I’m signed up for the Bio- bank study which seems to be similar – had all the tests years ago.  Follow up questionnaires periodically on a range of things – and invite for further scans but the nearest centre is in Cheshire which is a long round trip for us

These big longitudinal studied are massively useful so if I ever get the chance I’m happy to sign up

I don’t get on with anti-histamines so I use prescription nasal steroid spray.  Only use over sprung summer when I’m suffering worst – huge improvement for me

Banning postal votes would be suicidal lunacy for the Tories.  In the locals we were about equal with the Tories on postal but won significantly in every box. Same in almost all wards – postal voters are usually older therefore significantly more likely to vote conservative.

Clarke- Smith is basically making a very ill informed dig re mayoral elections and allusion to postal voters fraud. He knows the Tory party will not stop postal voting and so is safe I making Trump style unfounded statements

We had issues with our charger – Sync EV not OHME.  It would shut down and restart.  Spoke to the Sync EV helpdesk who checked it remotely and said it was voltage going out of range.  They increased the tolerance as much as was safe which reduced the frequency of the issue but did not solve completely.  Then Northern Power did some work at one of the local substations and a load of re-cabling and that seems to have sorted the issues

We are not rural but right on the fringes so maybe it is a thing

I only ride full suss now because my back is **** and even XC messes it up on a hard tail for any sort of longish ride.

My bike is from a few years ago when “down country” was the thing it’s  a Whyte S120 C RS I think.  Plenty enough for my riding, not sure there are many  equivalent short travel relaxed geometry options now – but I’m not exactly up on what’s available

Terminator and Terminator 2 – but they are just good movies.  In fact lots of Arnie films,  Totally Recall, Twins, True Lies etc.

@kamakazie The 27 Crags App is worth a look.  It’s a bit hit and miss and some popular crags are behind paywall but Slipstones is on there with quite a lot of topos.

I would always look to UKC for access issues and any other sensitivities. Eg There is a restricted access note on Slipstones

Took 3 boulders to blow through my skin today – coming off the back of a comp on Saturday though and very little outdoor climbing because of the endless pissing rain

Noel Sharkey (yes him off Robot Wars also a serious academic) has been warning about autonomous and semi autonomous machines used in military and policing for ages

I saw him give a lecture ten years ago it was prescient.

Just finished watching it.  I really enjoyed it – most of the major plot points are in there and the changes in the characters don’t bother me massively.  I do worry whether seasons 2 and 3 will actually get made though.  Season 1 cost $160m and it will cost a lot more as it gets more and more spacey.

Full EV car get plugged in when it gets to about 30% or so. 4 hours cheap overnight at 7 kW gets it back up to c70/75%.  This is weekly or so.  If long journey then we just charge to 100%

New PHEV van – every other night – empty to full at 3.5kW charging takes 3.5 hours give or take. Get about 30 to 35 miles from a full charge if I’m careful.  Pretty much enough for two days –  mostly running on full electric so far, but it does need to run the petrol engine periodically so I’m not too zealous

I’ve read the books. Mrs OD hasn’t – watching the show together is an interesting test of those two perspectives.

I think it’s fine so far 1.5 episodes in – not brilliant but good enough so far.

The earlier Chinese TV adaption is on Prime – I’ve not watched it but it’s supposed to be follow to the books more closely.  Just checked 30 episodes and bizarrely some are included in prime and some are pay to view

Loaded with 2 bikes wheels on ( one is an XL 29er full suss) and 2 surfboards (one is a 9’6″ longboard).  All fits comfortably with room for some bags. I left one of the rear seats in, with that out then they’ll be loads more room.  This is our maximum personal loading scenario so plenty big enough for us.

Need to get a groundsheet to use as a liner and a cargo net

Seats are easy enough to get in and out, but you wouldn’t want to be doing it everyday

I believe the six seat option has seat mounted belts so you can spin the second row to have conference seats when driving.  Same price as 7 seat.

Ultimately it’s a massive 7/6 seat mpv with car rather than van sensibilities.

It’s bigger that a Sharan.  Almost as big as my old Trafic – 10cm shorter and 1.5cm narrower.  It’s got a longer bonnet so not quite as big inside, but still huge for a car.

Multivan turned up 6 months early.  Had it for a week now.  First impressions – very nice, extremely comfortable  – but coming from a Renault Trafic panel van so not surprising it’s so much more refined.  Genuinely car like to drive, super smooth in electric mode (got PHEV). Not done any longer journeys yet but happy so far.

Going climbing at the weekend so will take out the back row of seats to make room for bouldering mats and other crap we always seem to haul and still be able to carry 4 passengers by sliding forward the seventh seat into the second row.

I’ll see how well the bikes and surfboards fit whilst I’m moving seats around

I’ve just been moved from shell to octopus. Not unexpected but didn’t get an email was just redirected when I went onto the Shell Energy App.

I’ve got an Octopus compatible smart meter so I’m not sure whether I need to submit meter readings or not   I’ll phone them tomorrow as I want to switch to Go anyway

Looking at my account it may be that the account was transferred on the date of the last Bill which would make sense

It’s turned out as a proper competitive 6 nations – a real levelling of the teams in post world cup phase. Even Ireland showing weakness against a well constructed game plan and hard pressing physical defence.

Disappointing for Ireland maybe, but need to be challenged to improve and remain competitive against NZ and SA

What do people think about school choice – was it better back in the day where catchment area determined school (essentially primary school catchment as it flowed through), or is an, albeit flawed, system of choice better ?

I don’t have kids so never had to go through it.

I thought it was pretty good.  Not so much in the way of character development – but it’s really about the chaos in the health service as the pandemic first hit, drama is a vehicle for exploring that rather than the characters as such

I’m 57 – nothing wrong with reminiscing, I’ve done a lot with those years.

But equally I’m very forward looking, Still pushing my climbing grades, just started a new academic major challenge.  The body and mind may be older and not as quick but are  more skilled and experienced

Basically you can pick any vaguely  sensible training plan.  Just having a plan and turning up is 80% of it – unless you’re already an athlete and need something specific.

I had a friend who did hard 75 – she thought it beneficial not just physically but the discipline of routine.  Bit sad for her when the rest of us were having a beer though

Jusant is on Xbox game pass, I’ve played it, pretty chill experience.

There’s a lot of good stuff on game pass, it’s well worth a look, especially if you’ve not previously bought a lot of games.  I think there’s a PC only version?
