How big is the stump (i.e. type of tree and girth of trunk at base)?

It’s about 12″ diameter, tree species unknown – it came with the house I’ve just bought. Apart from being a Yorkshire tighta**e, getting a digger to it could mess up the rest of a mature garden.

£12000 on a pair of ATC SCM 50 Tower active speakers in piano black lacquer. At least they cured my upgrading addiction and sound better than anything I’ve every heard!

If you use Shimano 15mm or 20mm axle front hubs the lockrings come with the hub.

    The retro market is massive

    Absolutely correct.

I recently broke up a 1998 Kona and sold every last part. In many cases, within minutes of posting on Retrobike.

No problems at all, just takes a little longer to arrive than CRC.

    Old country saying:

” If you wish to thrive then rise at five…….those who have thriven rise at seven”

Total bollocks, but I rise at five anyway

Morrisons’ own-brand decaf tastes OK to me – but I’m just a tight-wad Yorkshireman, so what do I know.

The Wire was the best thing I’ve ever seen on TV (but had to watch it with sub-titles!) The Sopranos was be a very close second.

Good for them, and the tie up with Boardman didn’t do them any harm, did it? Might just have a look at the shares !!

Simple, pay a huge chunk off the mortgage! Any IFA would tell you that.

I threw the former in to show I’m not stuck in a time warp with Dylan!

I entirely agree. I recently sent back about 10 items I had bought and never used (don’t ask), some dating from last summer and nearly all on separate invoices, and received a full refund without any questions asked. Excellent service!

They may be the same factories that Trek uses in some cases

It may well be made in the same factory, but I know about costing a product and how goods are designed down to a pricepoint – you only get what you pay for in this world.

The only carbon frame I would trust would be one from one of the major players like Trek, for example, with a huge R&D division and computer modelling of the laying up/forming process. Riding a cheapo frame is like cheap insurance – the only time you realise it’s no good is after the crash!

+1 on the Aldi gloves. I keep a spare pair in the car for mornings when everything is frozen solid. The gel stuff on the palms grip the stearing wheel really well.

Sorry to hear about the theft of your bike. With quality kit like this it looks like someone followed you home one day!

No pics yet, but I have a 1998 Hei Hei Ti with the original, but by now trashed, groupset. I was going to sell the frame as I have new Ti hardtail on the way, then I thought ‘no way I’m selling this’, so I’m re-building it with a newish s/h XT groupset (inc V-brakes) and rigid P2s.

I’ve run full XT groupsets for 13 years now without the slightest hiccup in any department. Just bought the latest 10sp XT for my new hardtail build.

    Have you been to Halifax?

    What a dump

Can’t argue with that, but there is some good hill riding aroung the Colne/Holme valleys

OK in summer with the canal towpath and greenways along the old railway tracks. No chance in winter unless you have some serious lights and beware that some of the tracks run through some pretty scary parts of town after dark.

3 DAY LYCRA KNICKERS – make the leg holes the same size as the waistband and every day turn them through 120 degrees.

Ask the wife if she thinks it’s a brilliant idea !!

Just bought a pair of Aldi £4.99 specials. Looks like a real bargain, although the word “BIKING” written across the back in reflective letters is a bit of an embarassment!

If you are over 40 it may be the onset of arthritis. In most cases of neck pain a more upright position helps. Wider bars could mean you are in very slightly more head down position

Welcome to God’s country, my friend. Lots of great riding here, but you have to be prepared for quite a bit of (hilly) road sections to join up the dots.

Maybe, but it’s not as good as XT is now

Exactly my point, because XT will also have moved forward over a 10 year period, probably to where XTR at the time.
