Why do I pay the same for a lousy 1 Mbps BT download speed out here in the country as others getting 10X that and more?
I hate BT, and if I change supplier I’m still stuck with BTs copper wire designed for 20th century telephones!

Haven’t shaved since Jan 1st. I like the look and so does my GF, despite the grey bits! :-)

Yes, an absolute genius. “A woman’s work” on a decent hifi is just wonderful. Middle aged? My 25 year old GF is an even bigger fan than me.

Humax HDR Fox T2 – had one for two years now and a great piece of kit – quality picture and faultless recording. YouView is OK if you have a good broadband speed, otherwise forget it!

BT – I really hate that company! How come they still have a monopoly (those with a Virgin cable to their house excepted, obviously) on our phone lines in this modern age?

My GF has gone back to smoking weed to help her through the final year of her university design degree, or so she tells me! I have to say that I’ve definitely notice a difference in her general attitude to life, as well as obvious signs (to me, at least) of mild paranoia in the mornings.

Even my GF thinks the Juke looks sh*t – end of discussion in my opinion :-)

My ancestors came over with the Norman conquest, apparently. Unfortunately their offspring failed to remember their original language and as a consequence my linguistic skills are confined to bits of Broad Yorkshire – actually quite useful when talking to the local farmers! :-)

Saw the news tonight and the winner had gone public on his huge win. Oh dear, I fear it can only end badly for him!

We had a purpose built link all electrified between Sheffield and Manchester called the woodhead route, now closed dismantled and used by natioanl grid and the water companies for a cable pipe run,

Boxed items usually have a higher value. If a shop/dealer makes you an offer for the whole lot I trust you would obtain an alternative valuation before you proceed with the sale.

John, you are doing exactly as I did. You haven’t interfered with the BT line into the NTE5 backplate and have no extension wiring connected. No wonder you are baffled, because I sure am!

He was possibly the original champagne socialist, but I couldn’t fault his complete commitment to his cause and his personal integrity would put every modern politician to shame. RIP.

I’ve seen Cream uvpc windows recently which looked good, just to throw an other option in the pot.

    Definitely an option, thanks.

I do some work for a big uPVC manufacturer. The coloured foil uPVC is very much the thing at the moment.

Binners, thanks for your contribution. So is the grey a coloured foil? I ask because the woodgrain sh*t we have now is delaminating in places on our south facing windows, where the heat is intense in summer here in sunny Yorkshire. Is this a general problem with foil or are our current windows an exception?

Grey has got to be better than that awful $h1t-brown plastic wood effect!! Am I the only female to fancy grey windows?

Thanks, Lady G, your description of my current wood grain effect windows is spot on, and my GF is ahead of me in advocating grey ones. Having said that, I’m the one who lies awake worrying about selling the house in the future if we go for grey, hence my OP.

The architect I’m using for the extension was all in favour of grey window frames – well he would, wouldn’t he?

However, I have to tell you all that he was preaching to the choir here, as both my partner and me both have design/art backgrounds and love the idea of grey windows, but know we’ll have to sell the place one day, hence my OP.

I can’t think of any woman I know who wouldn’t veto a house with grey plastic Windows

Thanks, richc, that’s what I was worried about, it’s always the women who have the final say :-)

Giffgaff’s signal is lousy where I live, despite being in an O2 (their provider) good reception area. Only use it because I get free calls/texts with my GF!

If you liked The Wire, the books by George Pelicanos are brilliant.

Watched The Wire for the second time earlier this year. Enjoyed all but the final season, which seemed even less plausible this time around than it did the first.

OK John, I understand, but still think the one you have must be faulty. Mine gave a marginal improvement in broadband speed over the ASDL dongle it replaced.

To be honest, John, I hadn’t seen that particular BT product before. The ADSL filtered faceplate I fitted was this, which plugs directly into the test socket on my BT NTE5 and had therefore no need to interfere with the BT side of the fitting.

OP, I don’t think most of the above posters understand just what it is you are doing. I do, having recently fitted a ADSL faceplate into my BT NTE5 master socket.

I take it you are comparing the NTE5 test socket direct from your BT external line with a ADSL filter plugged in, and without any internal wiring connected, with the ADSL faceplate plugged into the test socket, again without any connection to any internal wiring. So I guess it must be the faceplate. Which make are you using? Mine is by ADSLnation, which had good reviews. I could have got one for half the price elsewhere.

I have a relatively expensive Nordost digital interconnect cable between my streamer and DAC/preamp, and guess what? It sound about the same as the cheapo cable it replaced, and I have ears like a bat! (Well, only in appearance terms :-))

It isn’t a race, so just eat anything you like, whenever you like. If you lose a few minutes as a consequence, why worry?
