2kg without shock doesn’t sound particularly light for a race oriented XC bike. Nevertheless, I’m interested in this, I ride a 2018 Scott Spark with 2 pairs of wheels, 27.5+ and 29er. Both wheelsets are carbon and pretty lightweight, and I just love riding the + wheels. As they say, the 29ers feel faster, but Strava struggles to separate them and I feel so much more confident on the 2.8 tyres.
I’ve got one of these on my gravel bike. Like it a lot, only downside I’ve noticed is it nose diving under heavy braking. This is exacerbated if it’s on rough ground, can be a bit weird.
It may be considered too much extra weight on a normal bike. Also, while top speeds might be the same on an e-bike and normal bike, the e-bike has more mass to stop.
Reminds me of my 1990 701LX. I rode it for years then got it resprayed in Ritchey-alike colours and got some lovely kit for it when my parents gave me some cash for my GCSE results. It was beautiful. Then my brother ‘borrowed’ it when he was late for college and left it unlocked and it got nicked. Still remember the feeling when I found out.
I have a Camino Ti on order, due any day. I am hoping that the quoted weight is garbage – seems really heavy when a Waltly (who I think make the Camino Ti) gravel bike frame is quoted at c. 1.5kg.
In defence of the Spark… this thing has 900g wheels which presumably need a bit of babying. The Spark is pretty robust, no fragile parts – and has a power meter installed.
Perhaps because I’m a skinny sort, I definitely care about bike weight. 14.5kg for a blingy 130mm bike seems an awful lot, do you have a weight for the frame or frame+shock?
So you are commenting on the DW6 link of the 150mm bike, and how much faster that bike was than it felt?
TBH it read like you were saying that about the 130mm bike and had written the name wrong, as they are weird things to be mentioning in a review of the 130mm bike (at least without drawing comparisons with the bike being reviewed).
Agree they are expensive, but $4k for a brand new boutique carbon FS frame (say $3k?), 38 forks, wheels, tyres, groupset, brakes, dropper, saddle, bars, stem, grips, headset, bottom bracket seems a bit light…
