I wondered the same but in the end figured that the XTs are such a good price, I might as well order them. The only snag is that they are currently out of stock so there’s a bit of a wait at the moment.

I use Advantages for most of the year, including winter rides in the Peak when I lived in Derby. Really good tyre for all conditions bar really gloopy mud (which most non-mud tyres would struggle in anyway)

Ordered some M785 XT’s yesterday as my M775 XT’s have given up. Nowt in stock at the mo but hopefully won’t be long!

Sorry I meant how do the burn times compare to the standard/pre-mod Vision 2?

Just realised I asked Brant for Ragley prices, forgetting he’s not there anymore (although they are Shedfire designed). Apologies!

Jambon – I noticed on the Ragley FB page someone asked if the 29er would take a piggyback shock and the answer was that it should do, so I’d hazard a guess that the 26ers will as well?

    I’d have a guess at £850-£900??

Any news on frame only prices yet Brant?

Am I right in thinking the only reducer lower cup option is the ‘D’ cup (oo-er)?

That’s my only ‘issue’ with the Hope reducer – it’s not very aesthetic! At least on the Big Fat Pig, it just looks like a normal headset as the reduced diameter is within the headtube rather than poking out at the bottom like a turtlehead :D

Just saw this on Bike Magic…interesting idea.

What’s the craic with upgrading the bike whilst you lease it?…ok provided it doesn’t ‘damage’ the bike and you keep the originals sort-of-thing?

Any news on other manufacturers coming on board e.g. Orange for example?

Not available in the UK yet as far as I know. You can download the apk file but it won’t let you download any apps – at least it didn’t when I tried a few weeks ago.

Cheers folks. As I thought, Hope still the best.

Omar – click on ‘Report a problem’ in the bottom corner of the Streetview view and you can get it blurred out.

Love the way the swear filter blanks out the last word, but the URL address in the browser keeps it :-)

I’m not sure what to think of Finesterre – on one hand they’re a local Cornish business so feel I should support them, and I do have one of their merino t-shirts, but on the other hand they come across a bit ‘holier-than-thou’ and sort of ‘we’re amazing – look at us!’ which is a bit much for me.

Something else that erked (sp?) me…they had a blog entry on their site a while back having a dig at NASA for having the slogan ‘Failure is not an option’ and how they think it is and there’s nothing wrong with failure – in a ‘it helps us improve’ kinda way. Fair enough point, but for NASA, who strap men and women to highly explosive rockets and fire them into space at thousands of miles per hour, failure really isn’t an option! Could’ve chosen a better example for their point IMHO.

Look like MX Comps possibly but the decals on yours are different (I’ve got some 2004 MX Comps). Have a look on the Marzocchi archive

Not seen ‘that pic’ but have you looked on the Reader’s Rides section on the Planet X web site for a/that photo? :-)

Same with me except I’ve been eyeing up an Orange Five frame for ages to consolidate and replace my Trek Fuel EX and MmmBop. Drives me nuts somedays
Andy is in that exact same situa…..oh wait hang on.

the trek frame is better why do you want to downgrade

Don’t get me wrong, the EX8 is one of the best things I’ve ever bought. BUT…since I built the MmmBop up nearly a year ago, the EX8 has barely been touched. I prefer the angles of the MmmBop much more, and my riding is less about the miles these days and more about short, fun XC with some play/DH thrown in…ideally now, I want a tough, slack, low maintenance full suss trail bike which kinda combines the EX8 and the MmmBop and the Five seems like the perfect combo.

That’s my justification to myself anyway

Buy you’re own and install? Short answer, no. It would be classed as along the lines of an unauthorised obstruction in the Highway.

Lobby your local Councillor if you want speed humps put in. Or residents could possibly raise the funds themselves and pay for the Council to install – but the Council would have to accept the future maintenance and liability, which may or may not be an issue.

Fair enough – from the Streetview it looked like there wasn’t a broken diagonal line for the offside ASLs :-)

Basically controlled crossings can only be installed where there is high pedestrian crossing demand and highish traffic flow – if this location has neither, then a zebra/pelican/puffin etc crossing wont’t meet criteria.

It’s an uncontrolled crossing so should be treated as one i.e. stop, look, listen etc. If a motorist stops to let someone cross, then the cobbled surface has done what it’s probably there for, to make drivers more aware of peds in the area and voluntarily give way to them, without the need for over-engineering or Traffic Regulation orders etc.

No not local, just being pedantic – the right turn ASL’s should have a dashed line to allow cyclists to enter the box, otherwise they’re crossing a stop line which is obviously illegal when there’s a red light

When you do write a letter, can you tell them to sort out the Advanced Stop lines on the right turn lanes on the main road, as someone forgot to let cyclists legally use them

Yeah PS3. I’m playing on Hard skill level, agree that in 2010 anything below was too easy…Hard seems challenging/realistic enough at the moment, though I have only done the first 2 races of the season.

Loving the game so far. I did think when it first started up that the graphics looked a little ‘rougher’ than F1 2010, but by no means would I say they’re poor. Frame rate seems ok to me too.

Just finished my 2nd race of the season in the Lotus – qualified in 18th :D , finished last

Yesterday’s east Dartmoor ride…only 14 miles but 840m of climbing, with some sessioning mixed in on the descents (not by me, I was too knackered!)

I’ve got Shimano M575s on my MmmBop and I’d definately recommend them as a very good budget brake. I have XTs on my full suss and whilst the Deore’s aren’t quite as powerful as them, they are very good in my experiance. I’m still running the stock organic pads too after 10 months but will need to replace them soon. Have ridden XC and some DH on them and have worked flawlessly for me everytime.

Having said that (and just looking at CRC only), the SLX’s are only £3 an end more expensive so I’d go with them out of the two (or….Merlin has them at £140 for the pair including rotors which seems pretty good.).

The Charing Cross is at the top of my list for my next commuter (whenever my workplace decides how to run the scheme after the recent EU VAT changes).

The only other disc, drop bar bikes I’ve considered is the Kinesis Decade Tripster or the new Kaffenback. Both are frame only but you could get them built up with new (and maybe old) parts from most LBS’s under the scheme I’m sure.
