Other nations manage perfectly well with an elected executive president in addition to a two chamber system, so why not the UK? And I see the Goodwin’s Law of a President Blair has popped up. Seeing as he’s about as popular as something you step in on the pavement I don’t think you need worry.

Because they give the final approval to every law passed. I’d like to see an EEHoS with a power of veto or reference back to any laws which should never have reached this stage of nearly being passed but yet have.

And once the HOL is reformed why not have a democratically elected executive Head of State?

There is a greater chance of dying while climbing Mount Everest, but still there is no shortage of people who want to attempt it. This will be no different as it appeals to the same sort of mindset.

Who would have to approve the Bill to democratise the HOL and end their nice little gravy train?…

Os there a way of ‘storing’ those add-ons and extensions you wish to keep so you can re-import them to your newly cleaned system?

You don’t need to get involved or read JHJ’s contributions. Freedom of speech applies equally to the people you don’t like and who say things you’d rather not hear.

It’s not just the money involved. Any legal action will set case law defining what limits there should be on state power in situations such as this.

Also many of we older riders may be alienated by the dog straining for a crap cybercreased fugly monstrousites which pass for frames these days. Having your bike covered in lurid, in your face garish decals may appeal to a certain demographic but it I find it a turn off.

I agree. I woudn’t buy a modern bike; I’m quite happy with what I have.

I’m surprised its taken this long but it was bound to happen. At best stable but often declining incomes, increased costs of living, x**s on the way, a wet and nasty winter forecast… Add to this the ridiculous prices of bikes with their associated components and clothing, the extremely short obsolescence cycles, plus the constantly changing wheel size and component standards and it its an inevitability.

Cycling has disappeared up its own chuff.

But even the public service professional core support of ‘Labour’ who have been the bedrock of the Blair/Brown/Miliband ethos of the party wouldn’t put up with a Lab/Tory coalition. for that reason I think it is a non-starter.

The trade unions funding ‘Labour’ would have something to say about their party getting in bed with the Tories.

Instead you get a patronising oath and a cheap compass. As if teachers weren’t committed to doing the best they can for their pupils, ‘Labour’ think they need to swear an oath to do so. That – ‘Labour’s’ attitude – is the problem here. I can imagine many of their teacher supporters reading this proposal and thinking “WTF?!”.

But ‘Labour’ would have to be elected first and I don’t see that happening at the next election.
