a couple of miles is ok in 'normal clothes' and probably what most Amsterdam cycle commuters do, much further than that and cycle clothing can be a bit more pleasant and practical really – less sweaty, windproof and quick drying.

I'm fairly sure the offset etc was the same as the 440s – so 26" forks

yes actually google cache here http://shrunk.net/9daf1c4a

465mm s*p*rst*r forks crap photo here:

I've got round to building it up but not taken any photos since, rides ok good for blatting round Thetford forest or drudging thru the Cambridgeshire mud/clay.

some normal socket cap bolts rather than button heads would probably help.

except there is – the reaction force generated by braking.

Fair comment – presumably in this case it would try to rotate the wheel backwards, which could loosen the non(?)drive side bolts? maybe some loctite might solve it?

I can't see why the dropouts would move on the 2010 model – it's got 3 bolts and the disc mount is separate – so there's no braking force going thru them, my 2006/2007 p7 with 2 bolts is fine.

I think it was just the 2008(?) model where they had incorporated the disc mount into the dropout that has problems.
I think they added an extra hole to the drop out and used the pannier bolt hole on the frame to stop the problem.

I ran some 465mm carbon forks on my P7 and they were fine.

José Donoso, head of the Spanish Wind Energy Association, recalled that just five years ago critics had claimed the grid could never cope with more than 14% of its supply from wind.

"We think that we can keep growing and go from the present 17GW megawatts to reach 40GW in 2020," he told El País newspaper.

Windfarms have this month outperformed other forms of electricity generation in Spain, beating gas into second place and producing 80% more than the country's nuclear plants.

Experts estimate that by the end of the year, Spain will have provided a quarter of its energy needs with renewables, with wind leading the way, followed by hydroelectric power and solar energy.

There's got to be some hope for wind power – I'd quite happily see a large portion of East Anglia covered in Turbines and it is in my back yard.

Google ignores meta tags, links from other websites with a higher page rank are the most important along with good descriptive text on the pages.
But when in doubt spend some cash on advertising.

I disliked the weeride (sold it after a few weeks on here) – ok for a quick trip but useless for pedalling any distance as the seat gets in the way of your legs/knees (I'm 6ft1" so I guess shorter people may be better off?)

Used a Hamax (Sleepy or Siesta I think) daily from 10 months till about 2.5 years but then brought a Chariot trailer to keep our daughter out of the elements a bit more during the winter and for a more pleasant off-road experience for her!

Rothan is good and has a decent resale value (there were 2 in classifieds last week http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/fs-isla-bikes-rothan )

The infant sling is very good, gives a great deal more isolation from bumps – not that I've taken the little down anything more than bumpy doubletrack – but he's been enjoying it since he was 3 months (very sturdy lad no wobbly neck on this one!)
I've only stopped using it now to take them to nursery as sub zero degrees seem a little bit harsh for a baby…

The hitch works with most bikes disc or V, ok on an alfine too – you may problems with odd dropouts, it won't fit my Orange P7 for instance.

And jfi I brought all of our Chariot kit from biker-boarder.de, free delivery and cheaper than buying from uk.

Beings – if you can get to the end/bottom of your road without falling on your arse I'm sure you'll be fine for the rest of the journey!

**** all snow down here in Cambs currently – just not so nice icy slippy tarmac.

I wore mine today and still got hot enough to take the sleeves off (about 0c puddles still iced over) – I was wearing a merino baselayer as well though.
I've used it on it's own without sleeves when it's been wet and grim but still fairly warm in the autumn before and it works quite well,no problem with smell it's been washed a few times though.
I also slid down a road at a reasonable speed last January with out the material ripping just left black marks which have washed out ok.

    I rate it fairly highly.

For use in a Chariot, none.

I'd second that – it'll just annoy them/give them a sore neck, young ones will fall asleep in seconds and their head will flop about (even more) with a lid on.

ex-smoker here – gave up 7 years ago, it's drug addiction pure and simple and as a user it's very hard to convince yourself of that.
Good luck to anyone who is trying to give up!

Try a specialized XC windie my S/O had similar problems and she hates my charge spoon, got the specialized one and has no problems now.

i travel 5 miles each day and i see at least 5 cyclists traveling on a busy 50 mph limit single carridge way road with no lighting at all at 7 am and 4.30pm !

Well if you can see them they don't really need lights do they ;)

with bike hike you get less than 1/4 of the screen in OS map

Click the 'toggle map size' button to rectify that.

No mud at Thetford currently – more sand than anything else, I'm sure it'll take more than one night of rain before you'll need mud tyres.
Hope we don't get rained on at all though!

Spacing is 0.2mm different from 7 speed to 8 speed by the looks of it
    http://www.sheldonbrown.com/k7.html#spacing
so you should only be out by upto 0.6mm in 1st and 7th gear so sounds do-able.
    No practical experience though!

Thetford's pretty good – best the local area has to offer anyway.
Parking fee can be avoided by parking at Brandon or Brandon Country park and riding in from there.

PJ266 – where do you ride then?

odannyboy – yeah I’m ‘local’ I ride with CamMTB a few times a year – would ride more often but I struggle to get to the meetup point in time.

Knee pain can just be down to seat height, pushing a too harder gear or just not being used to it.

Riding in Cambs can be a bit tame, but there are plenty of entertaining bits hidden away if you know where to look.

For a start do more miles when you get a chance – extend your 2 mile commute to 5 maybe and ride it fairly fast it should only add 15 minutes to your journey.

Go riding with your local group (I guess you mean CamMTB?) – they will wait for you, you’ll be knackered the first few times but you soon get used to it.

im not close to collapsing or anything

    Tsk pedal harder!

Is it the spring on the QR getting in the way of the dropout?
I had this problem with pretty much the same setup as you – and it went away if I took the QR spring off.

In essence how you wash them /dry them is the critical point

And really you’re likely to have a good mix of 60′ washers and air dryers and 90′ washers and tumble dryers so there still is bugger all difference between washable and disposable, and even in their best possible scenario you save the equivalent C02 of driving 600 miles.

The environment agency report in 2005/6 concluded there was bugger all difference environmentally between any of the systems.

Saying that bio-degradable is bad because you have to ‘manufacture’ isn’t the complete story when comparing them against a system that requires washing and drying – unless you’re cleaning them with rocks in your local river ;)

The 550Kg of C02 output for manufacture is equivalent to the manufacture and washing+drying of non-disposables which also I think works out to be similar to driving 4000 miles – so easiest to ditch the motor for a few trips first!

as a ‘middle way’ 200 quid will buy you a years supply of bio-degradable nappies

You can use Garmin roadtrip and import maps from OpenStreetMap – there are various open source tools for doing it or you can use something like http://garmin.na1400.info/routable.php, you can build routes/waypoints etc in Roadtrip.

We called our son Dexter – he was born last Friday and our daughter is called Ursula.

Having the surname Smith made us want something a bit memorable without getting too carried away!
We really struggled with boys names here’s our short list:

    austin
    albert
    alex
    brock
    cornellius
    dexter
    eric
    edgar
    edwin
    marcus
    orson
    ulric
    vincent

We quite liked Tiberius Oberon Smith – but thought it may be a step too far :)
