Its worth trying the hire bikes for a bit to see how you like it – you’ll know after a couple of sessions if its for you or not.

In Glasgow the rental bikes were only allowed to be used for racing for the first few months after opening. In any case the gearing on them isn’t really suitable for it – although that being said the juniors can be bloody fast with their restricted gearing, but most adults tend to do better with a bigger gear than is available on the hire bikes.

I’m normally a fan of gore bike wear but there goretex gloves are awful and only suitable for for about an hours riding. After that point i’ve never had a pair of gloves make my hands get so wet – to the extent that its not just feeling a bit wet i can feel the tips of my fingers sloshing about in water and by the time i get home and take them off i turn them upside a stream of water will come out!

Btw there is a west of scotland track training session on 16th March if you or any other gmbc riders are interested…4 hours for £10

A crash every couple of races at the track league a few weeks back…its not usually that bad though.

Ive resigned myself that a crash is inevitable at some point however at the same time in the last 14 months ive done about 2000 miles at drop ins and DST sessions and been in 60+ races and it hasnt happened yet, whereas i rarely go more than a couple of mtb rides without a crash of some sort. Most of the time they are harmless though.

    Yeah tried itunes too.

Its my mums ipad so the photos originally came from her iphone (via icloud which she no longer uses because she had an issue with some other photos disappearing).

Ouch sounds a sore one 🙁

I obviously dont know if this applies to the guys who brought you down but i’ve noticed the riding at the velodrome (drops in and track league) to be pretty erratic the last month or so, far too many scary moments for comfort!

Pretty good as is mountain biker one

Does that training week include everything you are doing or are road miles on top of that? 4 rest days a week is too much.

I have a Moda Forte, i dont have any photos of it though.

Race track league every week in Glasgow (typical night would be 40 lap points race, 30 lap scratch race and either another scratch race or a devil). It is a real mix of adrenaline and endorphins, and obviously hard work too. Do the occassional drop in and structured training session but at the moment the timetable doesnt really suit so not there that often unless im racing. However its a great replacement for turbo sessions, thorougly recommend getting a track bike and riding at a velodrome it can be rather addictive.

I think it is the same sole so presumably just as stiff, however the 74 were a little more forgiving than the sworks in terms of fit as presumably the leather has a little bit more give. Im not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing long term though!

Just a wee update on this – ended up getting myself one as well and i have to say ive been very impressed so far.

Have worn it with arm warmers in temperatures ranging from 2 to 10 degrees with a long sleeve base layer. Its been really good – not bulky so no flapping about and although its a bit cool if standing about it is just right when riding and doesnt get too hot when climbing.

Good for a bit of rain and showers – if it was going to be raining the whole ride then i’d go with a waterproof instead. Also it could do with a zip pocket for phone / keys.

Anyway for once the hype about a product seems to be worth it!

Depends a bit on what the bike is

Personally i’d go for DA on my bikes but if i had a Colnago or something like that then it would have to be Record

Lord of the Rings ls tedious drivel. I split up with an ex because i hated it so much, so it does have a good point i suppose.

    Anchorman

Shaun of the Dead is a bit dull, couple of funny bits but not worth the acclaim. Hot Fuzz is worse

The Evans I use ask for postcode and house number when buying something and they can see the order history from that, worth seeing if they have a record from that?

Seems quite balanced as a talking point article really!

    Its really not though.

Alot of weasel words from Gove about people fighting for civilisation, for freedom, the western liberal order. What does that even mean? It wasn’t like World War 2 with where such an idea can be sustained, of democracy versus dictatorship. In that respect at the time the Germans had universal male suffrage unlike the British!

A ‘sober academic debate’ will argue points of view in a nuanced manner – not just whine on about left wing (or indeed right wing) versions of history like Gove tries to do to dismiss some strawman opponent.

    Finished it this morning.

Really enjoyed the last few miles once i already had the distance in the bag and thinking back over some of my favourite rides of the year. And there have been many to choose from – in total i spent about 22 days on the bike this year!

Its the rule in my club – when the clocks go back guards are on until they go forward again. Its enforced but if someone new turns up for the first time and doesnt have them its not like they will be turned away.

Missed a couple of days so have had to play catch up, up to 70% now so hopefully be able to finish it.

Struggled big time yesterday – about 50 miles in to a 70 mile ride i was tired, cold, wet and miserable then the hail started and what followed was the hardest hour on the bike this year. By the time i got back home i was all ready to chuck cycling never mind the festive 500 challenge. However by the morning was raring to go again!

If I took out a BC bronze membership with provisional license (no points) to try out, assume I can upgrade to silver and a full license if I decide to do a few more?

For some races you need at least a silver membership to be able to race. Probably the sensible option as you get some liability insurance for racing that the bronze doesnt have.

Would recommend joining a club that has members who race in it. Not only will you get the opportunity to guage your fitness against them but you’ll be able to ask for advice and also be told if you are doing something daft/stupid.

I like crits, unfortunately there are very few in the region im in (west of Scotland) so have to do road races which i find much much harder because there are usually hills involved somewhere. I’ve only made it to the end in the lead group in 1 road race in 2 years and regularly get dropped on the summer chaingang when it reaches the only hill on the loop 😳

Not sure if it meets the criteria – it was at least re-released this year and got much wider attention than it originally did a couple of years ago.

Its the tune that i’ll remember summer 2013 by anyway 🙂

Sounds good. May end up getting one for myself too 😀

Is the sizing similar to their jersey sizing?

    Poor show

From their point of view it can be a bit inconsiderate if someone turns up to a club ride way out their depth in terms of fitness or skills despite being told in advance what is expected. When this is the case some people (including myself as ive been in the position before) would prefer to ride on alone and let the group go on at their own pace. Some others say they want this then afterwards complain about the pace being too high and being left behind. I have no experience of the club in question but i doubt they are all dicks and it was as simple as telling her to go on her way and make her own way back to the car without someone at least offering to show the way.

The Sunglass hut at the airport has a good selection but that is past security however i think they may also have a shop in the Buchanan Galleries.

Xscape has Evans and Ellis Brigham both have some as does the opticians in braehead across from boots.

    + for the Renault Avantime

One of my mates had one and it was a strange beast. Basically similar size to the Espace (i think it was a model to give the old Espace factory some work when a new model was being made elsewhere) but was set up like a coupe with a couple of huge doors. Really quite odd but quite likeable. Havent seen one for years now

    Enjoyable video

Was this the job / project that someone put a PSA on here about a few months back?

Thanks. Yes, it was Conquest, so hang around a base with your random team mates I guess. Is spotting the same as using the tactical glasses? That didn’t seem to work at all. Is there any form of difficulty selection?

I’ve not played battlefied 4(or a PS4) but in battlefield 3 you’d spot while looking throught the scope of your gun and pressing select. Sounds a bit more complicated than it is, you quickly become used to doing it and becomes second nature.

I was once in the top 30k players on bf2 (bad company) on the xbox, some would say big deal top 30k, its unbelievable how many people were playing at the time and how many hours some go put in. That took a hell of a lot of playing yo get there, however that was all before reintegration to mtb…

I logged about 600 hours in total on bad company 2 😳 . Which is a bit frightening!

Spin classes are so dependent on who the instructor is.

Some of them will tailor the class directly to cycling and those end up like a group cycling interval session – whereas some will have you doing pressups on the bars and back pedalling and all sorts of nonsense.

thats potential good news then 🙂

Generally id agree dhb but ive recently had bad experience with their shorts. The pads are very thin (particularly at the front) and the lycra goes see through very quickly (less than 10 wears / washes)

    Decathlon is decent value
