yep mine works fine too. Chain can be a little slack in smallest gear so you need to be accurate with chain length and line

Guess a lot depends or your ridding style and how much the old peer pressure means to you : ) have you thought about hiring a big bike? I suspect you’d be fine on 95% of stuff. Have fun!

light rub with some wet and dry seemed to do the trick for my disks (wouldn’t want to do it too often but ok occasionally i’d guess) and heating pads over the hob has worked in the past too

Not from there but got family that way so get out occasionally. Fochabers freeride trails are good and there are some nice (if short) trails at Ben Aigen by the mast. Ben Rinnes near Dufftown is a nice ride too.

Not done it myself but there’s supposed to be a nice ride over the Ben of Cullen.

New tyres seem to go up easier and removing the valve cores to get them to seat initially helps. Failing that knock up a ghetto compressor and you’ll be sorted : )

Can’t comment on the rim but the strips seal the spoke holes so theoretically not needed on a ust rim

Sheepskull and the alternative Flatlands start is a nice place to start, GBU has bigger features but all either rollable or avoidable. Corkscrew is rooty and pretty fast but all are good fun. Push ups not too bad at all follow the push up signs from the bottom of GBU, takes about 15 minutes max : )

Loads of off piste stuff if you’re into exploring too

From that Klunking video that was on here a couple of months ago

    here

Klunking is best away from the cops, cars and concrete

[stoned Califorian voice] Klunking is muddy in the winter and dusty in the summer[stoned Califorian voice]

Klunking is like downhill skiing except you don’t get snow in your boots when you fall down

Met Ben on the uplift Cwm Carn last year he had no trouble keeping up with me on my DH bike and him on one of his hardtails, impressive bikes, impressive rider and nice guy to boot!

Yep ridden a few ‘proper’ DH tracks on mine and always had fun just come away thinking this would be better (and more comfortable) on my Socom :-)

160 mate, feels a bit light on the really steep climbs but figured the frames rated at 160 so why not : )

Think either would be fine ( does anyone really notice the 10mm difference ? ) but the extra stiffness is definitely noticeable

As above very capable and versatile bike, perfect for 90% of my uk riding and no overlap with my downhill bike (unlike the Covert which was top of my list).

Here’s a pic of mine in grey just for completeness : )

Not particularly light at over 30lbs but cheap compared to some and readily available

What bout a NP Mega TR? CRC have some good deals on 26″ frames and full builds, although it falls a bit short of your 150mm travel requirement it’s a pretty burly bike in the flesh.

Just back from a great afternoon at Cwm Carn on mine so slightly biased : )

We seriously considered changing our dogs name so we could use his name for one of the kids. We decided that for best results something as close to his name as possible would be best and going from Murray to Worry seemed strangely appropriate for a 2yr old Bedlington who had a habit of causing us stress e.g. eating dark chocolate, being kidnapped by the local ‘crazy’etc. In the end we decided it was more hassle than it was worth and called no. 2 son Artair.

I’m running 160mm pikes on my Mega TR and haven’t noticed any negatives. The extra stiffness of the pikes definitely suits the TR’s descending capabilities.

only ridden mine with 160 pikes so can’t really compare but bike feels spot on with 160’s

Worth fitting a token 5 min job and firms things up at the end of stroke. You may have to adjust the air pressure to compensate

I’ve got 160 Pikes on mine and seems very well behaved on the ups and downs. I know it’s a bit counter intuitive having so much more travel at the front but the pikes do seem to suit this bike and my riding style well.

On another note the standover seems much better than my old Meta and the bike really rewards brakes off, weight forward style riding : )

Afan on a new build, just a few puddles and two fallen tree’s to negotiate in over 32km. FC and Cognation doing a top job there!

Was an absolute beaut of a day very busy car park but only passed a couple of folk the whole day and didn’t have to cue for bike wash. . . nice!!!

Just finished building mine with 160 pikes, car park test ride only so far but medium size feels right for me at 5′ 8”. It is pretty heavy but looks substantial. Proper ride tomorrow at afan so will report back

Hmmm not sure about well paid job for an Audi driver. It was a middle management post and i’m a part time Msc student and taxi driver. . .

No that bothered about the money but every other professional interview i’ve been for has paid enough to at least cover fuel. I guess I was just a bit taken back by the approach of this one employer (though the public sector in Scotland was supposed to be more generous than the down here ; )
