I’ve had this problem every time ive bought a new bike, takes a bit of adjustment to get right. I went for a longer ride on my new bike yesterday, same thing happened to me. New bike is longer than my others, plus ive put a longer stem on too as its an XC bike rather than a trail and I thought thats what you do with XC bikes!
I plan to shift spacers under the stem, if that doesnt work, I will buy a shorter stem. I also have 800mm bars so room to cut back if necessary.

On the plus side, since the first lockdown ended, I’ve worked every day pretty much. This year’s, work is increasing even more.
On the not so plus side, this means riding has dropped off, so pounds have been added. Or kilos. 5 of them to be precise.

Sounds as though you’ve bought a perfect bike for most of your normal riding.
You’ll definitely get away with using a Chisel in Surrey, as an occasional extra to your local riding. And if you do go somewhere that needs a bit more travel, you could always hire one maybe?
It’s nice to have a selection of bikes for different riding, but it’s bloody expensive!

    Where do you normally ride?

Same, our family look forward to it every Friday, absolutely loving it.

I guess it depends on what sort of a rider you are. Do you tend to go for the gnar option? (I’m guessing not because… Chisel)
You can roll almost all features in Surrey Hills, and there are chicken lines also on some of the jump lines.
I’m saying you can definitely ride Surrey hills on a chisel, but as above, it would be more fun/ a better experience on something with a bit more travel

Full sus, no. Hardtail will be absolutely fine on pretty much all of the trails.
That said, I find it much more fun on my full sus.

I run Specialized Butchers/Slaughters and Eliminators in the grid compound up on the downs and in the Surrey hills. Seem to be tough enough for the job so far.
Not sure they’re available in 26″.

What about an On One Whippet? Very light, 1×12, very xc.

Cube road race SL looks a great option. Stock not looking good though.
Also like the look of the cube Hyde. Seems to be the same frame as the Editor but £500 less.

3mm boost offset I would think.

Man, tyres are so expensive these days.

    Is it just me?!

Nope, not just you. I’ve been riding specialized Butchers and Slaughters bought in their sales, rarely paid more than £25. Until I got myself a pair of plus wheels, now currently trying to find a decent pair of tyres for less than £100!

Fitted a set of these on a mates bike a few weeks back, he’s gone from 2 pot cheap shimanos to these 4 pots.
As a rider on the heavier side, he really rates them. Very stoppy.

I believe so. Either way, I’m happy to chip in to the Gnusmas fund.

I think I might have a dub bolt in my spares box. Since I’m never going near SRAM drivetrain again, I can take a look to see if it’s there/useable and bung it to you.

Happy to pay/ donate to your charity of choice, that’s very kind!
I’ll give it a go with the circlip pliers.

if the trade-off from having to spend a couple of quid more on bicycle parts is supporting LBS/UK distributors/etc more then that’s a win-win IMO (cue everyone crying that they’re on the poverty line and the only way they can afford XTR/DI2 bits or carbon rims is buying EU imports 🤣)

Happy to support local, but saving £10 on a few bits is one thing, saving £300 on a groupset is quite another. Then there’s the argument that LBS/distributors will also be facing increased costs as well, assuming they also import from EU.

Well, the no shipping situation will be temporary. The increased cost I would expect to be more permanent.

Same with R2 bikes. Temporary I would think, until the blocked ports situation is resolved.

I wrote ‘No. 1 Marino Reseller’ and bought it, with real money.

    This made me lol

Jungle disagreed with everything the dealership said, and got a set of bearings sent out in the post within 2 days.
Also, said any frame warranty issues would be dealt with, regardless of where the frame was bought, as long as I was the original owner.
Needless to say, I went elsewhere to have the work done. Im sure they couldn’t give a flying ****.

@oikeith, exactly that. @nobeer I also think they are talking pish, will have to wait and see what jungle say.

Was going to get the local shop to fit the bearings, hence why going through them.

Dragging up an old thread, but, I’ve just been told by my nearest SC dealership my warranty is only valid in the country it was bought in. I have to apply to the original shop (LTM Racing, Madrid) for my bearing replacement.
I have emailed Jungle, so will see how this pans out.

10.5kg xc bike for £1500 is fantastic value.
I have a hardtail 29er, which i’m very happy with, so no plans to change that.

Plenty of food for thought there, thanks all.
I bought the 5010 before I really knew exactly what type of riding I enjoy best, so although it’s a fantastic bike, it just feels a bit overbiked for what I do.
I wish I could afford/have space for 3 bikes but it’s a one in one out policy in the shed.
I suspect underforking is a no go, and will change the geometry a little too much, therefore I’ll go back to the drawing board.
Lawman- Love the look of the Transition Spur, would love one but the Izzo looks so much more bike for the money.

Weight fluctuates from 80kg (lockdown riding every day) to 84kg (my ‘winter coat’…)
I’m somewhere in the middle at the moment, and am as fast up the climbs as I’ve ever been.

I’ve realised I am using the wrong freehub on my wheel (dtswiss road 11 rather than dtswiss mtb9/10/11) so hoping that is the cause of the rattle.
As above, mine shifts really well, and apart from the noise, is fine.

    onecheshirecat

Out of curiosity, what derailleur do you have?

    onecheshirecat

I’ve recently fitted one on a dtswiss freehub, noisiest cassette I’ve ever ridden. Everything is nice and tight, no excess movement when in the stand, but when out riding it is just noisy. Not sure why.

Are the Sealskins Extreme lobster gloves any good? I’ve found them on the Merlin website for £25.

Off the back of this, which sealskins socks are the go to? I have Adidas terrex trailcross, which I rate very highly, but obviously not very waterproof.

That’s pretty much what I take, and I get it all in a Lowe Alpine hip pack. £22 from memory, so not expensive.
I don’t take my wallet now, prefer to tuck £20 and a bank card into my phone case.
Also, having a decent thin outer layer that’s not too bulky helps.

Sadly no direct experience with the Highball, but I’m 178cm too and have a large chameleon and a large 5010.
