Have a look at the data in zero friction cycling. I don’t think there’s anything between them.

Just thinking about chain and cassette, this is an interesting one. Current “best” practice to maximise component life is thought to be hot melt wax and rotate 2 or 3 chains. Replace chains at 0.5% and that should allow 2 or 3 batches of chains across a cassette.

However, zero friction cycling recently discovered some interesting stuff on the SRAM site about 0.8% wear. He’s waiting for clarification from SRAM on this but current working theory is that the T-type chain is so durable that it will last as long as the cassette. 0.8% sounds like running them together to the death

Could be the solvent in the adhesive that has removed the lacquer from the rim. Had similar with a set of carbon bars and glue on grips

With budget in mind, I recently considered the 359 Vs the Hope and was quite keen to try the 350. However, what stopped me was that, compared to Hope, there are fewer options. Couldn’t find a 142×12 6 bolt microspline DT.

Decided to keep saving for another set of Onyx Vesper hubs. Silent, well sealed and so little drag.

If you want a nimble all rounder and aren’t wedded to the idea of the latest greatest long low slack geometry, and a bargain to boot, ask me about the Ibis Mojo HD3 medium green that I (the wife) has for sale.

Seems everyone has a sale. Think bib shorts might be about one of the hardest things to buy in line. Do the legs fit? Length, diameter? Waist? Height? Bloody nightmare

I thought it was just because I saw an early screening on opening day that it was just movie nerds because everyone stayed to the very end. Interesting to hear that is happening all over the place.

Having been one of the many owners of RaceFace sixc carbon cranks, I’m unlikely to trust carbon cranks again in a hurry.

My personal rule for RF is nothing with moving parts (ask their bottom bracket owners and my atlas pedals were shite) and nothing where two materials meet (like their cranks)

Their turbine alloy cranks, stems, bars etc are fine.

What end of the gravel spectrum are you aiming with the geometry?

I wasn’t really thinking about price when I started this thread. It was more about the coverage, level of protection and to some extent, the advanced technology. The slip plain in my first helmet was the lycra cover. Most of the time, I’m not riding anything different from what I did 30 years ago, a bit faster I hope, but not fundamentally different. However, I started in a lid that barely reached my ears. I’m now pondering something like a Dropframe and possibly a Proframe.

Depends on the model year of the revelation. The Yari is a cheap Lyrik, the revelation is a cheap pike.

However, early revelations were 32mm forks.

It’s worth a trip to the cinema, then rewatch it on Disney plus

@kiwijohn there is some variance. I have a standard threaded EDC, with storage tube in my 2023 fix factory 38. It’s snug, but it doesn’t rattle.

Actually, the US firearms analogy isn’t one I’d considered before, but it’s a really good one.

One of the best things I’ve seen from GCN in some time. It’s normally all infomercial or advertorial. As about, nothing new for people at this end of things and unfortunately, unlikely to ever be seen by people at the other end.

@ricko1984 I’ve tried replying but no idea if this platform is letting all messages through. I’m near J29A/30 of the M1

Not only are higher cassette cog numbers more sensitive to hanger alignment but I believe that wide range cassettes put more leverage on that hanger so they’re more likely to go out of true.

Not uncommon for smaller businesses. They might well have an account at the supplier in 30 day terms but cash flow is what really kills off smaller businesses.

Having said that, I’m pretty sure we’ve paid for materials when he’s turned up with them.

That’s what I’m pondering. I don’t make a habit of crashing, I guess not many of us do. Like all risk, it’s likelihood x severity. While the likelihood is low, severity could be fatal.

I was pondering a ¾ shell but once you’ve gone that far, why not go full face given that they seem pretty light and airy these days.

You’ll certainly find yourself laughing at the violence.

Also find yourself laughing right for the start. It’s hilariously self aware

No, not violent at all. I don’t think there’s a single drop of blood spilled.*

*The above might be complete bollocks.

Where are you based? I have the same bike with spare wheels.

I’ve put an Ergon Core SRbon my bike which I really like. Depends if you get on with flat saddles

Of course it gives you nothing over 11, I wouldn’t expect it to. It’s my bike ?

12 speed is an unnecessary pile of ass on MTBs and likely worse on a gravel bike. But I get that there’s little choice when buying new.

Camino GRX is available 2x and 1x. OP hasn’t confirmed which it is.

Although my 1×12 seems like the perfect spread for me. The chain retention benefits and improved ground clearance are useful when riding Peak District stuff that I should really have taken the hardtail for.

Alpha, or Nova hubs? I had some issues with a Nova hub on the 1×12 GRX. Turns out, my Nova hub internals were different from every other Nova hub in existence

Thanks all,  It’s for a week in the mountains in November so I’ll be taking a lot of cycling kit to cover the possibility of lots of wet days.  Might try stuffing it all in the cabin bag if it was a week of summer road riding though.  Looks like it might end up being business class.  Other providers don’t seem to offer very convenient flight times either.

Those bike prices seem reasonable as it seems BA will be £130 each way.

Worrying hearing stories like that, but when the other options are Veuling, easyJet or Ryanair, what do you do?

2×23 not an option for this trip. Had considered only one of us going business class. Suppose we could do one leg each.

    Onzadog

Cheers, I’m aware that business class get 2x32kg which would do the trick.  However, there’s quite a price difference.  If I can take a bike between 23kg nd 32kg for £65 each way, I’m happy.  If that bike cost £130 each way because it’s £65 for the 2nd bag and £65 for being over weight, then a business class ticket makes sense.

£130 each way for the bike, compared to £120 round trip for me.  I weight more than 32kg.  Shame I can’t just buy a seat for the bike.

I think carnivores poo Vs herbivores poo is the big separation.

    And sheep poo is WYSIWYG.

Cow poo on the other hand, is a different matter. Ah, okay, looks dry and solid. Nope, just a crust to lull you into a false sense of security.

All of the reconstituted grass versions are just part and parcel of being in the countryside

They are awesome bikes (especially in raw). I’ve repeatedly summed mine up as “silly”. Usually at the bottom of something big and rocky

Best thing for removing it is a block of natural rubber/crepe. Comes off a treat.

Thanks all. Looks like I should trial packing it before I buy a lovely new bike box. Not taken the bike abroad since pre COVID but spinning the forks seems rather obvious now it’s been said out loud.

I went through the selection process for LNER and Northern not that long ago. The assesment centre day was grueling but I was pretty chuffed at getting though for both companies.

You then sit in a talent pool until they run the next course.

Even if you pass the course, there’s no guarantee of a job at the end of it.

Think I dodged a bullet actually as the companies seemed disorganised. I was asked my notice period, which was 3 months. Few weeks later I was offered a start in 4 weeks. I had to decline. Then a month later, offered another starting in 3 weeks.

Consider every other component on your bike and how it’s changed in the last 30 year. Now think about the SPD. Hardly changed at all and with good reason.
