Hope do indeed make a dub adapter. £15 or so. Was just looking at it today after finding my current dub BB is starting to sound like it’s on its way out.
Either that or try a cane creek hellbender neo Dub BB. Not sure on availability though

This thread got me thinking about the whippet again, so I refitted the original fork (I’d put a 120 Reba on it) and a pair of xx1 cranks from the spares bin. It’s now a 22lb rigid rocket!

And yes, it did say so in the spec, so his fault, not On Ones.

Just be aware, the cassette on my mates GX scandal turned out to be an NX Cassette. Not too much of a problem, hes as happy as larry with it.

Thanks @Tuboflard I have downloaded both those routes, much appreciated.

    @cleetonator
I’m hoping we’ll be there early enough, and if so will drop by the school of adventure. Excellent news on the food front, that’s one less thing to take care of.
I’ll also be on a Santa Cruz (Chameleon with a smiley face fender😃)- see you there!

Scandal is a fantastic bike. Friend bought one as a do it all hardtail, and he loves it. Weighs a little more than my chameleon, but not that much. Plus it would be brand new.

Cashed all my premium bonds in after a miserable 2 years with a grand total of £50 to show for over £13k worth of bonds.
3 months into a stocks and shares ISA, I’m up 3%. I went for a low risk set of Vanguard funds.

On one whippet if you want a lighter bike, more XC, but I often loop round my local trails (Stanmer park) on mine. Not the most confidence inspiring going downhill, but I love mine.
My friend has just bought a Scandal GX, he got it on the £1000 deal and personally think it would be difficult to best at that price point. I was expecting it to be heavy, but it weighs 30lb, so reasonable for a cheap trail bike.

And as has been mentioned, Shimano 520s are excellent and people seem to be offering you some.

Sweaty bloke here, always had trouble with sweat in the eyes and blurry glasses. Bought a Halo, works a treat. Then bought a new Oakley DRT5 in a sale, also works a treat. Spoilt for choice now.

@mccraque new coffee van? Why wasn’t I informed of this important development?😃

Only done a little this week up on the top, and it has been mostly dried out up there. Stanmer is another story entirely!

I finished😃 My first race, only 2 laps, but my good did I pick a corker to cut my teeth on…
First lap went well, managed to get into a small pack all the way to the end of the first lap.
Had a small off on some roots and had a group of about 10 pass me and couldn’t get into a rhythm after that. Brutal cramps had me pushing a few of the climbs, so I was very VERY happy to cross that line!

Im looking forward to/ slightly nervous about this. Will be my first ever race (Ever. never even entered so much as a school race:)), and whilst I will not be anywhere near the front, I hope I manage to stay right side up and not come last.
Agonised over my tyre choice, ended up with mezcal/barzo combo.
The race couldn’t come at a worse time fitness wise, but I’m going with a good bunch so fun will no doubt be had. Good luck all.

On one whippet GX, upgrade the wheels and you have a very light xc bike.

The above list is absolutely spot on for me (apart from the cold showers- must try!)
Massively fallen off the exercise wagon since workload has increased back to pre Covid levels. I have to bear the brunt of the work as it’s my business and we had to lay off 2 employees (delivery drivers) due to Covid.
It’s still a few months before we can look to re employ a couple of drivers, so myself and my wife will have to carry on filling in whilst the workload keeps piling up. Great to be a success after a long year of uncertainty, but now find myself in the position of burnout.
14 hour days and 6 day weeks are proving harder now than when I started the business and was quite a few years younger!
Managed to get out for a 15 mile ride this weekend and a 6 mile walk with the dog this morning.
I look back with fondness last year when my business was forced to shut for 2 months and I was riding 80-100 off road miles a week. Dog walks every day, time with family. Encouraging the kids to get involved with the cooking and some DIY. Had no money, but after a while, that anxiety faded and I lived a great life.
Now back in the rat race.

I’ve ridden specialized butchers and (more suitable) slaughters for a few years now without issue.
Decided on a pair of mezcals for my new wheels, no regrets so far. I have one with the old g+ carcass and one on the rear with the newer carcass. Not sure what it’s called.
Guys I ride with use a variety of tyres- Rekon race, butchers, slaughters, Nobby NICs, mezcals. All work, no real issues with any of them. Rarely see a problem, and that’s thousands of sdw riding miles per year.

Found myself in a similar position. I have a 140mm trail bike and a 130mm chameleon with plus tyres and a set of 29ers. I bought a whippet. Changed the components over and have an 11kg race ready 120mm hardtail now.
Go for the Whippet plus upgrades.

I did contact Santa Cruz. Was told to tap it. If it happens again, I guess I’ll ask again.

And thanks TJagain, a bit of reassurance about the 8 remaining threads is exactly what I wanted to hear

Apologies for not using the correct term. I’m not an engineer of any sorts.

No real idea how it happened. One was slightly loose when checking the bolts torque, so removed to add thread locker. The other side was very difficult to remove, and was impossible to get back in.
Santa Cruz just said to get it tapped. I’m not sure if I’m that happy riding it, but was told it would be fine without the first three threads.
I don’t know that Santa Cruz want to warranty it.

I took it into my lbs, they tapped it. The first 3 threads are gone forever, but there are 8 or so good threads after this.
    Hopefully this will be enough.

Mines a carbon cc 2017. I guess I’ll have to get it tapped as I can’t get the bolt back in without too much torque. Don’t want to force it.

Excellent break down of the build there IDB, I love a weightweenies list.
I’ve now put a Reba 120 on the whippet, so currently about 11.3 kg. Much more fun for the riding I do. Obviously noticeably different on the weight front.
I think a good compromise would be to keep the rigid fork and fit a set of lighter, wider rims and a 2.6 tyre.

I think I tried just about all the cheap options. None of them could cope without steaming up Because of my fat sweaty face.
Currently on a pair that got advertised on Instagram, Elite k150 from gobicycle store. They’re an improvement on decathlon and bolle, and whilst they will still fog up on ascents (not sure there’s a pair out there that don’t at this price range), I’m getting on really well with them.
The photochromic lenses work well enough that I don’t notice I’m wearing them even when in and out of shade.
    £30 plus postage.

I’d be really interested to see a full spec for that, as dropping 2kg off the total weight is pretty impressive.. 🤔

    Renthal fatbar lite
    Syntace liteforce 70mm stem
    Cane creek 40 headset
    Deathgrips
    E1900 spline 25mm internal wheelset
Schwalbe Racing ralph 29×2.2″ front and rear
    Slx brakes
    Xt m8000 shifter and mech
    Ethirteen TRS 9-46 cassette
    SRAM gx 30 170mm 11spd crankset
One up 32t switch oval ring
    Hope 30mm bottom bracket
    Shimano m540 pedals
    FSA sl-k carbon post
    Bike yoke squeezy sestpost collar
    Volt cromoly 135 seat
    Lifeline carbon bottle cage

    I think that’s it.
The wheel and tyre combo alone made a massive difference. That would be the first place I’d look to lose weight on the bike.

Managed to get mine a touch below 10kg with a parts swap. Wheels/tyres were heavy (swapped to e1900 spline wheelset, so still not the lightest), and the stock bars/ seat post were too. Stuck XT 11 speed on it with an ethirteen 9-46 cassette.
By the time I sold the swapped out parts and bought upgrades, I think I ended up about the same in terms of spend but got a super light rocket ship!
