I tend to use them when A) I cant be arsed to do something B) make an arse of something that i could be arsed to do. So i use them a fair bit.

Looks good but think i’ll stick to the hero 1 for now

Quite like the video though – was it all shot with a gopro? If so i wonder how they did the mini panning shot from the front on the motorbike (about 2 minutes 18)

It is a flag flown by racists…but not necessarily a racist flag

There used to be a guy who had a volvo estate car in glasgow done up like the general lee with confederate flags on it…he also had a personal reg with KKK on it so i suspect it wasnt just a shit tribute to the dukes of hazzard!

I have a mix of gear ranging from Aldi to Assos and Rapha

I dont like the prices but the Assos shorts are always my go to shorts if im doing a long ride. That is not to say other brands like dhb, specialized, endura, gore, castelli and Rapha dont do the job well…they are just not quite as comfortable. I wish this wasn’t the case as i’d rather save some money!

I dont really care that much so long as the sport is cleaner now and in the future.

The biggest problem cycling has is that it is a fairly popular sport with a bit of media interest – It is big enough to be newsworthy but at the same time doesn’t have the seriously big money at stake with sponsorship and billion £ media deals that the media would potentially jeapordise by reporting the problem of doping.

Football for example is every bit as dirty as cycling is now, yet the popular perception (conditioned by a pathetic testing regime and also the media reporting) is that doping isn’t an issue.

The music is good but ever since the channel was (rightly) saved from closure alot of the DJs have started to get right on my tits in a way they didnt do in the earlier years. Presumably they seem to think the groundswell of spport to save the station was about them, rather than the music playlists.

The fake news reports are the worst of the lot, i need to change the channel because im cringing so much at how shit the “comedy” is!

I used to go to training camps at club la santa when i was a youngster. Was a great facility – olympic size swimming pool, football pitches, athletics track, gym etc and you could rent decent bikes too.

Its great for training, although i have been known to cheat by touching the screen so i can zero the gap 😛

Its a great training aid, always surprises me how long it can take to claw back even a small gap.

Unless it is the defeet kneekers style then IMO knee warmers really need to be tried on. Too tight and they will get uncomfortable quickly and too slack they wont stay up.

Part of the fun is the stalking of the local competition (usually you’ll see the same names on the leaderboards in a 20 mile radius) and seeing how they are getting on and what segments they are targetting.

The sweetest victories are when you see someone targetting a segment for a while (can be weeks or even months) you see them getting closer and closer and you know you had a little in reserve when you set it – eventually they get a good day for it with a tailwind or whatever and finally get the top spot. Makes for a great motivation to get the bike out to take it back straight away, i realise that is all a bit sad and pathetic…but it is fun too 😀

I can afford to risk £100, but it would have to go in on certain provisos. And I agree that £50k is a drop in the ocean. Can’t see it working out, but would be interesting if it, say, contributed to funding women’s racing at a more local level.

    I agree with that.

The biggest problem with womens cycling in Britain isn’t the lack of sponsors at the elite level of the sport (lottery funding helps fill that void) but rather at grassroots level. Womens races up and down the country are struggling because of a lack of entries leading to events being cancelled and then when they do run often it is with a very small fields despite riders coming from hundreds of miles around to race. That in itself means it is not a good environment to attract new racers because the standard of the top women racing is likely to be so far ahead of the newcomers. Without the grassroots getting sorted – and there are no easy answers there – then having a well funded elite team is not going to add much when the existing elite riders are already doing pretty well at an international level.

The profit margin apple has on its iphones is signicantly higher than other phones – the 4S is something like 70% (10% would normally be considered good). That will be repeated on their tablets.

Im typing this on my ipad so im not an apple hater but the idea that they cost more because of the materials or components used is wrong

I have roof bars and a tow bar one – both will do the job but if i could only choose one it would be the tow bar as the bikes feel more secure.

The downside is the expense involved, then you also need somewhere to store it when it is not attached. But it is a 1 minute job to fit (basically lift up and put on tow ball, pull down lever, lock it and plug in the electrics) and it tilts to allow access to the boot.

I’m pretty shit technically and find it quite a bit harder than the red overall particularly towards the end. With the red i can do all the features, dont really need to think about anything but on the black there are some bits (like the rock garden at the start of the wormhole) that i struggle on and dont particularly enjoy riding.

However despite that as an overall trail i like it and continue going back for more as it is usually very quiet and i wont see or hear anyone else for a couple of hours – it gives you a feeling of being a bit out on your lonesome, unlike the red where you are never far from someone else.

Were the multipage helmet or diet debates/arguments really a problem for the forum? I’ve quite easily managed to avoid reading most of the threads about those sorts of subjects and I suggest those who didnt like the repetitive nature of that sort of content just to ignore it too, rather than wanting those who are being ‘argumentative’ banned. It would be a different story if someone is being abusive and threatening on those threads but as far as im aware that wasnt the case.

The disappointing thing is that some of members who were banned were essentially harmless – Normally if someone says that then it sounds like they are being an apologist for someone who posts racist / sexist / homophobic content but they never said anything that would fit that definition and they seemed to remain civil while debating/arguing.

It is a right pain in the arse although I sympathise with alot of the workers too – in some states tips are included in their minimum wage, so if they dont get the tips the subsequent loss of income can be be quite significant.

Last time i was there i gave a taxi driver a $3 tip on a $10 fare. I realise this isnt much but i thought it was pretty generous but he started moaning about it because the tip was in quarters and he was wanting dollar bills. Turned into a proper old sweary argument 😳

The really short segments are a waste of time, has more to do with the gps / phone people are using rather than the actual speed they get. Over a longer segment it balances out a bit – the innacuracy is still there but the time benefit is going to be less.

Logistically it would be very difficult to merge it into the Olympics – its not just that there is a Paralympic equivalent event for each Olympic one but that there are several equivalents based on disability and within each disability there are also different categories. It can be quite hard to follow the events when it is a stand alone games, but to merge it into the Olympics would mean everything would be overshadowed.

It is difficult to sound a bit negative about the Paralympics without sounding like a mean spirited bastard and denegrating the athletes involved but when Usain Bolt won the 200 metres it overshadowed perhaps the greatest track final in modern history with David Rudisha winning the 800 metres. Quite apart from the organisation involved if the Paralympic mens 200 metres was on the same night would anyone have paid attention to the winners? There are 13 different varients of it.
