1000 miles is pretty shit given the cost.

I should clarify that the front one was still holding air fine…it was the rear that wasn’t. Changed both as I can’t stand having mismatched branded tyres on a bike and everyone I know was raving about the Resolute 😀

As the Rambler came stock on the bike, the cost is irrelevant to me but if the Resolutes only last that long, then I’ll be miffed. May go back to Ramblers into the summer though, overall, I got on well with them.

even better when they’re free 🙂

Indeed. Shame we couldn’t get another pair 😀

Second this, loved my pair.  Had to chuck them a few months ago as I wore a hole through them I used them so much!  PI do a decent range of relaxed look riding kit so worth having a look.

Loved the Ramblers on my Friston – found them nice and fast on road and grippy enough on anything mud sticky mud. Just replaced them after over a 1000 miles as the rear was no longer holding air – tiny leaks all over the place.

Replaced with WTB Resolute 42c – all 6 of our Whatsapp gravel group are now using them.  Doesn’t roll quite as well as the Rambler on road but not found it to be too draggy considering the knobs.  We do tend to ride them like MTBs so stay off-road as much as possible – fine gravel Sustrans trails, hard pack coastal paths and stoney bridleways.  The Resolutes are a bit better suited as a result, plus with a bit more volume.

Awesome stuff, congrats on the 3rd place!

The Ex is an event I’d love to do – this and the Southern Enduro Champs are the closest enduro races to me in Cornwall – but I just can’t bring myself to pay so much ££ to do it!

Ha! Thinking 7am start and be finished by 11.30am at latest. Could aim for a sunrise start which seems to be about 6.15am.

What do you reckon is a realistic time roughly for that route with Keppel cove going up? Got 5hrs at a push I guess!

Off up the area for a family break this weekend and wondering weather I can sneak an early morning ride in seeing as my wife and daughter barely move out of bed before lunch time.

What are the conditions like at the moment…still dry?  After reading this thread, thinking of going up Dolly Wagon from Patterdale (or Keppel Cove from Glenridding) to Helvellyn and down Sticks Pass and Seldom Scene.

    Doable in 4 hours?

I’ve got one (R4). Had it for 3 years and still love it.

Hoping to get an R5 soonish though.

Wow, that’s a lot of bikes nabbed in one weekend 🙁

Yep, clothing/safety equipment only on C2W is fine, done it a couple of times now through local bike shops and (shock horror), Tredz. Will do it again later this year as well.

I’ve just unsubscribed having been a print subscriber for a few years.  Less product reviews, and foreign travel ride articles that I can’t relate to, means I’m just flicking through and maybe reading them when I’m bored.  Certainly haven’t been eager to read the mag when it drops through the letter box these past few months…although I was still getting enjoyment from the smell of it!

Trenmenheere Sculpture Gardens are also nice for a walk around and just outside ‘Menzpants’.  Nice cafe/restaurant too.

Go see the Rogue Theatre with their outdoor summer performance at Tehidy Woods…great story telling and family friendly. We go see most of their shows and love them…off next week for one of the evening performances.

My local dealer, Unit Cycles (Cornwall), has a large red one due in stock tomorrow apparently.

Actually, I’m guessing you’re the Edward that Ant at the shop has replied to on the Rallon FB group??

Came up for a quick razz in the Lite race on Sunday, stages 5-7 were as rad as I remembered from last year and enjoyed the new stage 4 too. Had a lot of fun racing blind and surprisingly finished 4th, which was nice.

Race report now up on my blog if anyone fancies a read.

I’ll be there but due to a family commitment, I’m doing the Lite enduro instead of the full fat one. And I can’t get there til Sunday morning so will be riding it blind…as enduros should be 😉

Hopefully see ya there Kimbers 👍

@orena45. Just read your blog. Good wee write up. I don’t really understand the format of enduro but you described it well. So well infact it has pretty much confirmed I never want to do one!

    Ha, cheers 😂

Finally got around to posting up my race report from last weekend’s race…if anyone fancies a read, take a look over on my blog 😀

Had a great weekend, although race result wasn’t what I’d hoped…hopefully will make the long trip back again next year for one of their next races!

What sort of off-road are you looking for? And how will you be loaded up?

Plenty of bridleways down here to link up and even most footpaths are rideable…and no one really cares if you’re riding on them. Coastal path has some amazing singletrack but stay away during peak times i.e. daytime weekends, tourist season near tourist towns. Also, coastal path is hike a bike in many places so not ideal if you’re loaded up.

We’ve got some great riding in Cornwall, just needs some local knowhow. I’m never quite sure whether ‘northerners’ thinking we have nothing worth riding is a blessing or a curse 🤔

    Identiti AKA?

Designed for six fiddys but apparently 29er wheels will fit with a 120mm fork. It’s peaked my interest at the moment, just waiting for it to be released to hear more details.

    Thanks Kimbers!

Practiced the bottom third of Stage 3 today plus Stages 4, 5 and 6. Had a silly OTB on Stage 3, wasn’t feeling it on Stage 4 and only started to feel like I could ride a bike again on Stage 5. Stage 6 is short but fun, loving those final berms…could ride them all day!

Started thundering and raining as we finished Stage 6 so pegged it back to the house. Hoping the rain doesn’t affect the trails too much 😬

Practiced Stages 1-5 yeaterday at Inners and Golfie. Trails are running dry and fast though Stage 4 (FEAR) is a little damp and struggled a little for braking in a couple of points – soz to the photographer I nearly took out!

Going to practice 2 or 3 stages again today and then do Stage 6. Really want to practice them all again but need to save some energy for the race.

Very jealous of the locals who get to ride this whenever they want… there’s nothing as long and steep like this home in Cornwall!

Looking forward to heading up this weekend. Not looking forward to an hour and a half on the train and 8 hours in the car to get there!

Not ridden any of the trails before…thought it was going to be a big loop going by the mileage but a fair chunk of that is the flat(?) transfer from Peebles by the looks of it. Still a lot of climbing though!

Been a subscriber for a few years but have been thinking of cancelling recently.  The last few mags have been pretty much longer story articles which I’ve always struggled to read and to be honest, I just don’t have the attention span to read those type of articles anymore #millenial

Wasn’t the mmbop the much unloved runt of the litter in comparison to the steel-is-real blue pig, at least until it was extremely heavily discounted,  upon which people began to rave about the frame, it’s feathery weight and it’s space age construction material?

Pretty much! I seem to remember the Blue Pig was much more popular, especially on here.

Certainly got mine when it was heavily discounted on CRC and fortunately it turned out to be a great bike for me at the time.  Wasn’t much of a looker admittedly with the big diameter tubes and 1.5″ bean tin headtube!

Just found a photo I can link to from when I first built mine up on the cheap..

I had a first gen MmmBop and loved it.  For me it was the first ‘longer, slacker, lower’ bike I had and it rendered my 2008 Trek Fuel EX (which I loved) as an expensive airer in the shed – I just never rode it after I got that bike.  Ended up getting an Orange Five a couple years later only because wanted some comfort at the back.  Still kinda miss it, and keep thinking about getting a hardtail again.

Anyone remember the full-suss bikes Ragely showcased at the trade shows, then mysteriously dropped (around 2011 maybe)?  Really lusted after the 140mm travel one so was disappointed when it didn’t get released.

    Cheers @matterby you 👍

Yeah glad to hear 6 feet is staying open, such a nice addition. I’ll be doing Eastridge as well. Never ridden there so will be good to race a new-to-me venue.

Interesting to hear BKXC lost one @thunderwingdoomslayer, I’ve not heard of anyone else losing theirs before. Certainly will keep an eye on it more now.

    @spev
    – yeah noticed the Vets cat was quite large. I’ve got a couple more years in Masters before moving up so I’m starting to keep an eye on them to see where I might fit in ha!

I had a Giro Hex years ago that fitted great. Bought a Montaro at the start of winter in medium but it was too small so replaced it with a large. With my Buff on, the large fits fine but with it off, it’s a bit too loose I’m now discovering. Fine when standing but as soon as I’m riding, every little bump makes it tip forward. I’ve cut a headband out of an old Buff for now but I might have to get rid of it if it’s too annoying.

Great helmet otherwise, I like the big visor and it’s great that you can move it up right out of the way but I would definitely double check sizing if, like me, you’re in between sizes.

Above your budget, but Rad8 MTB Glasses are worth a look.  I think there’s a STW Premier discount code so would drop a few quid off the price though.

There’s a review of the 502 frames on my blog if it’s of any use

For clarity, I’m a brand ambassador for Rad8 but my blog content is independent so there’s genuinely no lies or tarting up of what I say…just my own honest opinions 🙂

I think poor cycle provision as often seen in Edinburgh actually increases risks.

Scotland has it’s own cycle design standard guidelines
