[/quote]Private Eye is incomprehensible unless you know who they are talking about.

Agreed, you need to be a subscriber to appreciate it. Some of the references go back to Peter Cook’s days: Jammygoldfinger, p94, Brenda et al. It’s still funny, though.

I retired very early and am bored out of my mind – bad move! Beware the lure of “green grass” OP.

Private Eye have published quite a few Islamist cartoons over the last year, maybe falling short of referring to the great prophet himself, though. Not entirely relevant to the thread, but thought I’d throw it in.

Just had a similar situation: 4 bids on a frame I’m selling and all at the starting price. Turns out the guy is in South Korea with no eBay feedback history, despite my “UK bidders only” note. Hard work eBay sometimes!

I’ve also been looking at the Leveno S8, after the two recommendations above, to replace my useless Nexus 7, but I now see there is a S8-50 as well. Is this the new version or the old one? Only the processor appears to be different as far as I can tell, although the S8 has the Intel Atom which I believe is highly regarded.

Can’t stand the guy, good riddance!

I think this is dangerous territory. These innocuous events might seem like fun within the family, but try explaining them in the interview room at the local police station!

I won’t let my girlfriend’s six year old boy get into our bed for a cuddle with us unless my genitals are covered with some sort of clothing. It’s a sorry state of affairs, I know, but look at all the people who’s lives have been ruined as a result of spurious peodofile witch hunts!

3D/Smart seem to come as standard on large, top of end TVs – they did on mine. You may struggle to avoid them!

I sincerely hope that if I ever have the misfortune to appear before a court of law in this country that the jury isn’t comprised entirely of STW members :D

“I stand with Charlie Hebdo, as we all must, to defend the art of satire, which has always been a force for liberty and against tyranny, dishonesty and stupidity”

As a longtime Private Eye subscriber I agree wholeheartedly.

I haven’t read this thread, but just heard about this on R4 News. Such events will only fuel the rise of a right wing reaction across Europe, of the kind we have seen recently in Germany. This is all going to end very badly!

You have my sympathy, OP. I started with knee pain 10 years ago, after years of good club standard running. Arthroscopy didn’t help and I resorted to running only on level grass – lap after lap around the local school playing field – running was a drug and I needed my daily fix! Last year I had to stop doing even that as the pain became unbearable, and even walking is now painful. I have refused every offer of knee replacement, preferring to hang on to my own body parts, no-matter how decrepit! I wish you well, OP, but based on my own experience be prepared for disappointment. Having said all that, I can still cycle on fairly easy terrain, but my knees can’t handle tricky technical stuff anymore.

DB Poweramp is £26; EAC is free: Is there any advantage to using the former over the latter?

DB Poweramp just works perfectly, and very easy to customise. I tried all the free stuff before this and it was well worth the payment. But then, my HiFi system cost well over £10K, so £26 is back pocket change by comparison :D

    +1 DB Poweramp.

Rusty, I’m confused! After my Nexus 7 proved to be total s**t, I’m now looking for a new tablet. I though the Levino S8 was Android. Did I miss something here?

I haven’t seen the new year in for years. I figure it will still be there in the morning when I wake up, so why stay up late for it! :-)

I feel your pain, OP. It’s happened to me and I now park at the far end of the carpark away from any other cars, even though it might mean a long walk!

+1 Aldi. I have a second pair in the car, nice and grippy and toasty warm on cold mornings.

Thanks, Stoner et al, for confirming my fears. Given that the replacement motherboard didn’t cure the fault, could I safely put both boards up for sale?

Set aside sum you can comfortably afford to lose, say £20K, and play the equity markets with it – great fun!

I’m a big XT groupset fan, having run nothing else since my first MTB in 1998. Never had a problem with their hubs either. In fact, my original 1998 hubs, which still run freely without any play, are about to go on Retrobike Forum soon. :-)

Had a £300,000 house on the market for ages up here in sunny West Yorkshire. That means £5000 stamp duty now against £9000 before. Let’s see if it makes any difference. Sadly, though, I paid £12000 stamp duty on the house I bought last year!

My Nexus 7 Mk 1 (still on Kit Kat) freezes constantly and thus has to be reset, and won’t play YouTube without buffering half the time – a useless piece of sh*t. Wouldn’t recommend Nexus to anyone. Might give the Hudl2 a try, thanks guys.

This guide worked for me when using an old Homehub2 as access point to my Homehub4.

AVForums classifieds are excellent, and very tightly controlled, but you need to be an established member. As a newbie you may have to be prepared to send the goods prior to receiving payment. This might sound crazy, but if you are dealing with an established member with a sound trading history you will have little to fear.

.You won’t get a BT router to work as an access point

I have BT Homehub2 acting as access point to my Homehub4 – lots of articles online to show you how.
