Which reminds me to order some.

What weights(?) is one supposed to use in Rev's – it's 5wt and 15wt isn't it? (For some reason I've only got 7.5wt at home).

The one at the top is. Did he have a crown race on his Trek?

    MARC BOLAN??????

    TJ – your standards, please!

What happened to the Swede and his table / crown race experiment? Did he combine the two and disappear into an unexpected black hole?

As above but also have an audi!

Recently bought a s/s rear wheel, it was delayed but I was kept fully informed – so no complaints there. Have used in the recent foul conditions with no problems yet, but it is early days yet.

    With or without headset?

I wish Coitc hadn't sent the tempting email out!

I really want to say that Sodas are far far better than Hummers, but I'd be basing it on the following "facts":

    1. I used to have a Soda, it was the best bike I've owned and I wish I still had it;

    2. I knew a guy with a Hummer and he was a complete tw*t.

Which is hardly scientific, I suppose.

We're still trying to help young Mackem out with an infomative and definitive answer.

Embonpoint – excellent word usage there. You can tell this is a high quality thread.

So who won the clown race? I missed it.

Wish I could settle to a tyre. I like the Speed Kings, but they are far too puncture prone. NN's tend to shred too easily on the flints, and I haven't found them very good in deep mud (all we have round these parts, although did someone above say it was going to dry out this year?!).

Trying out an ACX but finding it heavy after the Speed Kings, but I suppose it would be.

May try some Ignitors in the summer – if it ever comes…..

For me, the GT Nearly New was the funniest. This is slightly behind, but I'm glad to see it back.

Can't stand football but am also one of those types for whom sitting watching sports equals to just a great amount of torture.

Been away from STW a few days and this is languishing 3 pages back! Mr Swede, what were you thinking?!!

+1 to the Jenn Hopkins Great Divide one (best article yet in my opinion), and there was the Fish Out Of Water one where the two guys built their own bike frames with Dave Yates. No idea which issue though, probably 30-ish?

Did the washing machine come with a crown race?

    Definitely not OCD here.

Point hose – quick go with brush – oil chain. Mostly looks OK afterwards, except the chain – without getting all obsessive with a toothbrush or getting one of those frankly scary-weird plastic machines with brushes inside that I find oddly unsettling, I've never found a way of getting the crap off the chain that fits my patience quotient.

Run a few sets. Never had any problems with chain suck or unexpected wear. Good as far as my experience goes – I wouldn't look at anything else in future.

Judy butter and red rum lubricant as I'm building up to the rite of passage that is servicing my own forks. I feel that there's a fair bit more building up to be done yet though, mind. The exciting bit's next – some circlip pliers. Woohoo!

I don't believe that Herts is EVER going to dry out again. It's been saturated too much.

Victim of a frame-up by the authorities! Crown race! Crown race!

igm – only if it's proven to be discriminating against the crowns. But I think we're OK as it's threadless.

Why were you looking for an owl picture? When you buy an owl do they come with headsets?

Thanks Wally. I suspect the first one will be a pantomime of lost parts, stress and a couple of clowns with custard pies, then after that it will become quite satisfying. Cheers

    Very helpful.

They describe a number of steps – what do you regard as a normal serivce on a set of Revs, all the bushings and springs etc described or just removal of lowers and change of oil / clean-up etc?

Will there be clowns on page 6 too?

Warrenpfo – if those were white painted arrows and numbers, Oxfordshire county seems to favour that method of waymarking footpaths and bridleways rather than metal discs (and very helpful it is too in woods). If they are what you mean, they're not a trail system other than the standard ROWs.

majk – a few of us off here have just started night-riding midweek; most are based around Watford / Bushey and we tend to ride around Chenies / Saratt area, so may be a bit out of your area. Let me know though if you may be interested.

Majk I'm Chesham way and was out on Wednesday night – it was a ridiculous clagfest, especially up around the woods near Latimer – just could not ride downhill despite standing on the pedals.

I usually run a Trailraker at the back – it is heavy, mind. I have a Mud-X waiting to be put on (now would seem to be the time to do it!), so can't compare just yet, but did get my s/s running again this week on which I'm trying out an ACX, but that seemed to get overwhelmed as well.

I personally don't get on with Schwalbe at the back, I'm fairly heavy and the flints just rip them up; tried SpeedKings but punctures were stupid and they seem to fold underneath the bike on corners in the wet.

Riding tomorrow morning, I'd just like to find somewhere that isn't the consistency of porridge.

    Thanks. Will ask my uncle.

Scottchegg – who was your great-uncle with? My uncle was also one of the first in, he was a tank driver and similar to yours in terms of the stories.
