Out of interest, does anyone run carbon fatbike rims?

Hmmmm. Drawing a complete blank here…….although if we squeeze the 5miles up slightly, does having the designer of the Mosquito’s house count? That’s it, really.

Edit: just read P-Jay’s post, Roald Dahl lived down the road! Got one!!

Amazing. Crashing round the spooky fields behind us at 3.30, remarkable. Annoyed with myself though as I couldn’t remember how to turn off the auto mode on either camera and so they refused to take a shot – too dark!! Fool.

You lot are all weird getting uptight about a bit of creaking. It’s just your bike communicating with you. My bikes creak and groan constantly.

I do try very hard not to use our car, it’s really an occasional bike carrier to be honest, probably gets used once a week / fortnight which I think is enough. Walk / ride for local stuff and train for further afield.

However, I am fairly horrified at this news, it is a VAG diesel and I am appalled at the damage I could have been doing. Will have to think about what we do though now as I swore long ago never to own another hateful bloody petrol powered car.

Tillydog – see my post above. I firmly believe that every PE teacher post in the country in the 70’s and 80’s absolutely required the candidate to be a complete sadist. Possibly still the case today, who knows?

Good man. Very best wishes. Recovering with “good margins” here too, although nothing like what you’ve been through. Keep it up.

Current A4 1.9 can only get 45mpg at very best (usually more like 40) and I’m a careful driver and it’s slower than the tide. Odd as the last one -virtually identical – could be really quick and would always get 50+. Cannot work it out.

Iain, you know if I didn’t live so far away and was in fact just a little bit more recovered I’d join you again at drumlanrig. Enjoy, and here’s to our ride next year!

You are what all this biking world is all about. Thank you for everything that you have done and what you are.

There’s a “about Jenn” stickie at the top of the forum.

Brilliant idea, thank you. How do we get the pictures to her?

Bitter, twisted PE teacher who laughed and joined in with the rest of the class chanting “weirdo” at me for the heinous crime of having a birthmark. I have a pathological loathing of schools to this day. He and his mate teacher also used to pick on the weaker kids at games and have them run round and round the fields when everyone else had gone in. How I utterly loathe that man. His twisted pal (famous for kicking kids from behind, very hard) was unsurprisingly done recently for abuse.

Only nearly 40 years ago but my blood is boiling again at the thought…….

Brilliant sir, thank you – getting ideas now about my big ride next year (hopefully).

And thanks for that mapping at the end – appreciated.

I had a lucky escape last night – have gone teetotal following a medical scare, my first out yesterday and we went for dinner at a pub where I remembered as we walked in it serves Landlord. Fortunately it was off and so I remain “on the wagon”…….

    Drac. Absolutely. Keep going everyone.

Wish I could have an adventure today, surgery has got in the way. Will save it for a few months time.

Many thanks. Interested in the route too as planning something big for next year when (hopefully) recovered but don’t use GPS -I’m a confirmed paper map user, so a rough description would be great, as and when.

If we must have winter, then please let us have some snow this year. Not a flake last winter.

Excellent post. Am interested in this – I have a second-hand Solaris too, it’s my go-to bike. Do you live somewhere where you have real mud? I think I read that Cy said they wouldn’t deal well with that, but would be interested to see. Always on the lookout for something that can keep me moving through the winter.

    Keep up the good work!

That sounds tough freeagent – kudos to you for getting through.

For me – getting the Big C diagnosis. Made doubly hard but having just got a fat bike that I cannot now ride…..

Physically, either walking the Pennine Way or completing a 100k Merida at Ruthin.

Ex-Mrs once said to a large group of friends and family ” he looks just like Donald Pleasance”. I didn’t know what he looked like so asked. “Short, fat, bald and ugly” came the reply.

And everyone knows the top put down: “fine…..”. There is officially no suitable reply to that one.
