Some of the helmet camera wearers seem to go out of their way to get footage that will get them more hits on youtube.

There are even a couple who have managed to monetised filming their commute – getting free kit to try out, getting paid for articles etc. No problems with that as such but there then becomes an incentive to ride in such a way that provides ‘interesting’ footage.

Makes it more difficult to look ahead on the road just by moving your eyes rather than shifting your head too. Ok for short rides but i tend to get a stiff neck after about an hour if i’m riding on the road with a peak on the helmet.

My biggest regret is choosing to spend thursday, friday and saturday nights in the library rather than in the union or other student clubs. I was stupid enough to think it would always be easy to hook up with attractive, intelligent women in their late teens / early 20s 🙁

In the summer it really depends how long the ride is going to be – if i’m going down the supermarket i just go with what im wearing but i dont really class that as a “bike ride” its only 5 minutes each way. For an hours ride then a couple of minutes to get ready and fill a bottle but for a longer ride then will need to get food out and make a drink up, check the weather forecast see if i need to take a waterproof / gilet / arm warmers etc, have a quick check of the bike to make sure everything is good.

In the winter even a short ride will take a while to get ready for. If i organised my clothes more then it would be quicker but i am forever losing base layers, undergloves, overshoes (which when i eventually find take me about 5 minutes to get on properly because they are so tight!)

If you are going to be out for a few hours particularly in the winter then taking a bit of time to get properly prepared is worth it. For me it is the difference between feeling comfortable after 3 hours as opposed to feeling miserable after 30 minutes!

his production hasnt really dated much, still sounds fresh and new – unlike alot of his contempories who were more successful at the time.

the royal mail has its problems but i’d rather wait a few minutes at the local sorting office to collect an undelivered item than go on a 50 minute drive to some industrial estate to some mail depot that i’ll spend ages trying to find because its not signed and then wait in a line to be served there. Because that seems to be what the alternative is if i dont want to pay twice to get something redelivered 🙁

Don’t bother – whatever some have said above, you don’t actually lose huge amounts of time with a normal turn if you do one efficiently – I reckon it only made a couple of seconds difference to my 100m times. Tumbles won’t get you from 8:26 to sub-8. Far better to spend any time you might have on learning normal swimming technique.

It might not make up a huge time difference over 400metres (probably worth about a metre a length) but they are good for training because it helps to keep things flowing whereas a touch/open turn breaks up rhythm.

Some people can learn how to do them quickly whereas others seem to struggle so it is worthwhile giving it a go for 15 minutes and seeing how things are.

i was on 2nd same side, then i went to 4th alternate side. i read to alternate, someone told me to same side – anyone?

some believe that bilateral (like breathing alternate side) is best as it keeps things in balance but IMO it is better to breathe with what you are most comfortable with. Whether that is every 2nd, 3rd or 4th doesnt make any difference. (although I think every 4th is a bit much for a longer distance swim, ok for 100 metres but more difficult for 400)

If you could manage 8minutes 26 with no training for a year beforehand then you’ll likely be able to beat 8 minutes just by swimming more regularly like you are doing just now. Working on technique and then doing some training drills will give big improvements but if the primary goal is only to break 8 minutes i wouldnt worry too much about it.

+1 on learning to tumble turn, those that dont do them – no matter how fast they might be – just look like n00bs, and this is obviously a very important factor to consider.

i tended to get about 25-26, i didnt drive it like a hooligan either

Its a nice engine though so much torque and pulls so well from low revs particularly in 4,5 and 6 th gears

The different position might take a bit to get used to at first and feel really twitchy in terms of handling but you will soon grow to love that.

I’d recommend getting a co2 pump and some cartridges as it saves so much time and effort if you get a flat the mini pumps can take an age to get up to a decent pressure.

endless pools seem to be popular amongst triathletes but they are not great if you are wanting to work on technique – they certainly make it easier to analyse and video the stroke but the problem there is that you will have different stroke going against the current in an endless pool than a normal pool. Its nothing like an open water current either

as for the video if you go early and no-one else is in i’m sure they wont mind too much providing you agree to take it out if anyone does arrive.

It has been expensive so far but the most worrying thing is that no real reforms have been made to prevent the problems happening again in the future.

There are some economists (Steve Keen being the most ‘famous’…if you can call economists famous) who believe that governments should have written off private/personal debts up to a certain level (if an individual has no debt then they are not ‘penalised’ for this – they get a cash alternative), nationalised the problem banks so the structural reforms could be carried out and then starting again would have been a better option. Their theory sounds a pretty counter intuitive way of fixing a debt crisis (giving people free money) but it has been mathematically modelled and would have been cheaper than policy that been followed.

The colours make it look pretty cheap and lowrent. Reminds me a bit of the shit “custom” myspace pages that people used to have (which would end up crashing your browser due to the terrible coding)

Really dislike Clare Balding too. An awful sports presenter and seems to have a right nasty streak to her as well.

the spelling errors and the typos in the original letter look a bit suspicious

reminds me of when i was back in high school pretended to be a Swedish lesbian bikini model on icq chat…i’d throw in a Ja and Nej and copious use of the ö and å letters thinking it would fool whoever i was chatting with.

Most of the crashes i;ve had on my road bike i’ve not really known i was going down until i was on the deck – you dont even get the time to think “****…this is gonna hurt”. On the MTB it seems to happen the other way – it is as if the crashes happen in slow motion.

btw apparently Danny Hart was crit racing at the weekend and was involved in a crash. Was anyone here in the race?

Until recently i used to buy most of it CD then rip it. I just liked having the physical copy – even though for at least 5 years of doing this i rarely listened to the actual CD, it was just put on the shelf. Still do that occassionally but mostly it is all downloading and spotify now, much more convenient.

I do miss the pre mp3 days though in one major way – listening through my computer, or ipod, in the car or wherever…i have tens of thousands of songs available but i’m skipping between artists and genres and playlists rather than sitting back and enjoying an album, flicking through the booklet before deciding to put something else on and enjoy another album. Its like my musical attention span has disappeared.

some were a bit too serious looking to be funny like the guy falling off the balcony and the guy getting hit with the plane.

but some were great. BANG “i just **** shot myself…..son of a bitch i just shot myself”. Also liked the women doing the plank on the cooker, the cooker door opening then the cooker falling on top – was pure slapstick 😀

    bit of a thriller

btw if an already world class cyclist was to make the gains in power, endurance and recovery over the course of about a year that Djorkovic has made would anyone believe them if they said it was all the result of a gluten free diet and sleeping in an egg?

I dont know anyone who has riden one of their mountain bikes (i dont think i’ve even seen one on a trail either – presumably their high end ones are good though as Julien Absalon won Olympic gold riding one) but their road bikes are very nice indeed – The frames on the road bikes have a lifetime warranty dont know about the mtbs though.

i was a member of a car club a few years ago and they had a cobra replica. It was mental to drive – it was the only car in the fleet that you had to be tested in before you were allowed to drive it yourself.

In terms of experience it was great – so much presence. You’d pull up at traffic lights and people would hear the rumble of the engine and put their window down to ask you to rev it!

Driving it however was a alot less fun 😀
