A big shame there won’t be UKGE next year. Have done all races this year and despite not getting the results I’ve wanted, I’ve had a really good time so far this year overall.

I really hope there is some sort of national series next year, whether it’s a standalone one or separate races under a ‘national’ banner…we can’t not have a national series in this country…otherwise Welshies – expect to be inundated in your series!

Finally picked up my X-Team Rallon at the weekend and took out for a shakedown yesterday… so fast and so much fun! Can’t wait til I’ve got the suspension properly dialled.

Quick question – I’m sure it’s obvious but I can’t quite figure it out (or I’m just being to precious with my new toy), but how do you shift the shock position into the lower setting? I’ve unscrewed the shock bolt and tried budging it but it doesn’t easily move. Do I just need to push the shock forward with a bit more force?

is it just me, or does that bike look very, very wrong? feels like looking at the aftermath of a horrible crash where some poor sod’s foot is pointing the wrong way and I want to hurl

    Yep, it’s just you

(currently waiting for mine to be shipped)

Sounds good dlr, thanks for the info. Got any photos? :-)
I had been eyeing up the VRX before, seemed like amazing value really but they’re sold out of mediums now…but to be honest, I preferred the stealth look of the Pro anyway.

If I did, I’d be looking to get the Pro frameset, built up with Pikes, 1×11 Shimano XT or SRAM GX and Mavic Crossmax XL wheels. My current Five weighs around 30.5lbs so 31lbs isn’t an issue, though with the Mavics that should help keep the weight down I should imagine.

I tried the Bell but neither size would fit my head properly so got the MET. Been using it for enduros this year and it’s been fine for all day riding. Inevitably with the cheek pads in it is a bit warmer compared to a normal lid but I’ve not found it too bad overall. I whip the cheek pads out for long transitions on hotter days then pop them back in at the top of the next stage.

They were a nightmare at Hamsterley Forest last weekend for UKGE. I did a track walk for one of the stages when I got there (after a long drive so not particularly sweaty!) and got swarmed straight away, never seen anything like it! They were just as bad when riding over the weekend.

I’m going prepared with a mozzie head net for the next round at Ae Forest!

Used to take mine to Hawkins & Shepherd on Liversage Street. Can’t remember what they were like cost wise but they were a good, honest bunch who did mess you about.

    Yeah likewise!

Last time I checked I was 15th in Masters (not sure out of how many) but there were still a few more to roll in.

Definite big respect to the Cable Guy, best bodge of the day!

Still got this at the top of my list, just waiting for house move to complete in a couple of weeks then it’s all go. :D

Gonna go full bike now rather than frame only…fancy the X-Team but keep reading several scare stories of the faff involved in getting BOS suspension fixed under warranty if it goes wrong. It almost persuades me to go with the X10 with the Fox suspension and upgrade the wheels and transmission instead :?

Disappointed it’s cancelled, but actually works out beneficial for me as we’re moving house in a few weeks and I could do with the 2 days annual leave off work back!

Glad Rnd 5 will be Dyfi though. Never ridden Eastridge but Dyfi will be awesome.

Yep, mine were pretty much the same, though Stage 3 on Sunday went better for me. If anyone is interested, my race report is HERE.

I get an hour or so of relief from the midge bites, think they’ve stopped itching…and then get a full on itch attack for 10 mins. It drove Ms orena45 nuts on Monday night!

Didn’t realise Stage 5 was all new – good effort from the trail builders. I gave Felix a lift up and back from Grizedale – he was right there filming when I went OTB on my seeding run…said it was almost certainly going to go into the ‘highlights’.

Yep, great weekend… well, apart from my disastrous seeding run!

Good to ride around with ya Chris (Andy, on the Five) :-)

My medium Mk3 is about 27lbs with cheap Manitou Minute forks, 3×9 and Stans Crests on SSC Switch hubs. Feels and rides light enough and is still fun, which is all that matters really :-)

Yeah I’m good Alex, hope all us good with you (apart from the bike stuff obviously).

There are fire roads into the woods which aren’t necessarily designated for cycle use but I shouldn’t have thought would be a problem.

The Beast MTB trail has a fair amount of tight switchbacks up and down so wouldn’t be suitable for a trailer.

Pretty happy with my MET Parachute, which wasn’t bad on the climbs. Might pop the cheek pads out on hot days for climbing as that’s where I’ve noticed it the most.

Lots were riding in the new MET Parachute and Bell Super 2r but lots in DH fullfacers too. I did see one rider wearing the old MET Parachute which I was surprised got through..

Ha, cheers bentiggerwyles! Can’t believe it happened so early, and on probably my favourite stage too. Conti Protections tubelessed will be back on for round 2 at Grizedale!

Yep, a great weekend and great stages. Was doing alright til I got a puncture at the very start of Stage 4 so had to leg it on foot all the way to the bottom  Cost me about 40 places in Masters!

Gutted for those who had their bikes stolen :(

I’m heading up tomorrow afternoon. First UKGE for me although done several SW based events over the last couple of years. First time riding Triscombe too.

Swapped my 34t chainring for a 32t and still got a Swampy up front after last weekend’s Enduro1 round but will probably whack my Butcher back on for practice tomorrow.

If you see a Westcoast MTB/Velotive jersey, that’ll be me in it so say hi (especially as I don’t think I’m going to know anyone there!)

    From the Pinkbike article comments:

    flag OneUpComponents (19 hours ago)
We’re stoked that Pinkbike cares enough about us to run this article. However, as we expressed to the editor, we don’t feel that it is particularly news worthy. Shimano, SRAM, Race Face, Hope, E-13 and Wolftooth all have patents or patent applications for various designs. Not taking the necessary steps to protect our own ideas puts us in the unfavourable position of having our unique designs duplicated while our much larger competitors block us from their novel concepts.

    flag OneUpComponents (16 hours ago)
It seems there may be some misunderstanding about what exactly we have patented here. We have not patented something as generic and ambiguous as a ‘wide range cassette’ or an ‘expander sprocket’. Our patent is for a very specific set of features that OneUp was the first to, invent, market and patent. They are cited in claim 1 of our patent.

    I Hope that helps,
    Jon @ Oneup

    Thanks folks, really helpful information.

I’d be looking to get new wheels at the same time so would go 12×142 at the back, so as long as it comes with that option then that’s good.

Thanks for the offer llfauntleroy, but I’m down in Cornwall so a bit too far away for a spin!

My Five weighs in at around 30lbs so the Rallon at a similar weight would be ideal. 34t with 11-36 isn’t too bad for short, punchy Cornish climbs but I’ll drop back to 32t for some of the longer, hillier UKGE events this year either way no doubt!

Read Doug @ Basque MTB’s review on his site which is very helpful. Read quite a few reviews and all seem to give glowing comments of it.

Would be going with BOS Kirk equipped frame-only from my LBS, with some Hope wheels and either a Pike or Marzocchi 350 NCR. Currently running a 34t on my Five…the Rallon is a bit heavier so might drop back to a 32t although quite fancy Shimano XT 11 spd when it comes out so a 34t would be perfect with the lower range cassette. Good to know it’ll take a >32t chainring :-)

Just to clarify, are the 142×12 dropouts included or do they need to be bought separately (or are they a free option when ordering)? How much if bought separately?

i looked at the 350cr, they look good value but I’m put off by Marz on the brink of folding.

Marzocchi reckon the bike side of things is ok…

    Future of Marzocchi[/url]

I’m certainly considering the 350 NCR for my next bike, it sounds like a great fork

72nd overall, 31st in Masters for me. Not too bad considering my lack of training and a terrible final stage but plenty of room for improvement for Grogley in May.

The stage 1 climb was a killer but a great range of trails to test through out the day.

Much respect to the guy on the Commencal Meta V4 who broke a pedal on stage 1 and carried on just using the spindle!
