Yeah, so having popped the mezcal 2.6 back on, there is definitely rubbing on the chain stay.
Emailed Fairlight bit am still waiting on a reply.

    Awesome looking bike.

Thanks for the update, appreciate that.
I’ll be giving the 2.6 another go come the drier weather. Failing that, I’ll probably switch to 2.6 Forekaster/Rekon combo as I know they come up a little narrower than the mezcals.
Don’t think my pockets can stretch to the Mason Raw frame set!

Just had a root canal redone on one of my front teeth. £750. The original root canal was 1 year older than the dentist who re did it!

Bit of pain for a week as it was a bit awkward to get all of the old filling out and required a bit of oomph to get the new filling all the way to the top of the root.

Also was able to bleach the discoloration (the tooth has been ‘dead’ for 29 years!) for a couple of days before filling the back of the tooth again.

This is my 3rd root canal (one NHS, 2 private) and all successful so far. Touch wood…

I would say that I definitely had more clearance than @beadlesabout photo above. I was able to run 2.6 mezcals and only occasionally had rubbing. And only when running lower pressures.

Man, I’m so sorry I missed this thread, been browsing without logging in! Just seen @beadlesabout message.

I actually stopped running the mezcal 2.6 tyres as I was getting tyre buzz from the chain stays. Kind of coincided with the onset of the crap weather so have put my winter tyres (2.4 tyres) and stuck my head in the sand.

A real shame if I can’t run them as it was definitely my preference.

Will be interesting to see if anything changes with a new frame.

I have a set of the Silt XC alloy wheels. Am 88kg and they’ve not died after a year of riding the South downs.

Also have a set of old DTswiss ex1900 spline from about 7 years ago that are still going on my boys bike.

Also also have a set of XM 421 on a bike that also haven’t died.

Wheels on the ground xc rider here.

I’d go for whatever has the best and easiest warranty service if you’re concerned you’ll break them.

Currently enjoying Bonty XR4 front and XR3  rear both in 2.4 for South downs riding. Much less rolling resistance than the previous Dissector/Rekon combo. Way lighter too if that’s a thing for you.

I have a one up on the Spur and a Ranier on the Holt. They both work! Can’t say as I notice a difference in operation. No trouble at all with either of them so far.

Just watched a video of a woman, no more than 25, who was getting all her perfectly good teeth ground down into stumps so she could have the whitest fake teeth on the planet, i know a couple of folk in their late 20s / early 30s who’ve had this done, you can almost see the nightmare scenario in 20-30 years time with these folk and dental health.

Just working on a case today of a lady who went to Turkey to get 4 dental implants and a bridge covering all her upper teeth. It lasted 3 months, I’m now making her a denture.

Sorely tempted by one of the Vitus frames (for a friend of mine) but he only has a 130mm fork for the frame. Suggestion is for 150mm.
In a few months time I think I could increase the travel on the fork to 140 or 150 with a new air spring (Rockshox Revelation), to match the 140 rear.
In the mean time, how much of a problem would the shorter fork be for a very average rider?

Fairlight Holt. Love mine. There is a thread on the board here:

I love mine, it feels special to me. I have nothing to compare it to though, as it’s my first ever steel bike.
It’s way more comfortable than my On One Whippet (not really an apples with apples comparison though).
It’s a good fun, light(ish) weight hardtail that beats me up less than any other hardtail I’ve owned.

    It’s a 30t oval. Should be a 32t oval as I’ve switched the rear cassette from a 42t cassette to a 50t.

    Now back to 189 ☹️

I have one you can have for the original £90 of you want. In Hassocks, so nice and local! Dave’s me boxing it back up.

I find it very comfortable. Running 2.6 mezcals and a pair of sid selects.

I tried it with 2.35 mezcals and also some 2.4 Wolfpack trail tyres, but enjoyed it more with the wider tyres on.

Perfect for my riding on and around the South downs.

My one was the old 10-50t derailleur so therefore no good for me. Was worth a gamble, but back it goes!

<p style=”text-align: center;”>Thanks @chakaping, I did think maybe I’d be able to use the original hardware, but thought I’d best get some new just in case.</p>
Looking forward to twiddling with the settings on the shock. But more advanced than anything I’ve had before.

Never actually rode it with 160, I had an adapter and a spare 180 disc knocking about so put it straight on.

SILT carbon are worth a look. I’ve just swapped out a pair of XM481 for a pair of their carbon xc wheels. So much lighter, pick up speed much easier. Nice if you live at the foot of the South downs and have a climb out every ride😃
Having a nice bike obviously doesn’t exclude me from taking sh**e photos

Anyone running XR4/XR3 combo? Think I might need something with a bit of grip up front to make up for my lack of skill!

I use this combo on my Spur. Nice and light with plenty of grip in the front. Xr3 doesn’t like mud particularly but should be fine for the summer if it ever arrives.

I have never had a steel bike before the Holt. It generally feels a bit more comfy and muted than any bike I’ve had before. Basing this on back to back rides, on the same route that I’ve been riding for years. I’m sold. Steel is real etc.

Just taken delivery of this and I absolutely love it. Can highly recommend a Fairlight Holt. Not UK built, but designed by Fairlight and built with good old fashioned Reynolds 853. The frame is a work of art. As are the Bentley x Fairlight dropouts.

Swear they were sold out the other day! Must’ve been doing my usual very poor attempt at searching😑
