Cool. So are the thick ones noticeably chunkier than the tld ones then? I was toying with the idea of giving them a go, but was concerned I might lose the feel of the thinner grip. I do suffer a little with hand buzz sometimes though, so a bit more squidge might be a good thing….does the mushroom section work as advertised then, that’s one of the main draws for me if it works to fight the buzz. It looks like the gum ones are only available in hard compound, bit of a bummer as I liked that colour, how hard are they compared to troy lees, noticeable difference, or should I stick with the soft? Cheers…

I run it standard direction, and I see no reason to mount it backwards as it shares the same side knobs as the dhf which is a bonafide cornering champ! It’s hard to say whether it rolls quicker than a dhf…I’d probably say it’s a touch slower due to it’s slightly toothier set up, but it’s minimal. It’s defo lighter than the equivalent HR2, which is one of the things that attracted me to it in the first place. There’s a great review on Blister gear review that’s worth a read too.

Yep. I really rate it up front, kinda an extreme highroller 2/minion dhf hybrid. Corners really aggressively, much better than a HR2 I found, but bites a bit harder under braking than a DHF especially if it’s a bit softer under tyre. I run a 2.3 3c with an ardent exo as my spring/summer set up, works sweet! Running a dual compound one on the back paired with a shorty up front through the winter too….Shorty really is a flipping excellent tyre though for anything but hardpack…

I just did mine too. Bit of a bitch getting the wraparound graphic the same on each leg!! Mine were slikgraphics ones and they had a dotted marking on the backing sheet showing centre of fork leg, problem was it was completely useless as a guide onece the decal was removed from it! I got mine looking pretty spot on in the end, but it took a while. I googled an image to copy and used a hairdryer when it wasn’t lined up quite right, I removed mine a good 4 times no problems. Make sure you clean down the legs with some ipa before you start. Good luck my friend….

Yep, I second the Csixx chainstay protector. Bit fiddly to fit, instructions are pretty cryptic!! But, once fitted, looks trick, silences the bike and mine looks brand new after 18 months!!

Hi, what mech are you running? Assuming chain length is right….I had a similar issues with my zee mech, had to adjust out the little bit of slack with b adjust screw. Too much though and shifting slows down a bit. Took a bit of patience to get it right. This was just using 11-36 cassette too. Heard one up needs a longer b adjust screw….

Yeah, they’re the impact 2 2014 models, but not vxi, they look nice, but tres expensive! They’re nice shoes, stiff, solid and very comfy, just a bit clumpy for xc excursions maybe? Great as a dh shoe though I reckon. Think I’m swaying towards the freerider elements model, looks more what I’m wanting from a shoe tbh. Do they size up the same as impacts? The 11 g fits me like a glove…well shoe, but you know what I mean! I could get an awesome deal on some freerider element vxi but not keen on the slick sole thang as I spend a lot of time scrabbling around in my local woods and they look sloppy! Is this the case?

Ditto, superstar one here too, running a 34 and very happy with it. Teeth nice and long, more so than RF ones I’d say. Not lost a chain yet running it with a Zee mech, including plenty of rough stuff, BPW blacks etc. I got mine for 20 quid I think with voucher code on Facebook.

Oh, and they’re running winter uplift schedule now for some reason, 9.30 til 4.15, bit of a bummer as it still costs the same and there’s still plenty of light at the mo….you’d think they’d wait until the clocks go back really….get there as early as you can mate.

Yeah, I’ve been several times now and have lucked in with dry n sunny conditions all but twice!! Time before last was so dry n dusty it was actually a bit sketchy on some of the faster trails, had a few drifts moments on sixtapod!! Blacks however were awesome! I was up there last Sunday after a week of proper ‘weather’ but it all rode great, plenty grippy, few splashy sections, but all the rock is surprisingly tenacious. Came into the rock drop on pork belly a bit hot n heavy, and thought I was a goner on the landing, but stuck like glue!! Basically blues n reds are fine whatever the weather, few roots on vicious valley , but easy enough to double up or skirt around. Blacks not too bad, but more mud as they are more natural. Half cut is a shit in the wet, I had to eject after my rear wheel slid out putting me off line and heading for a cuddle with a tree, I was running an ardent up back though!! It’s very clay…ey and steep, defo one best left for a dry day unless you like a challenge! 😆 Enjoy, it’ll be super fun as always.

Yeah, I see that, some seem to have the gap whilst others don’t. Bit strange, but I guess it’ll be ok, probably give silverfish a bell Monday, see what they say….Oh, also, one of my faceplate bolts is trying to round out, anyone know what size and best place to order replacements? Ti would be nice…

Yeah, cheers for the link househusband, that’s where I first got wind of the issue. I identified from the product number that mine was supposedly one of the affected stems and contacted Silverfish. Scott was who I spoke to, and he kindly sent me a new redesigned faceplate, that I received today. It is defo noticeably thicker, more substantial (and I guess heavier!?) Hoewever, once fitted, it seems not to align as well as the old one which mated snugly to the stem body with no gap. This one leaves a small gap, I can see a few bolt threads…Just a bit odd, like they’ve added the material to the inside of the clamp or something!!??

Hi guys, thanks to this post, I discovered that I had a ‘dodgy batch’stem faceplate too! Tbh, it’s had a year of pretty hard riding and has never given me any trouble, but after speaking to silverfish I received my new faceplate today. Only thing is, after fitting it, there is a mm or two of gap between it and the stem body, whereas it was a proper flush fit before?! Seems a bit strange as its supposed to be interlocking faceplate on thoses stems, reckon more stress to bolts too. Anyone else found this issue with the replacement faceplates? Gonna query it with silverfish on Monday methinks….

Yes please leeroybrown can you email it to my address in profile. Thanks dude. Might well go for the zee shifter then, it’s a good price to be sure.

Any idea about how the zee shifter stacks up? Heard it was maybe a bit plasticky, was thinking of maybe spending another tenner or so on a saint or xt unit for their ball bearingness. Maybe last longer?

I was thinking of selling my shifter and going shimano actually…prob zee or xt shadow plus. Either that or x9 type 2 can’t stretch to another xo! Not convinced by the carbon cage thong either as mine failed epically!

Hi, I’ve got an as new maxxis Aspen 2.25 Kevlar folder here you can have for £20 posted. I run one on the rear with an Ardent or Minion up front all summer and all year at trail centres. Awesome super speedy but suprisingly grippy tyre. Big volume too. Lemme know pal…

I don’t usually bother with too much bling either, the Dixon came with an co that I sold and bought the type 2 for same price online! Seen X9 for £55 on wiggle, but out of stock except short cage. Anyone got owt I might be interested in?

Thanks guys, yeah, I had shortened the chain by a link or two as I’d just gone 1x a few days before, but it was long enough with deflated shock on full squish, reckon I coulda gone a link or two less! Also, I was mid block not big big, so shoulda had some slack if anything. Any chance the clutch froze or something, not allowing for chain growth? Had a bit of clunking from it last week or two under heavy braking, could it be related? I’d Defo go a shorter cage next time and avoid carbon too, alloy arm woulda probably just bent! Tempted by Zee mech and maybe a saint shifter? Either that or go an X9, but short or mid?

I’ve got a lovely 2.25 maxxis Aspen folder, as new, yours for £22 posted. Awesome rear tyre, super fast, but rails really well with Ardent style shoulder knobs. I run one on the back paired with an Ardent or Minion most of the year.
