So a bit like a phone contract then with a subsidised handset.

Do you know if you could tether a non 3g ipad to an iphone 4g?

I suffer from the chorus of Hall and Oates ‘Out of Touch’ going repeatedly in my head when i ride tempo

    You’re out of touch
    I’m out of time
But I’m out of my head when you’re not around
    (repeat)

I’ve never liked the song and I dont know any other words of the song. But that chorus can go on in my head for hours at a time. I dont know if this is driving me nuts, or merely a sympton of being nuts.

There was a tv show (either late 80s / early 90s) called Chimera…it was about this half monkey half human….scared the absolute crap out of me as a kid and frankly is still the monster that is chasing me during solo night rides in the woods

Saw a few clips of it recently and it didnt seem so bad now 😀

One of my mates had a trek that looked like that a few years ago. At the time it was the most expensive bike i’d ever had a shot on…was about £2000 i think and seriously lust worthy!

Now it looks like it was bought out of argos, how times change

Sounds like a disappointing day 🙁

Re: the organisation. Did it change organiser quite late on? I thought it was linked to the Etape Caledonia and Hibernia (and now Penines too) but it doesn’t seem to be mentioned on their website? In terms of route, marshalling and road closure the Caledonia and Hibernia have been really goo – i dont think it would be possible to take a wrong turn on either. (there was of course the tack issue but i cant really blame them for that)

    thats great 😀

I had considered doing it but the time of year put me off, long way to travel to get soaked 😀

Expensive for sure but if the Etape Caledonia and Hibernian is anything to go by the closed roads make it better value than most other sportives at £25-£35 which seems to be the going rate.

That was nervewracking as hell in the final 5 km…actually make that the final 150 km 😀

Felt at times like it was Britain v the World!

At the moment unrideable without cutting up very badly so having to avoid it – presumably until the frost arrives! Only time this year the trails have been properly dry and dusty was in April / early May. 🙁

The best cage i’ve had (no bottles falling out, nothing breaking and fairly light) has been a cheap plastic zefal one, only cost about £4. Maybe i was just unlucky with carbon ones but they both broke within about a years use.

It doesn’t really, not if you’re in the right position. It even does a great job of keep rain out of your eyes when it’s really chucking it down. Some pros (including Lance) use peaks when the weathers awful, despite the rule violation.

Well it obscures visibility for me – i usually wear a cycling cap under my helmet when the weather is awful and when on the drops i need to compensate by moving my head up to see the road ahead rather than just look up with my eyes. End up getting a stiff neck, which i dont otherwise get.

specialized 2d for road and a 661 dirt lid for mtb

used to have a bell xc lid as well but i cracked that in March and used the pisspot in the meantime, surprisingly didnt find it too hot during the summer so have stuck with it since.

Why do people take the peak off for riding on a road?

Obscures visibility when on the drops

Probably the Negev desert, but the road was fairly busy so in reality it wasn’t particularly remote it was more scenary and heat made it feel like it was.

Berlin is great. Really good museums and art galleries, good general sightseeing particularly if you have an interest in history and the best clubs in Europe.

The others are good too but with a reservation – the stag do’s and groups of tourists (particularly young Brits and Germans) can be a right pain in the arse in some parts of Amsterdam. Venice attracts a different sort of tourist but it is properly packed with tourists during the summer and equally as annoying – but maybe that isn’t so bad in October.

I have the 800 and it is a great bit of kit. I didnt use the mapping much in the winter due to most of my riding being on familiar routes but over the summer ive riden alot (both road and mtb) in areas that i do not know particularly well so it has been useful for that.

Expensive but already signed up. One of the highlights of the cycling year for me and with the closed roads and big event atmosphere it is better value than most sportives in the £25-35 price bracket.

Great North Run might be bigger and cheaper…but you have to run and running is shit

Oh **** yeah! hopefully this is start of the the future coming true…. i’ve waited for over 20 years for hoverboards to be invented, we are quickly approaching 2015 so time is running out for the prophecy to be realised.

I rode a double for years and still have it on one bike but this year i’ve been trying out a compact and have quite liked it, just gives another option when it starts to get steep. If i’m doing a hilly ride then i’m probably a bit slower on the earlier hills if im spinning up them whereas with the double i’d have to attack them more, but when i get to climbs after 50 or 60 miles my legs feel fresher than they used to – and its not because i’m any fitter than i was in the past!

I’ve never felt that i’ve had a slow reaction time with disk brakes, is this really a problem that needs solving and its because i’m a shit rider that i’ve never suffered from it?

Every cyclist should try the Ulrich method at least once in their life after a hard ride. Even better than eating jam from the jar when needing a hit of sugar!

One of the first ones that kickstarted the mashup trend was Christina Aguilera v The Strokes, still one of the best.

However the real genius was still to come with Biggie v Thomas the Tank
