The latest vans share the same engine as the Ford Transit!

Which is a horrible pathetic engine at best :D

IF it turns out to be the belt driven engine and you get the belt done, do a proper job of it. Get the belt, tensioners and the water pump changed. I see it all the time, people change just the belt and a few thousand miles later the pump or tensioner or idle pulley fall to bits recking the engine.

An old Mondeo with that mileage on it is going to be a money pit IMO.

The important thing is why are they dim ? is the lense filthy inside ? Fitting super bright bulbs to a headlight with a filthy lense scatters the light beam which blinds other drives and fails an MOT

if the lense is clean and its just crap bulbs a HID kit would be a good option only if its a projector headlight though.

Any BMW has pretty trick front suspension, the strut is a basic mac but that’s not the worry, it’s the arms front/rear/ that cost £££ Wheels bearings are a whole hub setup. The E46 has a bottom arm and i can tell you now it’s a total utter c***t to change the damn thing. The thing that puts me off the E46/3 series is the under side is steel and rust (badly) just like every other car so why pay a premium for it.

I currently have a 523 which only manages 20mpg and E60 M5 which is brutal on fuel.

Parts on the 318 are fairly similar but not everything. Discs are smalller etc.

on VW’s some bits are just nuts. The golf/A3 are bad for back calipers seizing and they are £80+ But the brake pipe threads into them and they are a pain to get in/out without replacement. Access to the rear wheel bearing spline bolts can be a hassle without removing lots of other bits. Clutch is a foo*ing nightmare to do on them

Agree with the above. The Toyota 2 litre D4D engine is VERY good although i had to do the water pump on my brothers at 100K as it was leaking badly.

As for not expecting much for £5k…… You can get a E39 M5 for £5k which will wee all over most modern cars in terms of power/spec 400hp and more toys than you can shake a stick at.

I’m a BMW mech, i wouldn’t touch the 318. Piece of junk, made to a price point. Parts for them are expensive and a right pain to fit just about anything.

The Audi/Golf (same under the skin) are very reliable but parts can be a bit pricey.

Wouldn’t even look at a Civic, parts are insane, engine is pathetic and the interiors are dull.

I’ve been away for a few years but today was my first ride back in the Pentlands. Yellowbrick road was a nightmare, mud on the steep climbs made it pretty much impossible to climb. The valley was fine but the climb up to black hill was a total pain, i slipped and bailed out, foot went down into about 2 feet of mud!

Anyone fancy a riding buddy ? I don’t know any other routes through the hills !

I had infinity installed about a month ago.

I previously had 3mb down (at best) and less than 1 up. Very unreliable service, would cut out during storms etc

I now have 57-61mb down and around about 10 up. So far it hasn’t cut out once. I downloaded some things on my PS3 the other night, 1.5 GB in about 30 mins so im very happy!

Going by that ideal the principle of them providing a service has been broken.

You would be amazed at the amount of people who do….

We had an older lady in the other day that drove 20 miles with the tyre completely flat. Destroyed the rim in the process.

Some people really are that thick.

If a tyre has been run flat, be it a runflat tyre or normal tyre it is scrap.

Technically a runflat can be repaired just the same as a normal tyre, however as i mentioned before my company flat out refuse to do so (as do most) because motorists aren’t the most honnest of folk.

You shouldn’t have a runflat repaired at all. My company has a policy about this, absolutely no repairs on a runflat. You can’t tell what damage has been done to the tyre outside of the puncture.

If someone does do it then they can’t care too much about the job, if it fails it’s them that is liable.

FYI, tyre weld etc – once you put that in a tyre you can’t repair it.

You run it whilst it’s flat….. Hence why its called a runflat.

    Get to garage and replace.

Do i HAVE to do this ?

My current setup doesn’t use a phone line, it’s all done via antenna’s.

I have a box on my roof, which has a cable down to my router, i can plug anything into the router and it works.

I’m not in a virgin cable area apparently so it’s BT or BT for me.

How accurate at BT’s speed estimates ? Says up to 48mb will i get close to that ?

    Exactly.

For the tracking to have caused that damage, the wheel would have be sitting at such an angle you would be able to see it. Not to mention the car would be driving like a small moon.

It’s a faulty tyre, simple as.

    Offroading

The tracking being out has nothing to do with the damage to those tyres. The only thing that happens to tyres when the tracking is out is either the inside or outside edge gets worn off first.

Something is up with that tyre, faulty rubber or as mentioned something has come into contact with it and is breaking the rubber up.

Not the garages fault in the slightest, not like they make the tyres.

Specialized shoes are very very good.

The body geometry fit on them is fantastic, you appreciate it when they are on your feet for hours.

    Inners 2009.

Puncture on the long climb up. Fixed the puncture then realized my riding buddy (who was at the top) had the pump. Walked all the way to the top in some carbon shoes (very hard) pumped it up to find the tube was split. Replaced tube with another, rode 3mm’s and picked up a puncture on the other wheel. Fixed that puncture (now out of inner tubes) and rode for a good 5 feet before double puncture front and rear.

Walked all the way back to the car park :x
