Cheers all. I ordered some and some V12 in the end so I could look at both in flesh. The Tags look decent so I’ll give em a whirl and put them on my old bike but the DMR I’ll stick with for now on my newer one.

@ahsat – yes Stage 1, they aren’t that close but close enough, just happened to be staying across road from them a couple of weeks ago so popped in and they were really nice to deal with. They have actually offered me a nice build on a Ragley Marley too but not sure it’s what I’m looking for.

Cheers all def some food for thought, some alarming comments as well!

Cotic I would def happily deal with again as they were brilliant with my Flare Max. Pace seem to get mixed reviews on service but Ive always fancied one.

Just wanted to buy from a local brand or from a local shop and these are what’s available that I liked the look of.

Ive actually considered a Scale – been to look at one that was on the classifieds that is seriously kitted out and mega light but out of my budget unfortunately, especially if going second hand. So a Scale is def an option I’d consider but Ive not seen one locally available new.

    Cheers

I’d never watched any of them until just after they released VIII, refused to as I’d seen bits of the originals growing up and never got into them, or got the attraction.

Then I decided to watch then and got a bit obsessed with them and have watched them all multiple times. However, I definitely have a bit of a different favourite list. So thought I’d give my view as someone later to the scene but not a youngster by any means.

    I’d go:

    9
    7
    6
    3
    4
    8
    5
    1
    2

Rogue one was really good, still not seen Solo, Mandalorian decent.

I watched 8 and then 7, which got me into it then watched in release order.

I’d happily watch any of them though, just prefer the ones at the top and I love 9,7 and 6 in particular.

I got my daughter a “very good” refurb from music magpie. A first gen iPad Pro and it has been brilliant so far, 18 months in. Couldn’t tell it wasn’t new apart from it not having the accessories and original box.

Was pretty impressed so got her a phone too, which had a glitch in the screen after a few days, sent it back and they sent me a new one straight away that has been great.

Worth a look as I think I only paid £240 for the Pro.

I just got a Roberts 320 for a surprise Christmas gift to replace the Denon Envaya mini I had that died eventually.

I had been looking before the missus bought me it and was actually looking at the Dali Katch which is a chunk dearer than what I got and had great reviews (plus I have Dali stand alone speakers for my main system). So the Dali may be a good shout. I also looked at the Technics Ottava Sc30 and Sc50 as there were some on offer at big discounts (prob for a good reason). Anyway Peter Tyson have the SC50 in white reduced from 699 to 299 so that might be worth a look too?

The Roberts by the way is very good. It’s basic in that it pretty much just streams but the sound is great. The 330 gets EQ and other inputs.

I got a Flare Max a few weeks ago and was in between Small and Medium, at 173cm.

Went small after speaking to Cotic and really glad I did, would have been too stretched on a medium. Plus on the small I could run a long enough dropper to still get the post well out of the way. Still feels pretty long with a 35mm stem and cut down bars.

The Orange is ace too, last minute switch from red, but love the sparkly finish!

Great stuff everyone, keep them coming, really appreciate the advice.

I must have been a cheapskate if I can’t remember Independent trucks, although the folks probably footed most of the bill, think a full set up back then with a Powell Deck, NMB bearings, Gullwings and some Santa Cruz bullets was over £150 – they seem pretty good value now at a similar price!

Ha ha. Gullwing Shadow and white Pro III From what I remember – which these days is very little. Was early to mid 90s though not 80s. Can remember the brand name being on the bushings. Pretty sure I ran rails as well and fly tape.

    Cheers everyone, some great pointers.

Like the look of several of those mentioned and will def get some wrist guards, prob use my Dainese mtb knee and elbow pads. Is a proper skating helmet recommended or will MTB lid be ok to start?

What happened to Gullwing trucks, that was the go to when I last bought some, can’t even remember Independent!

I don’t really ride much steep stuff.

Riding is mainly bridleways and tracks through woods, occasional peaks rides and the odd trail centre (maybe 2 a year). I’d describe them as generally rock based and wet, wooded areas are very rooty and prone to mud. I don’t ride anything too severe though but it’s very hilly. I’ve never ripped a tyre (touch wood) and usually ride standard EXO Maxxis or snakeskin Schwalbe.

Happy to just go with more Maxxis but I’m tempted to give the Trail Kings a whirl if people have good experience with them. I want a tyre to use all year really- done the switching and generally just prefer to fit once and leave!

I have the same with Wiggle today. Parcel due today but no update at Hermes since 27th. I used the chat function on Wiggle and they started an enquiry with Hermes straight away. Says if no update within 3 days to recontact. The lady I was chatting to suggested at that point o would be refunded or a new item sent if it had not been resolved.

Note the chat on a laptop web browser worked fine but on a phone it was useless and just crashed.

Are the Pirelli tubeless? If so have you punctured with tubes or set up tubeless?

I have Senderos as well on my Tempest. I really like them and I don’t find them that bad on the road if you are doing something that is tilted more towards off road. I’ve taken them down some pretty rough tracks too and they have been good, great in the slop. I run them low too – 25-30 and they are really comfy.

Watching this with interest though as it’s that sloppy now that I’m adding more back roads and non puddle rid sections, so considering something a bit faster but still good for off-road and able to handle some slop. The Resolutes Id have gone with but at 42mm I don’t really see the benefit of using 650b. Those Pirelli look interesting in 50mm though, might have a crack at those when I have some spare cash. I think you want to go 47mm minimum or you might as well stick a 38/40 on a 700cc. Bigger than that on a 700 for me just seems like a lot to spin up for a gravel bike. Terravail look nice too.

I used to run Bontrager Mud X before wider wheels. They were brilliant, very narrow by today standards though, they used to look odd after running 2.2s all summer back then.

But they were amazing in the mud, and pretty good on everything else too, very light so def XC.

I’m fact maybe I’ll try get some on the gravel bike.

    I’m 5’8 and on a medium.

If I was using it as a road bike I’d have been potentially better on a small with a normal stem.

I use it more off road where possible so with the shorter stem I’m running (80) and bit of height the medium has over the small I’m very comfy on it. I think the small might have given a too aggressive position for gravel use.

I’m usually right in the cusp of road bike sizing between 52 and 54 if any use.

Just been out today on mine – love it, it’s a great bike – really comfy and really quiet running rival 1x and 650b wheels with some Senderos tyres at low pressure. Still feels quick on road too even with the tyres.

Giving these a go, can’t resist at that discount. My mate had a set of XMM that never got any mentions in the usual reviews and they were amazing to use, so hopefully these are similar!

Cheers to the thread starter on this and the other one on front page discussing these, great find.

I have tried it as it sounded great and local shop started selling it.

I found however it leaked constantly out of all tyres I tried, through the side walls. It also lost pressure worse than others I’ve used and when I removed a tyre that it wouldn’t seal, found most of it had formed a ball in the tyre (not a firm clump like with some but was like a clump of jelly). It said it definitely didn’t clump so that was disappointing.

Still running it in my gravel tyres but it’s leaking still after months so they are next on my list to change too.

I wanted to like it as it’s a good idea and local ish product in part, but Stans has a just much better in my experience. (Only ever tried Stans and this).

I’d say the guide sounds about right for your weight, especially if you ran 90 with tubes, I’d want to drop at least 20 by going tubeless on the road.

The last road tubeless I used on 28s I ran at 50/55, at 75kg and never had an issue, but were nice and comfy and didn’t notice any downsides.

    I’d only run 70 with tubes in a 28.

Took mine out yesterday to bed the brakes in and check the set up.

Very happy. Really comfy, felt quick and stable. Not as quick as the Izalco it replaced but that was an out and out race bike, but not far off and way comfier position for me – nice to have room to drop the front rather than build it upwards!

Have a couple of real work pics of it if any use.

I’ve just got a Addict 20 Disc. Test ride/bed brakes in tonight and proper ride planned for Friday.

I looked at a few bikes as wanted something less racy than the Izalco Max I had but not some tank, as the Izalco was really light for a disc bike and had a fancy spec to boost.

For the more relaxed geometry it seemed to me to be well priced for the spec (decent tubeless ready wheels, full 105, full carbon frame set, good gearing, Carbon post, decent looking finishing kit, good quality and wide tyres and still pretty light at 8.5kg). Similar offerings from other well known makes were 2k plus and heavier (Domane, Emonda, Synapse etc). Looks pretty comparable to the Carbon Endurace and not any dearer than stuff from Ribble and the like.

I also like the look of it, which is obviously personal but also important to me.

Anyway I’m well happy with it in the flesh, can let you know how it is once ridden if you like.

Found a few shops with them in stock by using the Scott list of dealers site and scoping their websites. Plenty of grey ones but found a few blue too in 54 and 56.

I just got a bike like this and luckily they had the connectors on the cables at the front of bike.

Watched a GCN video on how to do it and seemed pretty straightforward and think they will be fine without a bleed, but I’ve got the shop to send me the bleed kit anyway.

Was more surprised they delivered it this way tbh, thought the shop should have done it before sending it. Although they clearly didn’t bother setting the shifting up properly either.

One note was the video showed no fluid dripping out of the top connectors when removed but there was definitely fluid leaking when I removed them so had someone on hand to quickly hold them horizontal so no didn’t lose much.

    Good luck.

I had a medium Segment (5’8) and was a good fit, I’d say fit as expected for a 17” frame and would have been fine fo day 5’7 to 5’11.

Great bike and regret selling it and keeping a P7. Should have done the other way round as ended up selling the P7 not long after.

In fact probably only one of two bikes I wish I’d not got rid of.

Seems a big jump up on price from what you can get the Rival one for. You could get another set of wheels!

I have the Tempest with Rival 1, its pretty spot on to be honest, only gripe for me is the hoods where they meet the bars on the underside, feel a bit gappy and baggy but when riding I don’t notice. It’s smooth shifting and the breaks are great, like double tap for the off road (I’d stick Shimano and a double on the road).

Anyway you’ll like it whatever, just been out on mine today and it’s a brilliant bike to ride.

Not sure what the prices have been like lately though as I bought mine last year, but think it was £1199 or £1299 when I got it? Might be worth waiting a bit?

As dovebiker says dicks are dicks whatever. I’ve seen cases of people clearly having people round for afternoon beers in the sun, people working in groups that shouldn’t be, the odd group of bikers that look like mates etc etc.

But in the main people doing what is asked. If they locked it down further it would be the same dicks that just carry on anyway.

Does seem more traffic about last couple of weeks though for sure.

Not enough. £800 I think with diff wheels, I sold those 45s before hand though, it was much better with those wheels on.

I decided to stop road riding but have since bought another carbon Focus Izalco Max Disc after a rethink. It should be a better bike really but the Caad10 did it for me, as good as the Focus is.
