It would be great if it sell out quick but we have 400 entries for the champs so I can’t see them all going on Saturday but I have been proved wrong before when it come to ticket sales.

On a purely selfish level, fingers crossed you don’t sell out before December pay day! I’ll be keeping an eye out on the FB page for a pre-sold out warning though just in case!

I did look at doing a SW series but the logistics didn’t work. The venues are there but would need to partner with a local if I ever did it, a bit like the Welsh enduro series is set up

    have you met chaz?

Think Chaz has floated the idea of an enduro at Gawton & Tavi Woodlands in the past. Teaming up with the Cornish Trail Pixies is another option…Grogley and Bishop’s/Hustyn near Bodmin has hosted Enduro1 previously. Something for 2019 further southwest would be awesome if doable.

Southern Champs was one of my favourite races this year! – check out my race report.

Also did the first round of the Southern Enduro series (race report here), which was also good.

I had full intention of doing the series this year, particularly after BES folded, but being down the bottom end of Cornwall, the reality of travelling the south and south east for a single day race, just wasn’t financially feasible for me in the end, which was a shame. Even getting to round 1, my nearest, was still over 4 hours of driving each way.

Definitely want to do Southern Champs again, if only for the loam (guaranteed again next year right Scotfitz?! 😉 ), but I really wish it wan’t going live for another month as my bank account hasn’t recovered from Ard Rock, local DH and British National Champs entries this month 😥

Is there one full Suss out there that is bombproof for our riding conditions

That Deviate on the front page has potential…

Have you seen the Kitnetik hanger?

Hangs all your kit on a magnetic hanger which you can attach to a radiator, or hang up near a heat source..

@nicolaisam – give me a shout when you’ve got it built up and we can hook up for a ride. Not that I’m itching to see it or owt 😉

P.S. you’re gonna have to change your name on here now ha!

Ha, me too, although I’d prefer it to stay dry like at the moment…it looks best when clean 8)

Great review Doug, the R5 sounds as good as it looks. If it wasn’t for the fact I still love my R4, I’d be saving the pennies for one!

Really pleased with my Madison Addict shorts after a year. Now rebranded as the Zenith…the waterproof arse is great and keeps your backend nice and dry without the rest of your lower end overheating.

Review on my blog if you’re interested 🙂

Got there in the end, although in the Sport Enduro rather than the main one. Running behind on the school run now 😯

2 entries is too many apparently!

Not in…was refreshing then in on the dot but it wouldn’t allocate 2 tickets for the main enduro straight away and then sold out a few seconds later! Tried for the Sport Enduro straight away, same thing (2 to tickets being too high), then sold out seconds later!

    New Pearl Izumi Versa trousers?

No experience of them but worth a look. Pinkbike just gave them a good review.

Charre met all the requirements to go to the World Champs but the FFC decided to be c**ts for no reason

Yeah that what I meant in that should couldn’t make the team – through governing body politics rather that her riding. EWS should be free of all that?

Did it last year and wanted to do it again this year but I’ve just had to spunk a load of money on new SRAM transmission so don’t have the money for it now 🙁

Did a race report on my blog last year (which ended up being plagiarised by a fellow racer much to my annoyance). Might help give you an idea of the day.

Morgane Charre switching to EWS? Not matched her World Champs result in DH since and couldn’t even make the French National team at the last DH World Champs, but did well at Finale last weekend.

She might be tempted to go enduro…though maybe not if Rachel Atherton did also switch!

Thanks for the info, these look promising and a much more sensible price. The problem I have with these one strap systems is everything including multi-tool etc will get covered in mud and wet and therefore eventually get rusty.

He is currently trialling one with a pouch integrated into the strap… I’ll be testing it at a local enduro race next weekend and feeding back.

I’ve just been trying out the MTBstrapon strap. Similar to the Back Country Research strap but available in custom colours…and actually available. Review just gone up on my blog.

I also use a stash base layer from Pearl Izumi (Blog review here) which works well.

So he’s a top bloke and a great chap but dose he fix creaky forks safely ?

Yes he does. Very experienced in MTB suspension so absolutely no worries.

Good review Orena- any advice on sizing- I’m tempted but at a smidge over 6ft I’m on the cusp of 56 and 58

    Cheers pop 🙂

Hmmm…difficult one. I’m 5’8″ so right between the 52 and the 54, and got the 54. I’d probably say go for the 56 unless perhaps you’re long in the torso or arms..

Just put up my thoughts on my blog of the Whyte Friston. Will update further down the line as I wear it in more through the winter! 🙂

The E Thirteen cassette with 9-44 range fits an XD Driver.

£205 isn’t cheap by any means, but you can buy the two halves seperately when one or the other wears out. Whether that’s cost effective down the line, I’m not sure

    Edit: beaten to it^^^

Not had that problem, but know Dave at RSF. Top bloke who’s great at fixing people’s cock ups as well as servicing. Whatever’s wrong with a fork or shock, he can pretty much fix it and at a reasonable cost too.

Mucky Nutz? Were they the first to produce that type of mudguard? I’m sure Marshguard came out just after?

Mudhugger too perhaps for their longer guards?

    Orange – innovative frame designs

I think one or two people on here will disagree with that! (Not me, I like Orange Bikes)

Edit – but to fend it off, lets not dominate this thread with the usual STW Orange bashing!

The last time the BBC showed the World Champs, Peaty won. So hopefully that’s a good sign for the Brits!

Edit: I’m talking BS…that was when he won at Fort Bill on the Orange 😕

I started my blog using Blogger (I’m also in the Google ecosystem) but after trying WordPress, I much preferred that – better templates and easier to write and upload using a mobile device.

Take a look at mine for some ideas – orena45blog 🙂

A few of us from the southwest are off to Afan coincidentally on the weekend of the shop/cafe closure.

Rough idea is Cwmcarn Friday, Afan Saturday and BPW Sunday and W2 at Afan. However a couple of those coming know some of the off piste stuff at Afan so we might do a mix of trail centre and the other stuff. Looking forward to it but a shame to hear the cafe is closing – wonder if any decent bargains will still be there or whether it’ll be a mix of leftover 580mm bars and 120mm stems!

Looks like the frame snap occured from the impact with the wooden post after he lost control..?

I agree the coverage is very shite really, I remember in one of the recent races they had gate coverage and then you next saw the rider 2mins into a run!

The riders set off every 30 seconds or so I think (longer gaps for the final riders) so it’s not possible to watch everyone’s full runs. They show them leaving the gate a minute or two earlier then cut to the live feed as they descend towards the end of the track. Rinse and repeat for 80 or so riders or whatever the UCI have cut it down to now.

Friston sounds like just what you’re after. Done a few 20-30 mile rides on mine now on a mix of road, dirt paths and bumpy tracks and loving it!

40c tyres give a lot of comfort and handles well off road bit zips along nicely on the hard stuff. Double Tap 1×11 takes a bit of getting used to if coming from Shimano but I’m getting the hang of it!

Yep I get this every year too. Commute miles drop off due to taking days off on annual leave and MTB mileage drops off for the reasons Rocketdog mentions. Also, the last few years, July and August has generally been crap for the weather.

Back on it from next month no doubt!

Got a Genesis CdF and just got a Whyte Friston, 1st ride today on it. Very pleased with it so far, was quick on the smoothish paths and bridleways and good on the road. 480mm bars feel very wide (500mm on the 2018 spec 😯 ) but combined with tubeless set up and the carbon fork, feels very confident off road.
