orena45 – I nearly broke my hand 2 weeks ago. It’s bloomin sore, I’m full of man-flu and coughing up my lungs every 10 minutes at the moment.

See you there!

In other words…MTFU 😆

Arghh…took a heavy fall last week and hurt my shoulder. It’s getting better but not 100% and I can’t decide whether its worth going or not! I’ve got til tonight to decide 😐

Been running Shorty front and Minion DHR rear for a a while but with the info on the web site saying tough tyres are needed, I’ve got a CRC cheap Double Down Tomahawk arriving today for the rear.

Dainese Trail Skins 2 – really comfy and I imagine better for all-day pedalling, but not keen on the mud-gathering knee.
Not been a problem with my mk1s, and I’ve ridden in them for most of the winter.

What do you do to gather lots of mud in your kneepad?

The Mk2 ‘skeleton’ protective area is much more open than the more closed cells of the Mk1.

Just got some Mk2 pads to replace my Mk1 and they are so much comfier to pedal in. Even had a couple of crashes and they’ve been fine. But yeah, I’d say they are more likely to collect mud due to the open design…it might not be much of an issue at all but I won’t know til it gets muddy, which at this rate is fortunately not looking to be for some time!

Had a Five now got a Rallon, both without bottle mounts. It’s a slight inconvenience but there are more important factors to a good bike..

How have you found the Rallon? I’m considering one as a change from my Spitfire

Thoughts and opinions on my blog 🙂 :

Anyway, back on topic…Love my Rallon but still have a thing for Orange bikes and would have a Four in a heartbeat if I could as a second bike/local trail smasher!

Bottle mounts are key to a trail bike like that..

I’d say geometry, build kit, reliability etc are key to a trail bike like that. Bottle mounts are a nice addition. Had a Five now got a Rallon, both without bottle mounts. It’s a slight inconvenience but there are more important factors to a good bike..

Cheers Kimbers.

Hand is absolutely fine, looks worse than it is!

Unfortunately though I took a hit last night dicking about on a mate’s DH trail (the one I posted on FB earlier) so now have a very sore and fairly immobile shoulder 🙁 Hoping it heals in time for Nat Champs…if so, I’m heading up Thursday

Cheers Scott. Nah I wouldn’t! But I’d take that brown powder over brown slop any day though regardless 😆

390 for me – wondering what my start time is going to be!

Indeed, more toilets were needed!

The results on R&R aren’t quite right though as the wrong data was sent so some names are missing. Should hopefully be sorted by tomorrow – although it does knock my position down a couple of places

Pearl Izumi X-Alp Launch II ?

Comes in enduro green or enduro black 😉 (edit: also enduro orange soon as well)

Had a pair for a month and comfortable. My first experience with BOA lacing and much prefer it to laces or the ratchet system on my Shimano M200 shoes.

Bad news/good news for Nat Champs Kimbers…Saturday is practice at Graithwaite side only, but at least the legs will be a bit fresher for the now 44km route on Sunday

Looking forward to Southern Champs, if only so I can go ‘ride my effing bike’! Barely done any MTB riding the last 9 weeks as general life has gotten in the way 😥

Feeling a little less enthusiastic as a result about Nat Champs right now because of the big miles and climbing. Am getting there Thursday though so breaking practice into the two days but think I’ll feel it in the legs on race day still!

Haven’t quite decided whether I’m doing Welsh Champs yet. Might depend upon how Nat Champs goes!

Not lift shared myself but did manage a lift sharing scheme for a while. If you can find someone to share with then it can work great and save a fair amount of money. Good way to make new friends or business contacts too if you’re that way inclined.

The main issue I found when running a scheme is people can be a little put off offering regular lifts by the rare ‘what if’ scenarios e.g. what if I have to go shopping on the way home, what if I have to leave early, so are more reluctant to offer lifts. Works better (if an employers internal scheme) if people work regular hours rather than shifts/flexi.

For wider schemes, check out Liftshare or Bla Bla Car though be aware that people sign up for these things and then don’t always bother to reply! When I broke my collarbone a few years ago and couldn’t ride to work, there were some people near me advertising lifts but they never replied to my requests annoyingly!

If you can sort out an informal arrangement with more than one person to give you some options if someone does have something crop up, then you won’t be left stranded. Some employers will offer an emergency taxi home if needed – does your employer run a scheme.

Also replaced with brass nips on mine as well. Once they started breaking, it felt never ending.

Also replaced all the spokes on my wheelset. Apparently the stock spokes were an unusually narrow gauge presumably to keep the weight low. Wheelset is now stronger and more reliable. A bit heavier no doubt, but not noticeably.

Also had the loose DS pedal insert of doom on mine. Fortunately living near Silverfish, they sorted out replacement crank arms in a couple of hours but I also took the opportunity to strip down the bike and get bearings and forks serviced, so I’ve been several weeks bikeless. All back now and raring to ride!

Seem to remember the helicopter circling around Stage 3 last year on the Sunday whilst I was out I think?

Bit harsh nobeerinthefridge. Things can change a hell of a lot in the 10 months between entering and racing. A mate of mine had to pull out of last year’s because he found out a month later he was becoming a dad around race date.

Had mine for 18 months. Just stripped it down…5 bearings seized, a couple gritty and the rest smooth still. Going to replace them all though.

Used to have a Mule, then had an Osprey Raptor, now got a Camelbak Skyline. Doesn’t have a rain cover but as above, low-down weight is great and doesn’t move about. Really like it.

Review on my blog if it’s of any help 🙂

There was a segment on a vid, pretty sure with Cedric Gracia, and the backing track was a remix of Seven Nation Army by AMP Army. Can’t remember the vid but that was a rad one at the time

Cheers folks. Doesn’t sound too bad so will crack on with it once I get the bearings sourced 🙂

Just to add to it ( I should update the review), I’ve not had the crashing issue since.

Ahhhh…nothing like a new Orange bike announcement to get the forum debate going. Again.

There can’t be another bike manufacturer that divides opinion so much (apart from maybe On One, but probably less so lately). 😆

if you can find them, these are great: http://www.tredz.co.uk/.Sahmurai-Sword-Tubeless-Tyre-Plugs_85836.htm

you could of bodge your own.

I have fitted them to my tubeless bike in France and means Ive got something to help out me or a friend if we cut a tyre in the Alps. This especially as I tend to ride with minimum kit.

I got a set of these for Christmas but was a bit disappointed as they are too tight a fit in my bars. I reviewed them on my blog recently.

Some of the films have been interesting. There is a lot of older content but it’s watchable if you have some time to spare.

I see they’re currently advertising following the ‘craziest family in mountain biking’ with The Atherton Project…coming soon. 😆

Don’t for get the Southern Enduro Champs is in the south west.

Yeah, on the verge of signing up for the Southern Champs. Wasn’t initially going to do it as it fell smack bang on Easter weekend and right between BES rounds 1 and 2, so not very family friendly for me!

Southwest Gravity Enduro are now looking to get something going in Cornwall for the summer so that’s great news.

After talks with Simon’s timing guy and man behind Mini Enduro, 4X Pro Tour and Mini Downhill, Chris Roberts, we have some good news when it comes to the running of what was to be the Dyfi BES round. Chris and Charlie Williams (the man behind Welsh Gravity Enduro) are still going to run the Dyfi round on the same date as the planned BES; this will be the Welsh EWS feeder round on May 20/21.
