D

GMG Yepp is good though a bit pricey. Needs a separate bracket to attach to the bike rack (which if you’re lucky you can get thrown in with the seat). Was the best option for my ‘non standard’ rack-width Ute.

Well, I had an awesome time last night….loved the warm up acts, loved the music, loved the engagement with the crowd, loved the fireworks at the end. Well worth the 600 mile round trip :D

    Sure is….

    …if you’re 2 years old!

He must’ve got his training at Tesco though as I’ve seen bikes in his shop with the forks on backwards before.

The old Foo fighters/travelodge combo huh? That’ll be exactly what I’m doing! (Assuming my tickets ever arrive)
Yeah – still waiting for ours too…. Unfortunately all the travelodges & hotels in a 25mile radius appear to be booked, & were booked up within hours of the tickets going on sale

I left it late to book accommodation and nearly booked that campsite thing but checked Travelodge again and managed to get in one ‘reasonably’ close by for the same price (well 20 miles away but I’m travelling 300 odd for the gig so it’s close enough for me!)

Oh and my tickets turned up a week ago FWIW, I’d be phoning up tomorrow and double checking they haven’t cocked something up if you’ve not had the email yet to say they’ve been posted

Could possibly use Sustrans NCN Route 3 (The Cornish Way) to link ‘proper’ off-road areas together maybe?

Man these ‘Orange Five’s are ugly’ threads are getting REEEAAALLLLLYYYY boring now. Some love them, some hate them. Get over it!

However, I think we can all unanimously agree that this is the ugliest bike ever produced no doubt…

I rooted my Desire mainly so I could more apps onto the SD card and so get rid of that annoying ‘low memory’ notification. Rooted mine using the Revoked method/programme which was really easy (XDA -Revoked.

Yes rooting does seem quite intimidating to start with but once you root using Revoked and install your first ROM, it’s quite easy. Just remember to follow the steps one by one.

For what it’s worth, ‘Gingervillain’ is a good Gingerbread ROM to start with, though saying that I’ve just switched to Cyanogenmod 7 as of last night (on which GV is based) and seems alright so far too.

Had a Hex, now have a Recon. When I first tried the Recon it felt more on top of my head whereas in the Hex, my head felt more ‘in it’. Felt a bit weird at first but soon got used to it and now the Recon feels absolutely fine, though maybe the Hex was a tiny amount more comfortable.

Sizewise, my head was in between sizes so went for the large/XL which was way too big so returned it for a small/medium which was much better. Sizing may be a small issue so I’d try before you but if you can.

Would recommend the 661 if only coz they look ace!

I live in the Camborne/Redruth/Helston area – plenty of bridleways and cheeky footpaths available round here – good mix of XC and techy downhills as mentioned above. Give me a shout if you fancy hooking up for a ride!

Not too familiar with Penwith area riding-wise, did do a ride west of St Ives on my own a while back, just got the map out and put together a route over the moor which was nice so that would be an option. Otherwise, drop Gavtheoldskater a email as he’s down there and might be able to give you some route ideas?

Oh yeah…hope you have sea legs as the boat trip over from the Scillies is not nice when it’s rough!

I’ve been having similar thoughts lately. I’d love an Alpine 160 but at the end of the day if I did go down this line (and it would be my only bike), it would be ridden for 85% XC and 15% DH so a Five would be best I think. It’s good enough for the likes of Rowen Sorrell and Danny MacAskill for a bit of ‘lite’ DH so I reckon it’d be alright for me!

But yeah, if you’ve already got a DH bike I’d go for the Five anyway.

S*d it, just booked myself in at a TL on the M40 – bit of a drive after the gig but it’s on the way home for the next day and will be comfy compared to a travel mat in a tent!

Yeah everywhere in MK is booked out but there are a few vacancies at some places within 20 miles or so now.

Hi Joe. I live in the same area (near Four Lanes-ish), there’s plenty of bridleway routes to explore especially nearer Redruth. The likes of Carn Brea and Carnmarth have got some techy enough DHs off the top and you can link these up with several other routes for several XC options.

There’s also Poldice near Chacewater with several DH runs if you fancy that.

Drop me an email if you fancy hooking up for a ride and showing round :-)

Just sold my 2008 26″ Fireball on Ebay at the weekend. I assume you’re thinking of the 24″ wheeled version which I can’t really comment on but seems a bit much for a 5 year old IMHO, the 26er was pretty hefty at 34ish lbs so I’d assume the 24″er will only be a few pounds lighter??

I remember ages ago someone on here reported the same issue and that they had contacted Hope about it, but I never heard anything more about it.

Not much help really but just to confirm you’re not the only one who’s noticed it. Still have the original Bonty’s on mine but have always been ‘intending’ on putting some Hope hubs on at some point – this issue had always stuck in my mind though.

I’ve had one for 3 years (2008 EX8) and it’s still one of the best things I’ve ever bought! It climbs really well and IMHO descends very well too. The suspension feels bottomless so will take harder hits but also has very little pedal bob when cranking out of the saddle on roads/fireroads. As mentioned, not really a bike for big drops though I have done 4-5ft drops on it with no problems (but I am only 10\11 stone – if you’re a biffer then you might have issues!)

Like most people, I’ve put a shorter stem on and over the years I have changed a lot of components but more to suit my riding style etc than through necessity. My only gripe however has been the lack of seals on the Bontrager/DT Swiss hubs i.e. non-existant, on the front. I’ve had the bearings seize up after only a couple of muddy/gritty/wet rides which was annoying but they are relatively cheap and easy to replace. However this may or may not have been rectified on later models.

    Definately reccommended!
