An hour ? Bit short is it not.

I generally take nothing but a multi tool.

A threaded bolt is slighty weaker than a partially threaded bolt because the thread cuts into the grain of the metal thus weakening it.

This can be solved by rolling the thread rather than cutting it but im not sure they do that with steel bolts – certainly do on good Titanium bolts but a M6/M8 Ti bolt is going to cost a fair whack at that lenght.

What’s the exact spec you need ?

I make my own shock mounting kits…

That Genius doesnt even have a nice spec for the price.

Err i think you’ve been smoking something to come up with a front mech that rests in the biggest ring when neutral…

All Sram/Shimano front mechs/shifters are intercompatible with one another – they all work in the same basic function.

However Sram are by far superiour to that nasty Shimano stuff

How about reading online how to do it, that way its:

    A: Free
B: You learn how to do it
C: Gets done in a couple of hours right now
D: Make you feel like a smug bugger

Yeah it’s always a joy getting on the Scumrail service for Edin-Glasg with a bike. You can’t do anything though just show up and hope there is space – there are signs saying its reserved for bikes and can only be used if not needed so dont take any crap from people about it

Are you actually not “allowed” to Race along it ? How would they determine your racing ?

Anyone fancy a Race along it ? I reckon i could do it in 4 hours.

There’s too much personal preference and bias towards pedals.

Njee has had no end of issue’s with Look Quartz pedals – mine have been fine so far ive had all three types and now own a set of the Carbon/Ti versions – which have had 200 miles put on them so far without issues. And i love how they clip in/out too.

I tried Eggbeaters and found i couldnt use them – such a small contact patch makes them useless for me. Candies were OK but creaked instantly and wore out after a few months.

Shimano pedals work – no doubt about it but you take the weight penalty. I tried Xpedo Ti/Ti too – and like alot of other pedals they wore out within 6 months and weren’t fixable – so are nice paper weights.

Consider too the Look Quartz CAN Be serviced, like Shimano and Eggbeaters although with them its more of a requirement rather than an option!

Are you guys going to do Edinburgh To Glasgow this time ?

Id be up for that – bring my XC Race bike

Perhaps a Edinburgh-Glasgow thread might be an idea ?

Ask them to get one in. Probably dont keep them in stock as its an unusal size.

Providing this isnt the shop you “brought” it from

KMC chains are the ONLY chains to use. Best chains ever.

Ive done the exact thing, drove from Edinbrugh to Dover, Ferry to Dunkerk then drove from there into some place just over the boarder in Spain.

A couple of things – it took fooking ages. It was incredibly hot in the car (height of summer)and my god the toll roads were expensive through France. They are quick but your looking at alot of money if you plan to use them the whole way, each time i came up to one it was wanting 10-15 Euros off me. When i came back the other way i took the “local” roads and the trip took me 4 days was alot more scenic and didnt pay for tolls.

Im doing it again this summer though – this time i’ll be driving down from Germany but then again it’ll be in a tuned M3 this time

Beagleboy – i try (weather allowing) to ride 6 days a week – doing the same routes etc can get a bit dull at times so its nice to have some music.

Similar results myself – JRA wheel milk would dry out within a week in my tyres – Stans is lasting longer still liquidy inside after two months. Its more expensive but lasts longer so cheaper in the long run.

“14.5 stone not too fussed about saving a few grammes.”

Why not ? A lighter bike is better to ride. Some cranks are alot lighter – for example XTR cranks are some 100 grams lighter than XT – which in itself isn’t a huge saving but do that all over the bike and it adds up.

Take it too another level, THM Clavicula cranks which i doubt most people on this forum are even aware about are some 200 grams lighter than XTR. It may be a “small” saving – but it adds up.

Im wearing some Fox High Freq shorts – but the top pocket doesnt have a zip and the two pockets that do have zips are across the knees so it’s not practical to put it in there. Jersey top on has one pocket as mentioned :(

Dry 1 hour race – Schwalbe Furious Fred or racing ralph. Bear in mind the new rocket ron is inbetween these two by weight but is about as grippy as a nobby nic.

1mm should work – the freehub spacers you get from Chris King in 1mm fit too…

Agree with the 68mm BB and 2 spacers issue – it’s a poor solution and as Brant said you should put a spacer on the axel between the bearing and crank arm.

Looked at them myself some months back for my new XC wheels.

They are slightly stiffer if tensioned to the required level – which is too high for the Stans rims. There only about 5 grams lighter per 32 spokes but around £150 extra.

Not worth it – spend the extra money on lighter hubs or rims.

There about £14 IIRC to buy new.

I removed mine – just got some electrical tape covering the hole it left to prevent dirt ingress.

Mark it up as “warranty replacement”

Ive had hundreds of packages marked like this – some worth $1000 and they have come through without charges.

Tress is ok – but it’s success has been it’s downfall – far to busy, too many arseholes around the place – ive had a similar experience in the past.

Not been back for two years and i dont miss it either.

Hmm £800 on some cranks, £2k for a frame only, £200 for some rotors, £100 on two tyres the list goes on a long way to be honest.

you’ll get them seated with a pump or compressor etc but they will leak air. No fuss though as once there seated just put the sealent in via the valve.

well first thing – have you got the clamp tight enough ?

Secondly to stop slippage i use some Tacx Friction Paste – also available from Pace. It’s a paste you apply to the seatpost and when clamped it increases grip so parts dont slip etc. Very good stuff.

Why do people keep buying Fox Forks ?

It’s known they wear out quickly – for the price it’s unacceptable.

Trail Full sussers are that weight if you’ve got money 27lb is good whilst retaining “trail” ride strenght etc.

Personally my XC Race bike Full suss with Sram XO/Sram Red etc carbon, alloy frame, SIDS etc is 9.8kg or 21.8lbs
