The lack of brakes is a bit scary at first but as everyone else lacks them too there isn’t any sudden braking you have to watch out for.

Is this in Glasgow btw? You’ll likely shite yourself when you go in and collect your bike from the hire desk and see riders up above going round the banking…15 minutes later you’ll be doing it too and loving every minute 🙂

IMO over the last couple of years (probably a bit longer – certainly since the station was saved from the axe) there seems to have been a change in the presentation style with more emphasis on the DJs as personalities with running in jokes and other shite rather than music.

He has acted like a knob over the years – but frankly the same can be said for half the guys i ride with (some of whom are not only knobs but are also known to cheat on strava – something which directly impacts on me whereas cheating to win the Tour de France doesn’t 😀 ) and i still put up with them because the positives of riding a bike with those i do enjoy the company of outweigh the negatives of having to put up with some guys that I dont.

Would people really pull out of this event if Armstrong was to enter? If you dont like the guy fair enough but it would be a bit crazy if you would let something like that spoil your enjoyment. If nothing else surely it will be a good story to tell.

still some tickets for the centre left i think, either £35 or £75 depending on the package

yeah pretty good and inexpensive too compared to other events.

the basic membership is pretty good value just for the insurance and access to some discounts, priority ticketing at events like the track world cup etc.

starts getting expensive when you have racing licence on top, plus all the entry fees you’ll have to pay to make use of that licence.

Looks good. Think ill sign up actually looks like some good cycling in the area.

A map or gpx file of the mtb and road routes would be good but maybe the route isnt totally finalised yet

The easy availability of chinarellos have done far more to damage the brand than choosing to sell in halfords will do.

big fan of them under a helmet.

shame hipsters started wearing them in recent years because they used to be sort of cool off the bike too.

Assos mille bib shorts – he pad and fit just seem suit me perfectly.

The downside is the expense, think it was about £140 when i got mine but they are more expensive now. So over the last year i’ve tried to economise a bit, save the mille for long days in the saddle and get some other half decent bibs for shorter rides. Nothing comes close though and i’ve ended up spending about double what another pair of the milles would have cost 🙁

I wear an adidas techfit / climacool base layer, it is pretty cool (has a sort of mesh on the side and back) with a regular cycling top over that.

I need to lose the gut before im going anywhere near a skinsuit 😳

If you cant pop into the arena to speak to them at the front desk then the easiest way is to fill in this form http://www.123contactform.com/form-390997/Velodrome-Accreditation they will get back to in a couple of days giving you a Glasgow Life number and password and then you can access the computer system and book a taster / introduction session.

It is great fun, but i have to warn you it is pretty addictive!

When i started to diet (im not following any plan just cutting down on some of the crap i was eating) i didnt have an initial weigh in to see where i was starting from. So since then i’ve been trying to use a few more superficial goals for weightloss

    1. Fit into my favourite jeans without it being uncomfortable (achieved!)

    2. Wear my endura humvees without the popper popping open

    3. Also i have couple of race fit cycle tops i want to be able to wear without feeling too self concious.

    4. Be able to zip up my gore gilet that i havent been able to close for about 2 years.

Maybe daft goals to have but i’m finding it a bit easier to do it this way rather than think about it in terms of actual weight

I think there is an app for blogger it might work better using that rather than doing it via the browser

Done my accred 4 today and now qualified w00t w00t w00t

I think there was someone from stw there in the session before me as i recognised a tattoo (i cant remember a username but it is quite distinctive trees with a bike, does that sound familiar?).

Meant to say hello but you were talking to the coach and didnt want to interupt.

The best advice is simple – keep pedalling 😀

The accreditation sessions are well coached for a really good introduction to the track. You’ll walk in and shite yourself when you see the banking for the first time, 15 minutes later you’ll be riding on it having a great time!

The music was alright last time but filming it in an empty studio was a huge mistake, just made everything so flat

I have the incremental backups on my main computer, but it is backing up new files from my laptop that i was hoping to do. The music / video files are the same but as they are two different devices the backup drive doesnt know they are the same (if that makes sense)

Maybe something i need to do manually rather than automatic?

The other bid IMO looked stronger in terms of route and location for the grand depart, but it seemed very cobbled together at the last minute (i think Edinburgh council only voted on it yesterday!) unlike the Yorkshire bid which seemed to put alot of work in and lobbying effort over the last year or two.

Having a close relationship with your kids is as important as the quality of their education. Perhaps my education or sporting opportunities would have been better had i been sent to a boarding school but my relationship to my parents would not be so good and i would have lost so much as a result. In any case education is much broader than what happens in academic environment and parents have a huge role to play in that, not just hand off that responsibility to some teachers.

Was in one recently for the first time in ages and i was surprised at how little music there was in the store, it was like an afterthought

Actually the same goes for Fopp, it used to be great and the music selection was exoteric and much cheaper than the big chains – they even their own vinyl press to re-release rare stuff that had long gone out of print and you couldnt even find on the likes of napster or limewire back in the day. However over the years the selection on sale has dropped off and it too has turned into a music shop that doesnt sell much music.

Depends a bit on the frost, if it is dry then you are ok with caution but if there is ice around too then avoid.

Pollok Park doesnt have a notorious reputation, its a lovely park!

The problem it has from a mtb perspective is the marked trails there are so short there is little point riding them

South side of Glasgow (Giffnock, Newton Mearns) to Kilmarnock is about 15 miles by bike, just take the A77 and there is a cycle track down the side.

Largs itself is quite nice. Some good road cycling routes nearby but less good for a mountain bike – although that being said there is some off road riding available, access road to a new windfarm above the town or walking paths at the Greenock cut…it wont be technical riding but good for a spin.

There are (or were) also some downhill routes at the back of Largs, i’ve never riden them though so dont know what they are like.

running on the road or pavement is dreadful but out on the trails it can be fun

My biggest problem though is that running often makes me need to poo desperately, no matter what i eat beforehand or what time a day it is. 😕
