As a ex vehicle tech my advice would be Buy quality, buy once. In all my years I have only ever had one spanner fail due to the chroming starting to peel off and one pair of Linesman pliers fail due to the jaws wearing – both replaced FOC under the lifetime warranty BTW. Respect (By this I mean don’t abuse them) your tools and treat them right and they’ll always be there when you need them through out your cycling journey :-)

Having rebuilt more hydraulic calipers than I care to remember, I have to say that Northwind is correct. You should be able to push the piston back into the housing with fingers alone – the fact you couldnt suggests the seals were sitting proud and were mashed by the piston as you pushed it back. Get a small right angled pick and run it around where the seal sits (Top and bottom if that makes sense) to remove any corrosion and then clean out with brake cleaner, fit new seal and try again :-)

IME/IMO, the trick with Ikea furniture is to take the time to build it properly first time and to reinforce every join/seam with woodglue.

This is the secret – some of our Ikea tat will double up as an Anderson shelter should the need ever arise :-)

Yeah, i did tighten up those pinch bolts

Did you push the little plate that goes between the two bolts down into place before you tightened them? They only need about 14 Nm IIRC.

The lightweight dolly is a blow up one that's neatly packed away in the saddlebag. Always on standby for a bit of solo dogging.

The future Mrs Pixelmix is still resisting my attempts to upgrade her bike, so I'll be hanging fire on a test ride and a Marin for a little while!

Tell her – Resistance is futile!
