Just got an email to say the Whyte Friston I ordered and delivered to my nearest store (still 100 miles away!) is ready for collection. Think I’ll be taking tomorrow afternoon off to go get it 😀

Cheers fellas.

Got a Genesis CdF but it’s day job is for the commute with full length guards and road tyres and changing it to ‘CX/gravel’ mode for a ride then back is a chore. The Friston seems ideal to slot in between that and my enduro bike for local of-road less tech miles. Very tempted.

Currently considering getting one of these…any feedback good or bad from current owners?

That black pole sticking out the back of that Indycar can’t be very aero 😉

Can’t believe the fuss over the Halo, particularly in terms of the ‘look’. The cars still won’t be as ugly as when they had all the winglets 10 years or so ago. As long as the cars are fast, racing is close and drivers are safe, then that’s the most important thing IMHO.

If anyone’s interested in a read, a couple of XC type race/ride reports have gone up on my blog this week.

Normally race enduro but it’s good to mix things up a bit eh! 😀

Liking my Pearl Izumi Cargo base layer. You would have to stick any bolts in a sealed bag but otherwise it would carry those basics you mention without issue.

Review on my blog if you’re interested 🙂

Got round to putting my thoughts down on the Pearl Izumi base layer I mentioned earlier…

…take a look at the review on my blog for a see if you’re interested 🙂

If riding the coastal path, the main thing to bear in mind (apart from taking it easy on more exposed parts), is we’re now coming into tourist season so there are more walkers using it. Some narrow sections can be more tricky to let walkers past and some might have a word with you…most local walkers don’t have a problem with bikes but the tourist walkers do more often!

Basically at this time of the year, keep it to early mornings and evenings or weekedays. And don’t be a dick. 🙂

Standover doesn’t look great but maybe that’s an optical illusion.

At 5’8″ and 32″ inseam, my medium R4 Rallon is fine for me. Going by the figures, this new R5 Rallon has lower standover clearance in the small and is still marginally lower in the large than my medium so should be ok if you’re similar proportions.

Wore my new Pearl Izumi Cargo mesh base layer yesterday under my summer jersey for a few hours riding in high twenty temps. Wore it mainly as I wanted to ride packless for the first half of the ride and carry some tools and thought I might cook but it was actually fine.

Didn’t cook (didn’t feel cool either, but it was chuffing hot!) and although my jersey was wet at the end, I felt dry underneath.

Welcome to 2011!

I’m on it. Was a big fan of it and was much better than FB when it began. FB then copied some features (not as well) and the hoped mass migration never happened. My feed is still very busy with MTBers and other cyclists but I don’t post anywhere near as much as I used to – just links to my blog posts nowadays.

Been looking for similar lately and the Sonder Camino alloy is appealing.

Carbon fork, 1×11, hydraulic brakes, tubeless rims – ticks all the boxes. Not keen on the paint jobs though 😕 There’s also a 2×11 Shimano 105 build for the same price but with cable disks.

Doesn’t matter that you were on a Cotic, as they’re good folks there anyway and I’m sure would’ve done it no matter what you were riding 🙂

May take a peek. Don’t think it will feel right without Rob and Claudio though

Is it not the same Red Bull feed? I watched the XC race last weekend on Bike for the first time and it was Warner co-commentating so presume it’s the same feed?

Had accessories only package a couple of times. Had gloves, SPD shoes, padded undershorts, gilet and waterproof jacket. Doesn’t have to be reflective from my experience.

Yeah I have seen the accessories package described as “safety equipment”, which surely brings in body armour, maybe glasses?

It’s supposed to be kit you’d need for riding comfortably to work…so getting body armour wouldn’t be in the spirit of it!

I had 2 pairs of M200 shoes fail last year (not bonding related) and Wiggle replaced them both with no hassle. I did clean/wipe them before sending them back but as above, should be irrelevant if they’re a bit dusty as that’s not the big issue there! Keep on at them…!

Been using a Maxxis Tomahawk Double Down on the rear the last few weeks and very happy with it on my dry dusty rocky trails.

Check out RAD8 MTB Glasses.

Being upfront, I’m on the brand ambassador/test team, but they do genuinely work very well in changing light conditions (fully clear to very dark) and aren’t as pricey as Oakleys etc. Optics are very good too.

Fair enough, thought Steve had it. So Steve needs a new name for the new series…

How about British Enduro Series or UK Enduro Series? 😆

orena45
Full Member

The main thing that struck me was that Charlie and Steve ran UKGE together didn’t they? I thought Steve was the owner of UKGE and it’s brand, social media channels etc?

Now Charlie appears to be objecting to Steve’s press release using the term ‘gravity enduro’ and doing it from the UKGE Twitter feed (also on Dirt mag’s FB post in the comments section)…so are Charlie and Steve no longer working together and Charlie now owns the brand and name etc?

Great to hear we’ll have a national series again, I just really hope it works and doesn’t fold after a year.

As mentioned above, there are several really good regional series now (none in the southwest yet though 😥 ) which cater for the beginner and mid-level racers and that is probably enough for people who take part. It’s going to be tough to attract those people to UKGE, which is needed to help Steve etc cover organisation costs. When UKGE was in its prime, there wasn’t much competition but there is now, so I think they’re going to have think carefully how to market and afford the series to make it a success.

I was hoping for a combo of the regional series to make a national one for next year, but hope we don’t end up with a mess again! That said, UKGE will likely be at the top of list for next year’s racing now.

Will be interesting to see what unfolds!

For some reason, I just haven’t been feeling it for Welsh Champs and I don’t really know why. I love the riding at Dyfi and I know Charlie puts on a good race but I guess it’s mainly because having the Southern Champs and National Champs so close before, the cost of another race weekend plus another BH weekend away from the family is the main reason.

If it was a month or two later, I’d have been more on it I think!

Woody’s Bike Park – not open yet but is soon. I’ve only seen what’s been posted up online or what was in Slice of British Pie 2. There’s supposed to be some stuff for us mortals in there too though 😆

Lanydrock has some good beginner trails and a skills area. Also has a dual track.

We’re severely lacking in pump tracks in Cornwall but there is a free one down at Penryn, access off Lamb’s Lane.

Otherwise there’s The Track near Portreath with a pump track and BMX track as well as dirt jumps, or Falmouth Bike Park.

Cardinham Woods (near Lanydrock) is good for a blast or for more nature, tech trails, head to Grogley Woods near Bodmin.
