At the other end of the spectrum though, how many Tesco Special kids bikes do you see on £300+ Thule racks? I'd never trust anything other than a towbar rack, I like my car and my bikes too much.

I'm going for it, trying to get the lads at work onboard too. If it looks sh*t by the end of the month I'm going to touch it in with mascara.

Generally the worst thing you can see on a microsoft product is the "green light that means it's working"

Parking was atrocious at both the B+B's I've stayed in in york, the best western hotel just outside the walls wasn't too bad price wise or parking wise.

I doesn't look ugly/commuterish enough without some form of rim brakes. You are trying pretty hard with the silver fork crown/dropouts and cranks though

I got an abyss on cycle to work scheme, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised with the build quality and finishing kit… Don't know if that helps..

At least they had the right amount of air in the tyres – just not necessarily in the right order… I picked up my ride to work bike at halfords, the thought of letting them build it never entered my head. The guy who served me wa a really sound roadie type, and he asked me if it was ok to unbox it to have a gander, perhaps I'd have been ok..

My advice is to find a nice road gap over the peloton and try not to crash.

only 11 more Wednesday nights and the DX light will have paid for itself in taxi fares… SPD shoes look odd with casual attire though..

If they're new brakes chances are you'll need to bleed them anyway, and maybe trim the hose. If they're used I'd definitely bleed them. Best investment you can make with any bleed kit is a 20ml syringe, much more control than a squeezy bottle, the flexible hose is available from pet shops (used on fish tank pumps). I'f they're hope or shimano chances are that's pretty much all you need, except a set of worn pads, some fluid (or mineral oil in the case of shimano) and some patience.

Ideally I'd like to keep them upright, I've enough floor space.. Shortcut is that a long and low 30 degrees or high and steep?

I know it sounds insane, but Ikea in Gateshead had some sweet looking 20" bikes, you could even adjust the bb height, I nearlly got one to put in the loft for my mates 6m old son…

I really like my 2.35 high roller front and 2.1 advantage rear combination, the front end has masses of grip to help control any of the (very predictable) slide in the rear. It's pretty good in terms of climbing grip too, the low rolling resistance far outweighing the occasional wheelspin. I ran this combo on my 5 before it got moved over onto the hardtail when I swapped the wheelsets.

To many obstacles in the climbs, that's the problem. All climbs should be like a warming velvet travelator, no tight corners or hinky steps…

Slipstreaming a bus at about 25mph on the bike is tremendously efficient if you can handle the exhaust fumes…

I run a 2.1 Advantage "out-back" with a 2.35 high roller up front, nice combination.

I have standard 2.4's and they're really slow rolling next to my maxxis setup, they somehow manage to feel like they'll tear chunks out of berms on a fast descent while they're like dancing on marbles on a climb. I pinched a couple of times running at my usual 30 psi, so I'm running them around 40… not a big fan to be honest.

My mate's SS. He is supremely proud of it. I got my pictures of him trying this out featured on the On-one homepage :)

I'm tempted to buy a 456 in place of my Genesis Abyss frame…

was itthis guy? I think the only reason to worry is if you're a celebrity.. Kerb side recycling is a pain anyway, I'd sooner sort it myself and have the proper bin emptied weekly and pay less council tax…

Try mounting one of these like a go-pro and tell me how your results look

Snappeda big chunk out of the rail on my I-beam and was forced to ride with the saddle way further forward than I would have liked. This was on an 05 DHI. Your mileage, however, may vary

It just wouldn't have any kerbs or really tight corners on the climbs, or jumps on uphills, or jump too close before or after corners, or fireroad descents. And it would finish at the hub cafe, on a sunny day.

Helmets with lots of vents such as the Giro Skyla, Giro Indicator and Giro Havoc etc. have lots of vents

If you have that much air in there's no way they'll work safely without being bled, it would help if you said what make and model they are. Some hope brakes can be "gravity bled" at a push, but you still need to add more fluid.

If you want to enjoy your wine, and ride in the morning, I hope you have a friend who can lend you whole front brake.

WD40, 3 in one, ride it with no crank bolt on until it falls off.

    Or apply some judicious heat…

aternativelly just hacksaw through the spider etc. right down to the taper, inline with the axle, might be tricky if it's super close to the chain device though

So can any helmet cam, primarilly it's for use in the alps (and snowboarding) where low branches are a little more scarce. I was thinking I could modify an old helmet so it slotted in, in a streamlined fashion. Ok this isn't super safe.. but what price art?

I ended up with one through cycle to work, (I really wanted an altitude but they were sold out)and I must say I was pleasantly impresssed, it's has a nice geometry I can't fault any of the major component choices. The Wheels seem a lot burlier than i really need on a hardtail to be honest and the tyres have a lot of drag, but the frame is nicely detailed, and the fork is superb.

I'm swapping the majority of the parts onto my old sub five to give it a freshen/strengthen up and running the abyss with lighter wheels, tyres, and triple ring setup giving me something considerably quicker, but still able to be pointed at some steep and jumpy trails.

Stil not sure about the colour though, looks better with most of the whiteness removed…

Strangely it took me maybe a 2 years to get round to removing mine even though the windows were smashed and the rear wasn't even working. A tyre patch makes a good cover for the hole. they do save the tops of the lever's in certain "upside down repair" situations..

I also once bought a DH bike in Winter, sorted it, took it to the alps for a week then sold it for a profit when I got back…

I don’t like to start my holiday by having an argument with easyjet staff, even if I’m right. At the current excess baggage rates I can’t afford to be wrong. Also I’m now seasoned at travelling under 32kg.

My big hit gets used more in 1 week in the alps than in the other 51 weeks combined. Daren’t risk my sub-5 as it is so good to ride at home…

The maximum we’ve been allowed is 32kg total. Easyjet don’t weigh your hand luggage however, I got 18kg in mine… I once had to dismantle my multitool at security. Apparently Allen keys are OK, but Torx and Screwdrivers are a no-no. Wobbly multitools aren’t much fun…
