I have a macbook pro (os x 10.6) and a pc running windows 7 and if i was switching from an old machine (whether pc or mac) to a new one (again either pc or mac) then i’d find the new one to be a big improvement on the old.

These things are subjective but i find windows 7 to be more user friendly than snow leopard!

Got the Etape Caledonia that day so couldnt do it this year.

Probably the best weekend of domestic sportives in the whole year – The Fred, Bealach Na Ba and Etape Caledonia – unfortunately cant do them all!

I think it can partly be explained by how age and youth is viewed now compared to in the past.

The baby boom generation and those that followed are more youth orientated than previous generations and golf is seen as being an old fart sport. This is of course generalising but golf tends to be the game that people from their 50s onwards would have picked up…this demographic is now doing other things (cycling has probably seen the biggest increase in numbers due to the switch away from golf)

it doesn’t seem to show it on the graph but it should show negative on the details panel (although all you get there is max, min and avg)

I dont know if they are any good or not long term but i’m currently waiting on delivery of one.

Was the winner of the sit arse on it and spin around a bit test in the shop at least.

So if they are overpriced shit i’d prefer no-one to mention it 😀

it is simple fast food slightly more upmarket than McDonalds/Burger King and a bit healthier too depending on what you order. I dont see what all the complaints are about its not claiming to be anything other than that.

    good advert too 😀

In terms of pocketable race capes that are small enough to easily fit in a back pocket then the cheapo aldi one is not far off the expensive offerings. It might not be quite as good as what assos or rapha sell, but there is not that much of difference in quality to justify the price difference. Whereas you can really tell the difference in quality when it comes to ‘proper’ waterproofs or softshells rather than stowaway ones.

the times for my local climbs seem pretty slow…think i might go out at the weekend and bag a few KOTM points before the website really catches on 😀

Only scratch i’ve got on my jawbones is a small one from accidentally dropping them from the passenger deck to the car deck on a ferry. that was a worry second or two as they fell down thought they were going in the clyde!

never had any problems with scratching from riding. i generally dont wipe mud from the lens (due to it smearing) so if they have mud specks on them i want to clean i would run them under water first before cleaning with the cloth…that probably makes a difference.

With spd-sl i have 6 degrees of float (it is either that or 0)

I have no scientific knowledge to back this up but i reckon no float would give more problems to the knees unless you have your bike position, pedalling stroke and cleat placement dialed in just right. I think some people have problems sprinting with no float pedals too when they accidentally unclip. So i’d recommend float of some kind

Glasgow mountain bike club are the main mtb one but there is alot more choice of road clubs so it really depends what sort of area you’d want to ride from and whether you want to do some racing etc. i dont know any club that has a regular mix of road rides and mtb rides but within the clubs there will usually be people interested so you’d probably be able to find someone to ride with as part of a smaller sub group outwith the main rides of the week

For something a bit less formal than a proper club there are a couple of groups on meetup, one for mtb and one for road

the garmin connect route mapping was easy to use but didnt add altitude when i tried it a few month ago (however if you download rides that other people have done then the altitude data is there)

I generally make my routes on bikehike, save them to hard drive and then add them to the device using basecamp.

When using basecamp for the mapping i find drawing the maps is quite a slow process and when saving direct to the device from bikehike (or other online sites) then it can be bit hit and miss whether it saves properly first time. Plus i like to keep a folder on the desktop with the map files as a backup.

As well as Breaking Bad, Dexter, Sons of Anarchy that have already been mentioned i thought Treme was excellent.

Anyone else see Rubicon on BBC4? That was really good. Was a spy / conspiracy thriller, a slow burner and was shaping up to be great…got cancelled after its first season and ended on a cliffhanger!

Looking forward to Mad Men coming back next year.

Strauss and Cook shouldnt win because victory in a glorified friendly match that the same two teams play every couple of years is a bit of a shit achievement.

Amir Khan – not really worth a place on the list this year, presumably it was selected before his last fight?

Luke Donald – would quickly swop his #1 status for a major. Likewise for Andy Murray, high ranking is no substitute for a slam.

Clarke and Mcillroy did something (win a major) that a load of British golfers have managed to do over the years. A great achievement for them personally, but not a landmark one for British golf.

Cavendish winning the world championships and green jersey is however a landmark achievement for himself and British cycling more generally. And to be balanced rather than just biased in favour of the cyclist what Mo Farah achieved was of a comparable level to this. Should only really be those two fighting for the top spot with Dai Green in 3rd.

So that is what Bieber sounds like. I’ve seen his name mentioned alot the last year but dont think i’d heard any of his songs until now…he sounds like a girl! But not in a good way like a proper girl would sound like.

A road ride from Jerusalem taking in Bethlehem, Massada and Jericho.

Not just the highlight of this year but one of the highlights of my life, cycling or otherwise.

was in HMV recently for the first time in a couple of years and was a bit shocked by how little music they had. It was never my favourite music shop but was happy enough to in and have a browse of the music and dvds and would usually purchase something…but what little they had was just a mess and not much better than the shitty, narrow selection you’d get in a large tesco with a music section.

i got an ipad screen protector and just cut it to size, when it either peels off or gets too scratched, just cut another bit out. Works out pretty cheap, i got it in tesco for about £3

They were legally right and the van driver was in the wrong confronting them

I regularly ride two abreast however on a road like that i would not ride two abreast going at the speed they were going. They look as if they are pootling along about 12mph or maybe less…it might be legally right but if it was me i’d feel i was being inconsiderate to other road users.

Going by what is said the guy on the left is obviously not particularly comfortable with the situation but the one with the camera is. IMO there is a tendency for some helmet camera wearing commuters to ride or act in a way that makes them more prone to get a reaction. It probably isn’t that they do it for youtube hits, it is as if they think having a camera provides a magic bubble that gives them more protection.

I had heard the stories of it happening and big al at wheelcraft advised me to get shimano ones with my new wheel build. However i’d already bought the hope ones anyway so just used them and haven’t had any problems with them loosening (over 6000 miles since i started using them).

I’m not really a foodie with sophisticated tastes so my best meals are as much about the company i’m with as the food.

Like the take away burrito eaten at the Hotel du Vin with Scarlett Johansson. To be honest the burrito wasn’t anything remarkable I just wanted to name drop (and hopefully mislead people into thinking it was a post coital snack) 😀

Not as strong in the west, just in from quick spin – bit of a bastard of a headwind on the way out but a glorious tailwind on the way back (6 miles out – average 13.7mph, 6 miles back 28.4!)…last week although i had the day off i didnt bother taking the bike out at all, just felt far too windy to be safe.

Picture quality is good on them both

If you are only wanting to mount to a helmet then i’d go with the contour, the shape looks a less conspicious than the gopro for this. However if you want to mount elsewhere, either on the bike or on the chest i’d go with the gopro, there are so many easy mounting options that make it very versatile. Plus the waterproof case gives it good protection, i think you need to spend extra to get a waterproof case with the contour…i maybe wrong about that though.
