There are a couple of bridleways which head northwest out of Cardinham up to the Callywith side of Bodmin. Or you could head south up to the A38 from Cardinham, cross over using the Toucan crossing and head SW towards Lanhydrock, then follow NCN Route 3 over the footbridge and that will take you ‘straight’ towards the Camel Trail.

Edit: just to add, I’ve never ridden either routes…so couldn’t say what they’re like!

If everyone has a gmail account then why not use Google+ (I’m assuming Google groups is something different?)?

Set up a private Community (similar to Facebook groups) then people can post stuff on the Community page. You could also use Hangouts to message or video conferance too. Also integrates with Google Drive, Maps, Youtube etc nicely.

G+ is much better visually to Facebook and the mobile app is much better too.

Gunnagofasta – if you liked Gawton and were looking for more downhill stuff in the Bodmin area then there’s unofficial/semi-official stuff in woods on the other side of the town. Bit tricky to find, so best meeting up with a local though.

Not exactly fair to compare Cardinham to Gawton. One’s XC and the other’s Downhill. Different levels of grading.

    *pedant mode on*

Can people please refer to the Croix de Fer as a ‘Croix de Fer’ rather than a ‘CdF’, as the CdF is a different model in the Genesis range (albeit a lower spec Croix de Fer)

    *pedant mode off*

    (From a CdF owner) :-D

There is a Think! Cyclist campaign…you mean you’ve never heard of it?

That’s ok because no one else has either.

    No seriously there is.

The XC race loop linked above is at an area known locally as Poldice Valley and is the local downhill/free ride area. The XC race took in one of the older dh runs and there’s loads of newer lines which all criss-cross on that side of the valley. Plenty of stuff if you have a DH bike but it’s still great fun on a trail bike and as the racers found, good fun even on an xc bike. Loads of stuff to link up :-)

Heh,yeah who’d have thought it on here eh flowerman :!:

Thanks folks. Looks like my mate and I are gonna stay and catch it on Dirt. Would be great to see it but having seen some FB pics and the overnight forecast, I don’t think we’re up for a 5hr round trip to get cacked in mud!

Just hope it’s not too misty for the live feed!

I went 1×10 on my Five a month or so ago. Have got a Hope chain ring, Hope ISCG top guide, full bash guard and Shimano Zee short cage rear mech.

Since I converted I’ve ridden lots of techy local trails, Cwm Carn and Afan and last weekend a local urban DH race, and not once have I had the chain come off….really impressed with the set up.

The medium cage you’ve got might mean the chain is a little slacker than what I’ve got but I would’ve thought it shouldn’t be a problem. I’d get the Hope top guide and go with the set up you mention :-)

Looked but didn’t ‘see’ the motor bike coming…maybe he didn’t see the motor bike because he wasn’t specifically looking for one, on a conscious or unconscious level…known as saccadic masking[/url].

Good advice on that page for all road users.

Yeah wrapped them in bar tape (hideous zebra stylie pattern for some reason!). Had to remove it to get my shifters/levers off when I removed the bars so the sticky stuff is still on the bars.

Will post the link up here this evening.

I bought some and used them for a bit of my commuter. I liked the ability to stretch out my riding position a bit especially when riding into a head wind and having a different hand position.

But…they are too narrow for brake levers and gear shifters together. The flat bar section becomes really cramped if your running two brake levers and two shifters and I found it difficult to use the brakes effectively.

Probably better for running on a singlespeed/fixie but wouldn’t recommend it on a geared bike.

I still have my bars so if you’re interested in having them, you can for a fiver plus postage.

Edit: I’ve got pics online but can’t link to them at work, so will sort it tonight if you want to see? :-)

Here’s my CdF I picked up just before Christmas. Used mainly for commuting every day but also for local CX rides, and later in the year for some weekend touring. Really pleased with it :-)

    2 million bike posts, of which;

    – a quarter will be “what tyres….”
    – a quarter will be “Tubeless. Talk to me”
    – one eighth will be “Show me your Orange Fives”
    – one eighth will be “Going 1×10/2×10, what do I need?”
    – a quarter, everything else

Do you run a bash guard? If so how about a Hope chain guide? Just put one on my new 1×10 setup on my Five…loads of mounting choices, simple and light weight.

Back from doing 3 laps of the new trail this avo…it’s good! Nice an flowy and despite being a blue grade trail, it really is great fun for experienced riders as well as beginners. Some nice berms and whoopy sections you can really pump and makes good use of the relative lack of gradient.

I think there was one section which was closed off still so the trail was about 4.5 miles long but well worth a visit if you’re near enough. Should be even better when that section plus the red bits open up :-)

    orena45

    Will do.

Can’t remember how long exactly the trail is but remember it not being that like long from the blurb – 5 or 6 miles maybe. Will find out later (as long as I can get my CRC bargain Fox Float shock fitted before I get there!)
