Great cars, nothing else like them. Mine had a lightly tuned Metro engine, was converted to LHD when I took it to Budapest for a couple of years then back again for the UK. Crap heater whichever side you sit!
There’s a guy in Warks who is a genius tuner, builds competition and road Minis. Southam Mini & Metro???
Unfortunately they are getting more and more expensive.

My latest arrived today – UK made Tele copy off ebay for £62! Electrics need sorting but a bargain and still sounds nice.

I nearly went down that route but was told if I like the sound of electric and that’s what I want to play don’t bother with acoustic. That was good advice for me.
Can’t plug h/phones into an acoustic……………

I started playing a year ago having picked up an old Yamaha Pacifica for £80. I used one of the vox plug in amp things with h/phones but soon bought a proper combo amp 🙂
I had half a dozen lessons with a teacher to make sure I knew the theory of playing chords and identify bad habits but have gone it alone since. justinguitar is great, have a look at the various TAB listings, although getting the strumming patern right is the biggest problem for me.
Finally – beware of the world you are getting into. At least as many aftermarket options as bikes, loads of lovely kit to ogle. I’ve just upgraded my Yam – I’m a lefty so not many new options available. All worthwhile, I ‘play’ around 4-5 hours a week.

I like the fit of Loakes but agree quality is not as high as it used to be – does depend on which styles though, some are still made in Northampton.

See if you can find an old Pacifica – the guy who worked on my guitar said they’re far better quality than the new stuff and worth upgrading. Bare Knuckle are expensive – I was told probably too good for the Pacifica!
Squier tele classic vibe is worth looking at.

I looked at the squier CV tele in butterscotch, really nice piece of kit for the money. Opinion seems to be that it’s fine in stock form, could upgrade machine heads and pickups eventually. Apparently the QC is better than the Mexican Fenders too….. Didn’t buy it only because I’ve decided to get some decent bits fitted to my Yam strat and bought a nice little speaker cab 🙂
