That’s very strange! Whereabouts did you find it? Looks a tiny bit like a flint nodule? Perhaps geology doesn’t hold the answer though – what about algae?

isn’t it about time we had a front page poll to see how much people care about strava? There do seem to be an awful lot of people here who REALLY don’t care about strava AT ALL, not ONE little BIT, oh no sir-eee.

I’ll keep an eye out for you, F125. The social aspects make up for the terrible riding in the valley.

You can only make each bullet appear in turn with the use of animations. sometimes a bullet might be removed, but the associated animation isn’t. This could well be a bug, or just an oversight. It’s not a great interface.

I’ve found that it’s best never to include animations in PP anyway. It’s just a distraction from your key message!

oh diddums. didn’t your nappy keep your botty dry?

on a serious note, what was it about Penmachno that you found dull, and where
do you ride that you do find interesting?

I don’t think there is such a thing as a bad trail.

Clearly the only thing that’s hyped in this thread are the poster’s own perceptions of their abilities. All they need to enjoy the trails is a significant injection of speed.

tunnel has been fine for us going out 2 weeks ago (on the Sunday, mind) and returning last Friday. Just turned up about an hour before departure and off we went after about 45 mins delay. I wouldn’t consider using anything else now

I have ridden the 2km school run with my 4yo and 7yo. Mostly down a very steep hill along 2 streets and a main road. Very occasionally I let the kids ride in the road on the quieter streets. However, on the faster, busier road we stick to the pavement. I can’t consider riding the busy road with the eldest for at least a couple of years mostly due to the steepness and the associated speed differential between cars and push bikes

I had zero issues with hans dampf or nobby nics on en521 with stan’s rhino (?) strips

magic mary on a different rim was easy to get on the rim, but difficult to inflate. I had to resort to seating with a tube overnight.

rock razor on the same rim was difficult to get on the rim, but it went up first time with a track pump.

MinorTaur loop 1 at CyB is one of my fave bits of trail, anywhere. Loop 2 and 3 didn’t add a huge amount but it’s a good way for them to get the miles in.

I won’t take my 7yo on anything else at CyB / Marin / similar just yet

How about Lon Eifion? or any of the other sustrans routes in the area?

there’s very little difference between the dielectric properties of water at ~900MHz (eg mobile frequencies) and 2.4GHz (wifi, domestic microwave ovens)

I think people naturally assume that domestic microwave ovens work at 2.45GHz because it’s most efficient for heating water, when in fact it’s the best Industrial Scientific and Medical (ISM) frequency available for even heating of a wide variety of meal-shaped loads

I put a SG rock razor on a couple of weeks ago. it’s been an absolute hoot. The side knobs are much bigger than the HD which really helps in corners, but you get the lower profile of the centre keeps you rolling nice and fast.

The mini enduro i did at FoD was good fun, quite a lot more relaxed than the UKGE i did, but the organisation wasn’t as good imo. just over 1000m for the day over 35km including a practice on each of the 4 sections. I managed to stay on the bike apart from washing the front out once during practice. And yes it was very pedally in sections. very rooty throughout, not particularly rocky though.

Innerleithen UKGE however for example was a completely different story in terms of technicality and scale if you do 2 full days practice and then your race day.

I’m sorry to hear about your ongoing woes. Not nice. And again I’m sorry – this isn’t going to help but I think I’ve been very lucky in that I’ve been able to heal naturally very quickly.

I snapped mine after a taxi pulled out on me as I was overtaking at 15mph in October last year. I took 2 days off, and was back at work the following Monday. I was out of the sling by then. I managed to stay off the tablets which helps apparently. They made no difference when the real pain of bone/muscle hits anyway. The very worst part was the torn muscles all around the area. Getting into and out of bed was really very difficult for 2 weeks. After a week though I was fairly confident that things were going well. I was back on a bike after 19 days. Commuting after 4 weeks. Took it relatively easy on the mtb until about 7 weeks after the accident.

I used those stretchy bands for a bit but realised that the strength was coming back off it’s own accord, and that I had no mobility issues. I also realised that it’s rather difficult to find the discipline to do the full suite of recommended exercises for the duration and frequencies they specify.

It took about 3 months for the pain to go away completely and I’ve not suffered any major lasting issues. The joint crunches a bit but I suspect it’s just ligaments slipping over each other as it rotates.

if you’re in Derby, I’d guess the nearest place to ride that Enduro is Morley/Drum/Castle woods, but you won’t get the best out of it unless you go further up the A6 and start exploring between Belper and Matlock. It’ll compete with DH bikes in that area and you’ll be able to pedal it back to the top. If you’re willing to ride/drive that far then it’s the best way to make the most of the valley.

It doesn’t have to have everything the enduro has but I think you’re on the right track if you’re after a brand new bike. But there is a ridiculous amount of choice these days so to suggest one bike, or even 5 would be missing out on loads of great value, well performing bikes.

Do rigorous research at the outlets of your choice based on whether you’re going to service it yourself or get them to do it. because every 6 months it’ll need to be in bits so that you can replace all sorts of expensive stuff.
