Fair enough, it’s not sectarian though, simply a pet name used by everyone! I’ll leave it at that.

An anti-sectarian charity and the courts consider it sectarian so it is a bit more than a pet name.

The original context might not have meant that but then neither was fenian but both terms are now used as the basis of sectarian insults.

Since when is it acceptable to post videos that have sectarian slurs in them?

Leave that shite off of singletrack rather than turning it into every other website and forum where there are ‘debates’ about Scottish football.

I’ve found GP4000s and even GP4 Seasons to be prone to punctures in the wet. They handle really nicely but my experience of them doesn’t really match all the great reviews they get.

I find it very useful although i mostly use it for recording rides because 90% of the rides i do are in places i know pretty well already.

However if im riding in an area i dont know then i’ll plan out a route the night before and put it on the device then follow that route rather than just riding out without any plans and doing some random exploring. If you want to do that it will be easier and cheaper just using a map i suppose but being able to follow a route on the device makes things easier…also really good knowing the route profile ahead so i can use a more measured effort up unknown climbs!

btw you’ll need to get the OS map package though the road one wont have any coverage off road.

He’s done a pretty good job in a very difficult situation what with the financial mess he inherited, the war mess he inherited and then one of the most looney and obstructionist senate / congresses probably ever.

i have a habit of getting shit songs stuck in my head, the worst offender would be hall and oats

“you’re outta a touch, im outta time,
im outta my head, when you’re not around
you’re outta a touch, im outta time”

this monstrosity was on repeat in my head for 3 hours because i dont know any of the other words 🙁

For some reason it is considerably easier to count it as metres than lengths (well assuming you are in a 25m or 50m pool)

On the ps3, presumably xbox too, you can select ea servers if you go to the server browser option

Some of the the private servers are pretty good depending on what options the admin has set it up with – mix of game modes / maps or higher ticket count. Just had a game of conquest assault and the game lasted nearly 2 hours!

That is quite a remarkable achievement – he has finally found somewhere else that is stupid enough to elect him and restart his gravy train. I had hoped we’d seen the last of him after he was humiliated in the Scottish Parliament elections last year, but not to be.

People tend to like because he gives a good soundbite and there is an impression that he is standing up to The Man. However the more you get to know him as either just as a representative or more closely if you are involved in certain political causes / groups then that attitude rapidly changes to one that instead considers him to be a self serving repulsive sleazeball!

i only have the 1 road bike so miss out on these joys

however the last couple of times i’ve went out i’ve not had to clean down the bike after the ride…what a treat that is!

    Before Sunrise

I thought it was going to be typical frothy romantic pish that i normally hate but there was nothing else on tv that night and i couldnt sleep so i watched it and godamnit it was just about perfect and felt like it was a movie made specifically to talk to me. Its sequel Before Sunset is every bit as good too.

I quite like the first bit of Sunshine but thought that once it got onto the Freddy Kreuger in space thing it turned to crap.

Cervelo did research on bar height and performance and their finding was that saddle height and position was what determined back position rather than the bar height. Riders have a ‘natural’ back position and whether the stem is slammed or has a couple of spacers does not really have much impact on the natural position because the rider bends or straightens their arms to get to it.

Is it not a bit of a false economy if you are going to get a couple of pairs of Oakley lenses for them?

Going to be about £80 – 100 on lenses so when you add the cheap frames to that its not much less than what the genuine ones would cost.

Ive cracked mine a couple of times and i couldnt do any meaningful exercise for about 4 or 5 weeks. For a couple of weeks it was a struggle just sleeping but after that improved a bit i tried getting back out on the bike. Just going over an average road surface had me wincing in pain and potholes etc were agony. Couldnt twist or look over my shoulder so didnt feel safe either. Breathing more deeply than what i would when not doing exercise was a problem too so that ruled out the turbo beyond a very easy pace.

After a month or so things had improved a bit and i could get riding again but it was still a while before i could do ‘normal’ rides and not have discomfort particularly when climbing.

I’d go with Glasgow, although i’d avoid the east end. The west end and south side are where you’d want to live.

Edinburgh is nice but will be more expensive to live there…if cost of renting (etc) is an issue then i wouldnt discount Paisley entirely. It is basically just a suburb of Glasgow only about 40 minutes cycle from the centre of one to the other or 10 minutes on the train.

clif bars and clif shot bloks are what i tend to use for long rides along with a banana, gels for an emergency. nuun tablet for rides between about 30-60 miles, high 5 4:1 for longer or harder rides. i guess i’m the only sucker who falls for all the marketing bullshit 😀

although now its getting into classics season i’ve got a box of 36 stroopwaffles to last me for a bit!

The guys who suggested it have looked at the sporting and financial performance of the other clubs when one or other of the old firm have been poor (not a very regular occurence, I grant you).

They conclude that the money from old firm ‘visits’ can be made up by as few as 1000 more fans per week over the course of a season. Very easy to get if there is a fighting chance of the club actually winning something or getting into Europe.

Extended runs in cups and Europe, again benefit the clubs to an extent which could easily match, or exceed, the contribution from the OF.

I don’t have the numbers but it is suggested that in recent years money from Sky to the SPL has been greatly reduced and that the OF get the lions share (I would guess on an appearance type deal). If it were taken away from the other clubs it may not be significant as attendances may actually go up as a result.

My own thought is that without teams being able to buy players in as a quick fix, they may have to concentrate on producing homegrown. This is already happening in the English Championship, my own club’s youth team are on a particularly good run. The more clubs in Scotland can do this the better for the clubs (nothing fans love more than a local bopy) and the National Team.

It is a different era now. One of the biggest problems Scottish football faces is the amount of money on offer in England. In the early 80s Aberdeen or Dundee United could bring through youth and build their team and progress year on year. Now if a promising youngster comes through they will sell before they have even fully established themself in the team. The young player will go to the premiership or championship, immediately earn about 5 – 10 times his salary – and that is often them just being signed for ‘potential’ rather than to go straight into the first team.

Happens even with the old firm. Islam Feruz, who was (maybe still is) the biggest Scottish youth prospect hadnt even made a competitive first team appearance for Celtic before being lured to Chelsea on bigger wages. That is bigger wages to play for their youth team, he would probably have made his breakthrough to the first team in Scotland this season.

(Think the max an individual club gets from the TV is about £2million and the minimum is £850000. So there is a gap but it is not that much, the likes of Hearts, Aberdeen etc will be somewhere between the two figures.)

A minority of old firm fans are head bangers but there are alot of decent ones too.

If the spotlight was shone to the same extent on the minority of fans that follow other clubs as it is in the old firm then no-one would come out of it looking good. In the last couple of years Motherwell and St Johnstone have had incidents of fans giving racist abuse, Aberdeen fans sing songs about another group of fans dieing in a stadium disaster, Hearts fans have had sectarian chanting. Even Scotland fans wouldnt come out of it well with some of the English chants.

There is a major double standard at play that singles out old firm fans as being somehow unique in what they get up to but they really aren’t anything special.

Over half of those that attended a football match over the weekend in Scotland were at ibrox to see Rangers. That is generally how it always is when one of the Glasgow teams are at home. Outwith those two Scottish football is in terminal decline with low attendances, no money and crap players. Take away a large chunk of the tv deal and the subsequent cut in sponsorship, take away the away attendances (etc) and would Scotland even be able to support a fully professional league?

All this is made even worse due to the situation at Hearts – they are very vulnerable with their current ownership and level of debt.

It is a bit of a myth that if you then take Rangers (or Celtic) out of the equation then other clubs will somehow pick up this support and thrive. These fans will be lost and to think otherwise shows a misunderstanding of what it means to be a football fan.

I think you can use her card, but i dont think you can make a copy.

When i got it i tried to make up a backup of the sd map card but the data on the backup couldnt be read. Maybe there is a way to do it though i didnt bother investigating it further.

    tube

    tyre lever
    co2 x 2 and airchuck
small pump on the bottle cage
    phone
    £10
    missinglink / powerlink
multi tool – would recommend one with a chain tool. A snapped chain is rare but if it does happen it is a quick and easy repair with the right tool but a ride ender without.

I once choaked on a lump of something in ready brek and that has put me off it for good. Wasn’t a lump of compressed oats either, was properly minging and makes me want to throw up just thinking about it.

Used to like Pawridge but now they only seem to offer the individal sachet version which is too expensive compared to a box. For some reason every other type of microwave porridge seems to explode in my microwave 😀

there will always be some idiot (like me) who needs a quick link or an inner tube and will go on a site for one then see the bargain discount being offered making me add a few other “essential” items into the basket so i can get the money off.

I justify it to myself that i’m just bringing the purchase of “essentials” forward by a few months 😀

women tend to have longer legs and shorter torsos plus a smaller shoulder width so womens specific bikes have shorter top tube, narrower bars etc

That said a male bike can be sorted to fit a women fine

I hate waiting around for people that are late.

On the other hand i am often late myself and dont really even bother thinking up excuses these days, so basically i am a hypocrite.

Which ironically is another feature i hate in other people but dont really mind it when I am the one being hypocritical.

I’m about 5000 miles on my current rims, ride in all weathers

I’d be pretty annoyed to only get about 2000 miles. Koolstop or swiss stop pads + cleaning the braking surfaces will make a difference to longevity
