Yep should be standard practice : interview a week before with a charity paid at 35p per mile covering petrol and a wee bit of wear and tear.

As for wooing an international candidate the job was in Scotland does that count?

Cheers for your responses folks : )

+1 for the belter. Brushed Ali frame so no paint to chip, belt drive no oil stained trouse or maintenance, only downs are price and lack of front brake oh and the price!

i’ve been running a 30.9 in a 31.6 frame with a shim (use I think) for about a year with no issues :-)

I did wonder if it might be too loose but feels ok most of the time just a little loose when very cold etc. and having seen pictures of “gloved” ring fingers after climbing accidents was always wary of it being too tight.

Count Zero, careful you’re getting my hope up now : )

bigyin: thanks for the tip, the pembroke prospectors are rallying their ranks and hopefully heading to the beach later!

I’ve also invested in a cheap metal detector from Tesco’s but not sure i’ll bother if the pro’s cant find it.

I’ll update this post in a few days hopefully with some good news : )

Wow some great stories tales giving some hope, thanks!

Wife does know, I was genuinely quite upset when I told her and she took with the usual mix of humour and grace.

Thanks guys it was a bit special and i’d like to replace it like for like but hate the thought of it lying there or being found by someone else.

Figured a cheap metal detector and trip down there might be worth a punt problem is i’m 3hrs away.

Just reporting it to local police on the (v. slim) off chance it’s found and handed in

Is there any thing in what the garage says about the 2.5tdi being an unreliable engine?

I’ve had my 2.5 tdi for 5 years and have had two cambelt failures, 1st was knackered water pump but salvageable engine (i.e. no cracked pistons). 2nd time round after 60k spontaneous cambelt failure despite using genuine parts, reputable garage, new water pump tensioner’s etc. not so lucky new engine time. By the time i’d sold ancillaries, head, block etc. wasn’t too much of a hit but still frustrating i’ll be getting cambelt done every 30 – 40k as this is the achilles heel of the 2.5 tdi engine.

Sounds like you may have a good case against the garage but if they’ve cut corners they’re probably a slippery bunch!

Couple of kettles of boiling water over the offending area, some plus gas and elbow grease? Failing that a blow torch but that might ruin both post and frame, good luck!

It’s pretty boggy, rocky and generalky unpleasant to walk but I’ve only done it in winter and usually in the dark so you may find it ok

I think you sometimes have to ask your network to add this option to your contract if it’s not visible in the settings / not working, shouldn’t be a charge for setting it up

Wasn’t there a set of hope floating rotors in the classifieds recently described as having some play in the rivets ‘but this is normal for these and nothing to worry about’!

is that ‘barefoot’ as in trail glove style trainers? or proper barefoot?

Recently picked up a pair of trial gloves and they took a bit of getting used to but now I really like them. Leak really quickly so prob not the best for muddy wet cold trail running and a bit slippy on wet rock but for dry dusty trails they’re ace

Just back from a blast round Cranham woods and no sign of broken glass in the bomb hole or damage to the two dh runs (stump run and collar bone).

On another note the sawmill have been doing some felling and the bottom half of ‘buckholt sidewinder’ http://app.strava.com/segments/4360000
has been completely trashed. I guess it may work out in the long run making it more open and quicker drying but for the moment it is impossible to ride.

There’s a great film about a slightly overweight smoking journo who was curious to see if he could get a 2hr 20 marathon time. Saw it at mountain film fest a few years back can’t remember the name but recall it being pretty inspirational and interesting too. Will have a look later

Another Kuwahara here looking on the web it was a kz – 1 with the gusset. Also had a Silver Fox with skinny wheels which was nice.

Brother had a SE PK Ripper and recently bought a Quadangle 24″ to relive his youth, shame he’s pushing forty and never rides it

    Great thread

In my limited experience ebay will almost always find in favour of the buyer in these cases and issue a full refund (inc. postage). Like you i’ve had very few problems but after getting burnt will pay the extra 75p or whatever it is for signed for just for personal peace of mind.

Think i’d be a good candidate, over qualified but loads of relevant experience but previous processes have shown me you never know who’ll you’ll be up against so nothing taken for granted.

Spelling and proof reading point taken though

Thanks for the input. Yep flights booked for a week climbing in the Tatra’s so partner’s depending on me. Was definitely afraid of sending the wrong signals about commitment as they’re an employer i’d like to work for and other opportunities will come up, but working for them would require a big move for me and the family and it doesn’t come more committed than that.

Think i’ll prob just give them a call and try and speak to the role manager rather than HR

    Thanks again

Austrian alpine club is highly rated on ukc annual membership is about £40 and gives you a good level of rescue medical and repatriation cover no travel insurance for flights etc but this can be bought cheaply enough from tesco etc

my 2010 medium is 31.6 seat tube frame was a warranty replacement for a cracked 2009 and had a shim fitted so the original 27.2 seatpost could be retained.

FWIW I get on really well with mine, built up pretty heavy with pikes, double & bash, reverb, heavy duty rims and tyres brilliant trail bike but as others have said avoid <2010

How do you tell the difference between a 09 and a 2010?

    I think the difference is
    2009 27.2 seat post
    2010 31.6 seat post
