I grew up in Llynfaes but I’ve long since moved away. I was however hoping to complete your challenge at some stage in my life. Good luck with it!

my Minion DHF on the rear went the same way. I think the bead must get mangled.

Ergon BE1 has a back protector, and really good adjustable fit. I think you can buy a protector for the BE2. The downsides are ‘only’ 1.5l water and pretty minimal storage. very tidy though

Graham S – I must admit I did a bit of a double take with the stat you quoted. The page no longer exists.

    @ sharkattack

I’ve had a Magic Mary on the front, and a DHF on the rear. The DHF now has a 10mm bulge over about 200mm. Considering replacing with another Mary on the back. How are you finding it for rolling/climbing etc?

Pretty sure it’s the best this year. Easter was great in N Wales this year and last but this pips them both in terms of duration, sun, temps, and almost no wind

I’ve split both a small and a medium at the crotch and I’ve got a 28″ waist. I’d get something else instead.

well done to anyone who took part in this. super tough and perhaps the best round yet according to many.

    S5:

Kimbers – only now have I realised that you were my 20 second man – nice to meet you! I think you heard me whooping on S3. I was just pleased to get down it without incident. More than I can say for S1, 2, and of course 4 (“after you” “no after YOU” etc. I’ve got a lot of of work to do if I’m to be competitive at these events. We’ll be embarking on a full programme of trail building this winter. I could have done with a second day of practice too.

I’d heard it was nearer 50km. Great bunch of us going, The forecast seems to be pretty good. Preview of stage 2 looks like it has a bit of ClimachX descent? stage 4 looks fun. Can’t wait for stage 5 too.

hey legend – do you know them all personally?

and please correct me as to why they thought insurance was necessary.

I’m guessing that a majority of those that were complaining on threads about the price/insurance/FF rule had no idea of the scale of the events, the severity of some of the stages (hence the need for more rigorous insurance stipulations), and the challenges in making unique stages for that weekend. It’s clear that some aspects of the series could have been better but I’m disappointed by the attitude of some on here who are more than ready to stick the boot in.

Sounds like SP has had one hell of a year. I congratulate him on what he and the team have achieved and wish them well for the future.

I’d stick aggressive tyres with large side knobs on front and back, with pressures as low as you dare.

Brake on the approach to the corner whilst the bike is upright.

Whilst keeping your torso flat and low as possible, chin up, elbows out, outside leg forward, look as far ahead out of the corner as possible, and really lean the bike as much as the camber and tightness of the corner dictates

Practice smashing that type of corner until you feel progress, increase your pressures afterwards to protect your rims.

    In my experience……..

if you get off the bike and walk purposefully towards them, making plenty of noise, they disperse.

Don’t be too aggressive or you may cause them an injury as they turn and flee.

Be mindful that you do not place yourself between young calves and their mother.

Horns are not necessarily an indication of danger.

Surgery was never suggested as an option for me. I didn’t need the sling after the 5th or 6th day. Keeping my hand in my pocket did the same job and I was a bit more presentable at work. I was also able to make do without the pain killers after the first few days especially after they said try to avoid the NSAIDs. I didn’t get on that well with the cocodamols. I had my first ride after 18 days and returned to commuting after 21 days. No long term issues other than a bit of clicking in the ligaments when I rotate the joint.

I’m under the impression that if you can avoid surgery, then do.
