    Will keep my eyes peeled.

I live in Thornhill, so very close to home..

I removed the decals from my trusty Maxlight the other week. I found removing the decals themselves are simple with a hairdryer…. its the glue underneath that caused a few issues. However…the solution? T-cut – worked an absolute dream, and theres no trace of them being on there now!

I use Runkeeper. I started using it when I began running – but it tracks everything I need when used in cycling mode too – (distance, maps your route, average speed, feet climbed, etc).

Plus if you connect it to your Twitter, it automatically enters you into the WorldRankins

Depends who was driving – maybe if it was a little old lady she would get my sympathy vote..

I swear by my Schwable Hurricane’s – been using them for the past year commuting, and they handle non-bog-ridden trails quite well. EVEN took them mud plugging last week, and they handled it better than I expected! Pumped up to 60psi, they roll really well, and remain comfy too :-)

Am just about to buy a brand new set to replace the ones I’ve worn down!

You might have to upgrade your wheels. It is unusual for bikes to come with v brakes and then have disc ready hubs. Some did but not loads. Do you have disc ready hubs?

Yeah, I built the bike up myself all those years ago with the view of putting discs on it…but put it off, then my bike took a 10 year holiday to the Shed. So wheels have Deore disc ready hubs, and the frame has the mount too.

With regards to the C2W scheme, I would go down that route, but my employer has been stingy and set their budget at £500 (they are worried the WHOLE company will want a bike at the same time I think… clearly not going to happen) – and if I’m going to buy an entire new bike, I would like it to be a pretty big step up (would probably go down the 0% finance route).

Cheers for the advice thomthumb :-)

With regards to the wheels – I’ll just keep my current wheels for now, and when financial circumstances permit, will have a look for a new set (possibly fleabay..).

Why do you feel the need to upgrade?

Basically because I recently replaced my front V brake from XT (which was pretty decent for a V brake) to Deore, and that just doesnt cut it when clogged up with mud etc. Plus i’m sick of the rim wearing down too. I definitely don’t want to upgrade anything just because “the new version is shiny and pretty” – will be strictly “as necessary”.

    Also, thanks topgunsteve..

I’m sure someone else will contradict this

Lets hope they do, or that would be the perfect business case for a new bike..

I had an epic fail on my commute home yesterday. STUPIDLY jumped up a kerb OUT of the cycle path to move out of the way of a mother and child…back wheel decided it didnt want to follow…next thing I know Im sliding down the path with the bike on top of me.

In all fairness, the woman did briefly turn around..then carry on walking without any concern in the world (I was fine…but it wouldnt have hurt to ask!). Sadly broke my rear V brake in the process somehow, but that’s no bad thing when I’m just considering ordering some XT discs.. :D

Went out on Saturday around the South Wales bogs with some very worn Shwable Hurricane’s…. they all laughed at me initially, but made it up all the climbs and back down again in one piece!

Was a definite skill tester/booster I will admit – so now on the hunt for some nobblies :-)

yeah a slidey tyre on back can be great fun. front, not so much.

10 miles each way, every day. 50% road, 50% Taff trail through Cardiff. Can do the journey quicker on the bike than I can in the car (and yes I stop at red lights!) :D

I’m keen to see the responses to this – I’m in the market for one around the same sort of money for some training and to complete a Edinburgh to London charity ride next year :-)

    Probably a noob/stupid question, but do the MT500’s have cut-out for SPD’s?

I know what you mean but the problem is that a lot of us have seen the same question or subject twice a week for 6 years…

    Good point…

Is this Aldi stuff any good? I plan on kitting myself out for a whole winters commuting…but was wondering what everyone else’s experience of the Aldi stuff was like? :)

So has anyone else had any experience with the c&b seen front lights? They seem really good value, and like the OP, I really can’t justify over £50 for some lights!
