PM me if I can help with refreshments/food. I’ll be somewhere on your route near Silsden/Skipton

I feel there’s acceptance from the walkers on all the cheek I frequent that it is used by MTBs. Only a tiny percentage of encounters are ill-mannered. The vast majority are very well natured, and typically you hear “rather you than me / how did you get up here on that / you’re all mad / have fun!” being the order of the day.

I did the Freemotion No Sherpa tour, 45 km from the centre to the coast, including some short hike a bike sections, and lots and lots of rocky descending in spectacular scenery, some of it pretty gnarly, and some nice natural flowy stuff too. Plenty there to warrant a 160mm bike

    This you mean?

“To enable cycling and horse riding on footpaths to occur under the same conditions as those provided for cycling on bridleways under section 30 of the Countryside Act 1968. These provisions allow for cycling without placing additional burdens of maintenance and liability on the local authority; and they prioritise the ordinary users of those paths. Whilst it would not place additional liabilities or maintenance burdens on local authorities, it would enable them to plan and implement surface and furniture improvements to routes that would add most value to the rights of way network. It would place the onus of checking the suitability of individual paths on users.”

I’m on my second set of Eastons now as they were £10 at CRC, not that the old ones had worn too much, either.

I’m quite impressed with how loud it is, but you’ll need to consider how to prevent the burglars from simply snipping/unplugging the cables

The new 12″ that they released at FD is also excellent

the two Machynlleth stages were only accesible on the race weekend but the Dyfi forest is open and relatively easy to put something together, although you’d be looping around a fair bit to get your 20 miles in

I completely agree about Humphrys. Old man yells at cloud. I don’t need it at that time of day.

Hussein and Webb do a good job

I like Naughtie. I don’t like Sarah Montague.

    Eddie Mair is fantastic though

You need to give it the best chance of finding as many satellites as possible. Where do you keep your phone? Thigh or chest pockets are no good as there will often be a big chunk of you to prevent transmission of the signal. Best spot is high up on a back pack, or in a wrist/shoulder pocket.

    I’m in.

Was one of the Mach stages raced last year at BES?

I think we did Ceinws S2, 3 and 4 in 2015 UKGE nat champs and WGE

It’s perfect out there at the moment, no nettles, brambles, bracken or mud. Wide open. Tremendously fast. All that dust looked amazing with our lights.

my kestrels are stiff! I still get blisters on one heel if I have to walk more than a mile or two. They’re my first boa shoes, but they won’t be the last. In true five ten style a hole has developed in the sole by the toe, but they have been used every day on mostly short road commutes for 6 months

It’s what usually happens when I contribute to a thread.

A common complaint for any 42t cog user is that the chain comes off when you pedal backwards (i.e. it comes off “the rails”)

It’s a job best left to a well-set up and functioning derailleur

I ended up using a rad cage on the xt mech. everything has been solid since then. no reversed b screws and no derailment when pedaling backwards

I did Rheinigidale loop anticlockwise, with the descent into Rheinigidale superb. The Maraig descent was a bit windy. I’m hoping to do it both ways when I head back there in early April. Might also explore some of the tracks between Huisinis and Tarbert

In Stornoway itself, there are a couple of short tracks in the grounds between the the castle and the gold course, with some decent tabletops, small drops and berms.

Gotta love STW sometimes. I was in the area on Sunday so I chanced smoky jo’s route. Cracking ride despite limited visibility! Thanks all.

you’re correct jairaj, but I wouldn’t want to go beyond 60mm, and easton’s 35mm diameter stem only comes in a 50mm length. Raceface do a 60mm, but rotating bars is a lot cheaper.

for what it’s worth the new tracer’s wheelbase is 32mm longer. I’m guessing that at least half of that is down to the HA being 1° slacker?

Just thinking aloud really as I’m feeling that something isn’t quite right with my position on the steepest tracks, and hoping that by stretching myself a little bit I can grant myself a bit more stability from my core, and relying less on my shoulders

I’m considering effective reach (?), so horizontal distance from BB to grips.

I’ve got the Easton Havocs, 9° backsweep, 5° upsweep btw. Fairly low rise. I’m 5’9″ on a medium 2014 Tracer, so on the cusp of needing a large

I’m guessing the difference between the faceplate clamped on 0, and clamped on 2 is probably about 5-10mm higher and 15-20mm forward. Off to ride some steeps tonight and I might report back if it goes well.

Central Notts. Whichever way I go it’s 19 in less than 7km, with about half of them being pedestrian crossings. Journey avg speed ranges from 23 – 37kph depending on how reckless lucky I am

I did the Preseli Vertebrate publishing route when I stayed in Newport. It has potential to be a great ride if conditions are good. Still a 45 minute drive from Bluestone though.

Strava heatmap suggests a number of ne’er-do-wells have ridden the coastal paths near Marloes and St Davids

The best time to do Snowdon is when the weather is good

This was on December 28th. It was quite busy, not that it mattered. Use common sense to avoid the busiest times, regardless of the time of year. Up Llanberis path well within 2 hours, then down Rangers and then Telegraph, where I sliced my front tyre……
