I had something similar. Unable to run for about four months.

One physio told me to start running fast on it which made it worse.

Another physio told me to run slowly on it, but I think in the end cycling and time fixed it.

Supreme court has ruled that presidents have immunity from prosecution. End of democracy?

One problem apparently is that the money raised is for Biden/Harris and can’t just be given to sober other candidate. So they would start with nothing

How old are you? the older you are the harder it is to meet new folk.

My eighty three year old aunt met her ninety year old boyfriend at a speed dating evening a couple of years ago.

Pease pudding is delicious hot, and actually not bad when it’s cold.

I have the earlier Auris estate, hybrid 1.8l engine.

It does about 55mpg, sometimes a bit more. I think newer ones might do a bit more.

The older ones (like mine) have expensive catalytic converters that are a magnet for thieves, so we have an annoying piece of steel welded to the underside – the newer ones are made without precious metals so I would be trying to get one of those if I could.

It’s a very dull place to be but it gets about without any fuss. The way the engine works is kind of spooky and weird – the revs stay more-or-less the same but it just goes faster, no gear change going on, but I quite like it.

Had it for something like 3 years, not yet had anything go wrong other than the annoying catalytic converter anti-theft thing occasionally smacking into speed bumps.

If you’re hoping to show up to a swanky place in Monte Carlo and impress all the supermodels, it’s not for you.

Maybe climate change is a problem, maybe it isn’t. I’m personally of the opinion that we’re all doomed; I live 8m above sea level, my eldest son’s house is even lower than that.

But that isn’t an excuse to go round defacing public monuments just because you feel angry and can’t be bothered to go through the democratic process. That’s a route to a rapid end to the civil society (maybe that’s what they want, I don’t know).

    > So presumably dog flea treatment isn’t a risk-factor for insects, other than those that choose to feed on said dog.

I’m not an expert but I think any insects that come into contact with faeces, urine or fur (e.g. from swimming) are going to be in trouble. These things are systemic so they just sit around inside the animal, killing any and all insect life.

I bought a new ebike battery from them earlier this year. No problems whatsoever, except I now have to work harder to keep up with my wife.

My uncle was a commando at Dieppe, and was picked up by a Royal Navy ship after swimming for a mile (?) after it all went wrong. He never talked about it. Must have been horrendous.

Could you get two of them, glue them together with some superglue and fibreglass, put in a perspex window and have your very own deep sea submersible?

Could go and visit some of the wrecks in the English Channel.

If it’s s hope hub then they do just pull off. But they can be quite reluctant.

Can you see what brand of hub that is? Might be written on the hub shell.

Probably just pull the end caps off and then pull the freehub off.

I used to work with a guy who had been some kind of officer in the Israeli Defence Force (this was a long time ago). His job was looking after conscripts. He said it was completely hateful and awful as they really did not want to be there and spent their time trying to be as unpleasant as possible. He quit.

The best possible thing for the Conservative’s long-term future is to get rid of as many of the current crop of MPs as possible.

They’re quite obviously all complete duffers – something has gone badly wrong in the selection process and the only way forward is to start again afresh with some new faces who can disavow everything done in the last fifteen years.

So Sunak’s goal will be a complete wipe-out at the election – just like when pruning roses, the worst thing you can do is to be too cautious.

For that, he will want to stay in power for as long as possible in order to maximize our loathing for him and his useless self-serving chums.

That was very well done. What is she even doing parading around Cambridge with her GB News buddies? Hasn’t she done enough damage to this country? Can’t she just go away and never been seen or heard of again?

I recently replaced my trusty pixel 4a with a 7a. It takes decent photos of the aurora, battery life is fine except when Garmin connect is running. The extra size over the 4a took some getting used to but it’s ok now

The fingerprint sensor is the one thing that really annoys me. On the 4a it was on the back and just worked always. It’s on the front on the 7a and it’s quite temperamental.

Worst, Marrakesh – absolute cluster trying to leave the country via it, repeatedly checking one’s passport and a terrible lounge. Will never go there again.

Arrivals is just a huge melee, a giant crush of humanity slowly edging towards security to get their passports stamped. It’s just awful.

I would love to go back to Marakkech, and even take my wife (who I think would love it) but I just can’t put her through that.

    Thanks for the replies!

Any chance you could get the three days a week down to 2 once you are settled in?

I had a chat with the person who would be my manager a few weeks ago; increasing the number of days in the office would be no problem….

I’ve just now emailed them to say that I can’t do it. I think it would just be unfair on them tbh. Deep-down I think I know that what I really want is to spend more time walking my dog and cycling.

    life’s too short.

This was kind of what I was thinking.

It something of a dream job in many ways. But….

Right now my commute is about fifteen minutes if there’s a headwind, ten minutes if there’s a tail wind.

That additional 2 hours would inevitably come out of my dog-walking time.

I ran two layers – blue and yellow offset slightly so double thickness but showing both colours. I really liked it, lots of cushioning. Never came unwrapped. Gave the bike away but would certainly do the same again.

How can you potentially be in some national security related role and be so stupid?

They’ve spent a decade choosing only candidates from a shrinking pool of people who believe in the promise of Brexit.

This is what they will be fighting for the next five years: not Labour but their own legacy of terrible choices for MPs. If they are lucky they will be completely wiped out and can start afresh.

The worst possible outcome would be only a small defeat by Labour.

Gravelling SK in 42. Great grip on all the muddy slithey gloop. They have been great even on the most extreme down-country trails of Cambridgeshire and Suffolk.

They do feel a bit slower on tarmac than a 28mm slick road tyre but that’s hardly surprising.

Can you get it to lock through the rear wheel and frame to a Sheffield hoop?

Yes, this is what I do every day at work.

I do worry about how hard it is to go through a Sheffield Hoop though. You can do things like put a chain inside it but I have no idea if the ones at work have this.

I have one of those Litelock D-locks, the ones made from some kind of composite that shreds angle grinders.

Not very light, about 1.5kg iirc but the videos of people attacking them with angle grinders are quite convincing.
