Rode Penhydd yesterday then the race today. 2 of the wettest rides for me in a long time!

3 punctures today and 2 pairs of worn out brake pads…had to ride my second attempt at Stage 4 with a flat from top to bottom so I’m dreading seeing the state of my rear rim tomorrow in the light! :?

Normally 2 weeks as I understand, but my Rallon took 4 weeks. It’ll be worth the wait :-)

Yeah I’m doing the WGES race on the Sunday. The trails being used are Helter Skelter, The Rock and Happy Life on Blade and the Black Run on White’s, so those will be closed to ‘the public’ I think.

Guess I’ll turn up on Saturday and see what’s open foodwise.

Not been to Afan for 3 years so looking forward to it, but am aware of all the deforestation that’s occurred. Looking at some recent Youtube clips, it does look a lot rockier than before in places, but it is what it is I guess now.

I’m not that fussy, hot food and coffee is all I need!

Sooooo…what’s the latest craic with Afan Forest visitor centre? Is it still running? If so, is the food decent/has it improved based on the comments above from before?

Heading up for a lap of Penhydd on Sat afternoon so lunch there or up at Glyncorrwg end? Cheeeers!

Anyone know if there’s a bike wash at Afan Trail Centre? Thinking of doing a lap of Penhydd the day before and can’t really take a muddy bike back to the hotel afterwards.

Is there one at Glyncorrwg as well thinking about it?

Done similar recently though on my Genesis CdF commute/’gravel’ bike, not a road bike. Went from 2×9 50/34 + 11-32 to 1×9, Raceface N/W 42t + 11-28.

Works well and is a lot quieter plus it looks better. Have the same bottom gear as 50-32 before (I almost never used the 34t chainring) but have obviously lost out at the top end, spinning out at 32mph downhill.

How’s the mud clearance? Only one I’ve seen in the flesh, I overtook because the frame was blocked solid with genuine #enduro mud, but that was orrible conditions and he might have had some daft tyre.

Wasn’t me on Stage 5 at UKGE Dyfi last year was it?! :lol:
(Though that was a Minion DHF, Mucky Nutz, Deville fork & a shed-load of fresh claggy mud combo rather than the frame!)

With Rnd 3 of BES also there in June, Dyfi is going be ‘enduroed’ out by summer!

The Afan round of BES is to be relocated, same date but some other mystical location TBC.

I’m signed up for Rnd 1 of the Welsh Gravity Enduro Series next month, can’t wait! The Southwest series has gone very quiet in recent months so not sure if that’s going to happen now, which would be a shame…but then I’ve heard rumours that the Enduro1 series is being renamed and will be running with some southwest rounds so that would soften the blow.

I remember when I was doing Non Motorised Transport Planning at uni, the lecturer gave us a stat that in the UK, for every half hour commute, on average you’d only get rained on 1 in 14 days…basically telling us a bit of rain is no excuse for not riding to work when preaching to the masses!

Also just bought a 520 (last weekend). 1 MTB ride and 4 days of commuting and it’s been 100% fine getting and keeping satellite signal. Bluetooth connection with my Nexus 5 has also been 100% with quick ride uploads and texts coming through.

Not impressed with the temperature reading consistently 4-5 degrees under but at least it is consistent on that!

Should be open, Haldon’s relatively high and exposed whereas Dinnum is down in a valley so not as affected by the wind.

28c road tyres at 75 psi. Have had 4 nipples go on the back and a couple on the front over the space of 2 and a bit years, though 2 in recent weeks. Had a few spare brass nips knocking around and used them to replace but have run out so need more.

So…14 gauge?

No just a couple that have snapped recently…though at this rate I will be replacing them all before not too long!

I’m definitely doing the Southwest Enduro Series and Ard Rock so the least conflicting series for me is RMUKES, reckon I could possibly do 4 or 5 rounds and maybe squeeze in the BES Dyfi round if I can as I love the venue!

Been a Magic fan since 1993 but have to admit over the last 3 years or so, I’ve been less and less bothered about keeping up with things.

I do know the Lakers are bad though, and like you I take much pleasure from that (not that I’m still bitter Shaq left us to go there!)
